- Should you keep your cervix if you're having a hysterectomy? ✂️
If you're debating whether to have a partial or total hysterectomy, there are some pros and cons to consider.
Ask your gynecologist questions so that you are fully informed and aware prior to surgery. Managing expectations is the best way to get maximum benefit from any surgical procedure.
If you're looking for a gynecologist and surgeon in Chicago's south suburbs, come and see me! You can book at www.dardurmedical.com or call/text 708-340-1167 to schedule an appointment.

Thanks for your information! The surgeon did not tell me that I would still have a period after my partial hysterectomy. The last two months I noticed when I ovulate I spot but then I get a big burst of blood, which is similar to when I had my light days when I had my uterus. I am not happy about this, and I am going to find a way, hopefully non-surgically, that I can regulate my hormones to reduce the ovulation and period. SMH. I am 45 years old, soon to be 46 and over it. I am going to follow up with a urogynocologist to see what my options are. I also gained 15 pounds. :/
Oh no! I am sorry to hear that. It can be disappointing to still have periods after a hysterectomy. There are certainly non surgical options that can stop your periods. If you are in the Chicago land area, I'd be happy to see you.
@@DardurGynecology Thanks for responding. I live in the Washington DC area but would visit you if I was in the Chi! :)
@KeyahD You are welcome!
Looking forward to it
Here's some basic science. You gained 15 lbs because you ate in a caloric surplus, not because your uterus was removed. Also because your uterus no longer exists you shouldn't be bleeding. Sue that God damn doctor.
What are the non surgical ways that would stop your period?@@DardurGynecology
With sever pain and bleeding during period and failure of merina ( 3 times expelled with the first period after insertion) researching hysterectomy options. Trying to figure it out keeping the cervix is ideal in my case... any thoughts plz
I'm so sorry you're going through that. Keeping the cervix depends on you and your doctor though. If there is any history of abnormal pap smears, then the cervix should be removed.
This was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Should the cervix be removed for adenomyosis? Thanks
If there is Adenomyosis, in my opinion there is endometriosis and everything should be removed in order to achieve pain resolution. But it also depends on the surgeon's discretion. If there are no signs of endometriosis during surgery, then a partial hysterectomy can be considered. But for endometriosis/Adenomysis, Total Hysterectomy is recommended.
@DardurGynecology thanks
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
This is good information. I had a partial hysterectomy during the spring of 2023. Although I feel much better, I’m not happy about gaining 15 pounds.
Thank you Latrice. Without knowing your full medical history, I cannot fully comment on the weight gain. But I'll say this: the weight gain may not be due to the hysterectomy, that usually only happens if your ovaries were also removed. The uterus is just a house for your periods and babies, it does not affect any other systemic part of your body.
@@DardurGynecology thank you so much for responding. I'm going to get lab work next week so that my doctor can see what's going on with me. I'll keep you posted,as my outcomes might help someone else that has a similar concern.
Thank you Patrice
I gained weight too. It's probably hormone related, but I am no expert lol
Yall actually fuckin dumb. You fucking ate a caloric surplus. It's that simple. Count your damn calories if you wanna lose it and eat in a Deficit. That is basic nutrition.
I wiil be calling you monday
Sounds good!
I have been diagnosed with endometriosis, and I was thinking after the hysterectomy, will be able a normal sexual active life?
I recommend discussing this with your surgeon. Was everything removed? Including the ovaries? You may suffer from menopause related vaginal and hormonal issues if the ovaries were removed which usually makes sex much more difficult. So you may need hormone replacement. It all depends on what was done during your surgery.
I had a UFE due to fibroids. And should’ve had a hysterectomy. Sighs.
UFE does help to reduce bleeding in most women. What was your outcome with this procedure?
@@DardurGynecology it hurt like hell. Still bleeding heavy. It a little better than before. But heavier than normal. I’m now Sterile.. the list goes on and on. Threw me right into Perimenopause so I’m told. But I still bleed heavily. And cramp like crazy.
@@refinedrubies1267would love to learn more as I'm considering this and uterine ablation. I'm terrified of a partial hysterectomy
never geta hysterectomy the side effects are terrible
Good morning. Can you share your take on the negatives? I am scheduled for a consultation in 2 weeks.
Depends on which kind of hysterectomy you get. Remember, hysterectomy does not always include removal of the ovaries.
I cancelled a unnecessary full hysterectomy last year, after some research I decided to shrink my 11cm fibroid myself. One of the best decisions I made.
@@Shay3356hi how did u do that?❤

In between you can have water of course, nuts and fruit.
