I was on the fence between these two. Thank you for your review. Update: I just purchased the X. Against my better judgment.😅 I fell in love with the front windshield, self opening doors and love the falcon doors. I’ll be broke but will have a smile every time someone asks to see it. I love making people happy and even take strangers for a ride.
Don't fall in love with the windshield, you will be disappointed lol They break very easily as I have seen and been told at the glass repair place. I only had my Tesla for less than a month a truck cracked it all the way across with a rock. Every 2 weeks I get a new chip or break from rocks as it is my commute vehicle.
I know ppl are talking about affordability vs luxury. But for families with multiple kids, the kids trump all of that. I would choose the X simply bc it’s more family and passenger friendly. There’s no price to that. As long as you can afford it, of course.
The Model Y is probably the best all around bang for the buck, but I'm still hung up on the Model X. It's larger, roomier, smoother, and those doors just make it special. You see Model 3s and Model Ys everywhere nowadays, but not many Xs, so it would be nice to have something a little less common. I'm currently considering an older used one, since the new ones are so expensive. I love the reworked interior on the '22 models and up, but, again, they're pricey. The pre-Raven and Raven models are becoming more affordable, and most don't have too many miles on them.
My wife and I bought a used 2016 model X with 90,000 Mi on it. $25k OTD what the federal tax credit applied. Sure there will be some range degradation and we were both prepared for that but this suv is more for running around town. So far my wife absolutely loves the model X as it's her primary car. No suspension or steering issues so far. The gentleman who had it before us took meticulous care of the model X. The seats look brand new as does the rest of the vehicle. We're only going to keep this vehicle for 2 years and depending on how it treats us I will buy my wife a new one in 2026 when I retire.
So glad you posted this. I'm considering buying a used model x and I was nervous about buying a 2016 or 2017. Which version did you buy (plaid/90d) and how many miles to a full range
Had a Tesla service mechanic tell me the X has suspension issues that are numerous and expensive - up to ten grand in some cases. He said between the two (which I asked him about) go for the Y
Winter 2023 in my 2019 Model X. Great video, it’s nice to hear peoples experience. I purchased my X used in 2022 it’s been a year. I love it! No issues. I’m a cruiser no kids, I came from a 2020 5 series BMW I could not step into a minimalist interior. I had to have a more luxury car. Wanted the MS but, had been longing for an SUV to hall my camera gear around. The 7 seater with seats folded down was key in most room offered. I needed the instrument cluster, and I needed a more normal front end. The model Y and 3 front end don’t do it for me. I’m about looks, and luxury. Yes we have a market for that. In my opinion the model X and S are more luxury. I don’t mind giving up miles, as I just commute around town and I have plenty for that. I’m not traveling cross country everyday. The smarter decision would have been new y if I wanted more efficiency, and warranty. I chose to spoil my self and not give up on what I found more appealing. I’m not regretting it at all. Yes, the falcon doors are embarrassing at times, but at the same time makes you feel like you have the ultimate exotic ride on the block especially with the 22’S on it. :)
Nice comparo. I have did the same comparisons back in 2020 when I got my new Model 3 LR. I spent about a month going back and forth between 2020 Model 3 LR versus a 2016 Model S 100D at the time. The warranty and the charging speed were my deciding factors, when I found a similar price (with 45,000 miles) of around $53k all in. I think if I could have been able to get an extended warranty at the time plus a power sunroof, I would have gone with the S. Love my 3, but definitely looking to add a Model Y soon. I remembered, Kobra told me!
So you specifically talk about using it as a 7-seater… …but then you don’t show storage space with both 3rd rows up. THAT was what I was looking for! You don’t buy the X if you don’t need the extra seats, so the question of storage for these is so relevant!
THANK YOU for measuring the trunk depth. I bought a Mercedes GLE 53 AMG and the damn trunk can’t fit a full size suit case long ways. Absolutely drives me bonkers.
Idk about that, I’d say a new Model Y Long Range is comparable to a used Model X Long Range, and a new Model Y Performance is comparable to a used Model X Performance
I’m still torn lol… looking at 2020 X for same price as new Model Y I think I like the X better , but scared of reliability and repair costs on all the tech… thoughts ??
Well unless you have allot of money for the Model X, The model Y is the best choice. I have the 2023 model Y LR and enjoy all the features it provides. Yes, the model Y is also somewhat costly, but nothing like how much you would spend for a Model X, I don't care how much better features it has. I don't need the fancy batwings because I am single and the rear seats would never get used by anyone. So what is the point in having them. It would be nice if the model Y had the 2nd Display behind the steering wheel. I know I could buy 3rd party HUDs, but why don't they make that standard in the model Y. Automatic doors are nice, but not really necessary for me. That is why you are paying the big bucks for the Model X is all the fancy stuff. Just my opinion.
This is a very easy decision. Don’t buy any POS EVs and especially Tesla. I’m not campaigning out at public charging stations and having to worry about degradation and range depletion in extreme temperatures and highway speeds. Donate them both to Goodwill.
What's your problem? A car that can spank a V8 muscle car while simultaneously getting >100 mpge is pretty cool. Instant seamless torque is addicting, one-pedal driving is awesome, esp. in the mountains, and being so quiet means I can actually enjoy the performance on the regular without attracting police attention. And charging up at home for $10 makes it a no-brainer. But you go ahead and keep spending a whole car payment on gas.

