  • Why My Patient Chose a Partial Hysterectomy Instead of Total Hysterectomy
As a gynecologist, I meet a lot of women who worry about getting a hysterectomy because they don't want to go through the transition.
I always counsel my patients that hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus, and not necessarily the ovaries. Removing the uterus does not put you in menopause. The uterus is just a house for your babies and your period.
Removing the ovaries is what puts you in menopause and if they are normal, there is no reason to remove them. Partial hysterectomy is removing the body of the uterus and leaving the cervix behind while total hysterectomy is removing both the uterus and cervix. We're not talking about the ovaries at all in this scenario. In this video, I explore the reason my patient chose a partial vs a total hysterectomy.
If you are suffering from heavy periods, fibroids, endometriosis and you are done with childbearing, you may be considering a hysterectomy. Let's discuss which option is right for you, whether partial or total.

I just left a consultation with the doctor. I told her I want a partial Hysterectomy. , but she told me that the Cervix and uterus is getting out, but not my ovaries. I want to keep my ovaries and cervix. Any suggestions please? 😞
