Thank you so much for this calming, helpful and friendly video. Everybody is frightened by surgery so any words of good advice delivered with that easy warmth you have is of great value. Thank you. The pillow-seatbelt tip is a good one-- I second it! The greatest horror is when bladder or bowels go wrong post-surgery, so anything to do with making sure they are working as normal after surgery is paramount. That's my tip. Prepare and get on the case as soon as you notice something is wrong. The more time you let pass with the abnormality left ignored in the hope it will just 'suddenly get better', the more significant the pain will end up being. Hop on it! Also, thanks for the Parsley Tea tip. I kept envisioning the video of Coco Peru on a serious quest for 'Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer' tea. LOL :D Oooh, one quick question: how long after your first or more serious laparoscopic surgery did you feel you could go back to work that would involve physical labour? I know it's different for each person, which is why I'm asking individuals directly for their personal estimation. Thanks Miranda! Hope you're doing really well. And lastly, gorgeous dress!
Thank you so so much for this video! I'm going in for not only my first lap surgery but my first ever surgery in 2 days so I've been feeling really anxious. I feel way more prepared now 💜
Great advise. I had to stop at M&S to buy soup on my way home as my mouth was dry all day! I'd recommended disposable or washable slippers. You might pick up bugs on the foor the hospital and you don't want to be trapesing it around your house when you get home. Also some throat losengers in case you have a sore throat from the tube. Something with local anaesthetic. Charcoal tablets massively help to relieve gas afterwards.
This is just the video I was needing to watch! Thanks for this video! :D I'm having a Laparoscopic Femoral Hernia Repair done in 5 days time, so it was quite handy to hear what to expect with a Laparoscopy! I've never been put under before or had surgery for that matter, so I've been worrying myself silly leading up to it. But this video has definitely eased my mind! Take care and be well :)
Thank you so much, this has really helped! I’m going on for a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy on 7th August for a potential endo diagnosis and even though I’ve had a lap before it was SO many years ago and I can’t quite remember what it was like. By the way, your dress is AMAZING.
Thanks so much for this, I have my first endo laparoscopy (second in my life but first was for something else as a child - bad memories!) in two days, and this has really helped me sift through some of the more practical anxieties about it.
I have extreme bladder contractions and very slow to recover from anasthetic so I'm extremely dizzy and my legs are like jelly and very confused can't get myself to the toilet , the nurses arnt very nice and I can't count how many times I had to try and attempt this by myself and would fall over and just pee on my self and be left there like that for like half hour , I'm actually really sad that I have to have another surgery because I am so scared of the extreme pain and being neglected again 😞
You would wonder why they want to “care” for people yet don’t actually care about them at all 🤦🏻♀️ it’s sad. Sorry you had to experience that it must have been horrible.
Hi, this is really good, thank you for the advice, I am going in for mine tomorrow 🤗 which I happened to be searching in you tube and there you go, I found these very helpful tips..👍for you. God bless.x
Lol I’m from the Caribbean but living in United States and I know some of the things you said Americans have no idea what you mean… I’m from Antigua so I know that theater is the room where you have surgery but here it’s called O.R or operating room lol and we say nightie as well.
@Allison C. no water bottle… sticky socks yes and yes I was rolled into surgery… they even sent me a wheel chair from the emergency room lobby… I had to use the ER entrance because my surgery was on a sunday
Such a great video, I’m going in for my lap on the 2nd. Where did you buy your tea from? I’ve searched everywhere and kind find any. I live in the Uk ☺️
thank you so much for these useful videos! How comes you stayed overnight if you dont mind me asking ? I have my endometriosis laparoscopy coming up in a few days and the letter states I will be in the day stay unit so im abit confused .
Hello, thank you so much for watching! It varies for everyone so in my case, my surgery ended up being quite major and extended due to the extent of my endo. Probably best to pack for an overnight stay, just in case! Hope that helps xxx

Hey Miranda I had a larascopic appendectomy!about 6 months ago and my stomach is still bloated . At first I thought it was scar tissue but when I saw my surgeon post op he said it was gas. When I first came out after surgery my stomach was extremely swollen. It has gone down some since then but it is still very noticeable and uncomfortable. Long story short lol how long did take you to get the gas out of your stomach that they use in the survey to be able to see better.? And do you have any other tips to go with the peppermint? Thank you for doing this video more people need to be brave enough to do post op cause hospital don’t do the best with post op instructions and how to go about it in my opinion.
Omg im due laparoscopy surgery on Aug 5. Is it overnight? I thought that i can go home on the same day 😔. Thank you for this. How long did it take you to recover from the first laparoscopy surgery?
For every surgery where you will be completely out they put a catheter but in most cases you won't actually know about it as they place it and remove it while your unconscious. That's most likely why they didn't explain it as it only creates anxiety. They also intubate you (after you already are askeep) so you can breath while unconscious and that is what causes throat pain.

Call your nurse's doctor. A laparoscopic is an outpatient procedure in the United States.