I love my Model X 100D, Falcon Doors, comfort, the range is good and its plenty fast, 22wheels, Blk exterior and White Interior

I'm on my second Y, and after a trip to vegas with 5 growing kids, I'm done. Just ordered an X.

Is this for the "legacy" version or the updated Raven? It's my understanding that with the Raven update they also re-designed the suspension.
We own a 2016 and knocking on wood we've had zero issues.

I went with luxury & the smoother ride for long roadtrips across America and Canada. YOLO
Thanks for a great comparison video bro!
Thanks for mentioning the warranty but I would probably go for the driving experience. Actually, thanks for covering both.
It’s a tough decision. But, the ride is real nice on the X.

Yes! Thanks for sharing. It’s a tough decision. Sometimes I get older flagship phones at a discounted price instead of a brand new one.
Great video!! With having kids that obviously will not stay small the X is the better option. Thank you for making this video.
Kobra's got you COVERED on the Tesla Front.

I prefer the wood grain interior of the model X. It looks really good

I must know where you got the yoke installed? I want a white one also and not sure if I need to remove the battery.
Brother you just sold me into getting a used model X with that closing doors. LOL
Most helpful & interesting - Very clearly explained - I learnt a lot.
Many thanks......All the way from London !
Thanks so much

What about battery life, used? How long do they actually last before being replaced ?
A better comparision would be a model Y performance vs a used Model X
I don’t have that
Idk about that, I’d say a new Model Y Long Range is comparable to a used Model X Long Range, and a new Model Y Performance is comparable to a used Model X Performance
Great vid. I have a ‘21 Model 3 SR and I’m Thinking of upgrading to a bigger Tesla. With the drop in prices I may just pull the trigger on a new Y.
Thanks! Great decision
I have 2023 Model Y Performance black on Black. I love mine
I'm so glad you made this video! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent review many thanks
Great video bro!
What up my ninja. Killed it 🥷
Thank you for the honest review
What about the handling/cornering - is it a lot more fun on a new Model Y (performance) vs a 2020 Model X (performance)?
Great job. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!

It really just depends what you get, older X's are around 40k in a lot of places... but the newer you get like the plaid the prices go way higher
Thanks. I am literally in this exact situation right now. Love my 3 so getting suv for the wife
Great video 👍🏻
Great Video. Helped me a lot
poor people Y, rich people X. Got it
Thanks man!
Let me find out cobra 🐍 went for the storm shadow white interior for the model Y lol excellent video.
