You know how there are no other CBs with international experience? Because Southgate just keeps picking Maguire! How can you get caps if the same players get picked regardless of form or performance. England have a friendly and an easy competitive game, pick 2 of the younger CBs and give them both games to play.

I'm old enough the remember Martinez getting injured at the end of last season, Maguire comes back in and their season almost imploded.

Maguire's never played badly for England is something these pundits constantly repeat - You don't even have to go that far back to Hungary, yes Hungary scoring 4 times in England with Maguire being their man of the match, never mind Germany recently.

Man Utd conceded 57 goals in 2021/22 vs 43 in 2022/23. Defense definitely improved since Maguire was dropped. Also 2022/23 de Gea won most clean sheets.

So in the first season without Maguire, there was a 57 to 43 season on season improvement, and Utd matched best defensive season with Harry Maguire.
Utd are far from the finished article, but Maguire has not done well overall in his time there.

Maguire was making defensive errors week in week out leading to goal scoring opportunities. These english pundits speak like maguire is on the bench because of something else.

Englands results are exactly what they should be. England is not a country that should be winning world cups. Semis, quarters, finals-Southgate has done very well tbh. Losing to France was objectively fair, we are not as good as that French team but we probably top 5 in the world. Southgate should have gone a couple of years ago. Had home advantage in the Euros & did nothing when Italy got on top, only made changes when it was to late. World cup similar, he's taken us as far as he can. He also said when first appointed he would pick players on form, Maguire, Phillips etc. His mentality first is defensive & rather lose a tournament when going for it than meekly losing due to safety first rather than going for it..

How can they gain experience playing for England, if they have Maguire starting in-front of them every time without merit.

There's a reason why so many players are lacking experience in the England national team, and that Gareth wilfully omitting certain players over others. You would have had plenty of experience at cb if you'd just given players a chance instead of always opting for the lack of playing for his club Harry Maguire amongst many others, but none so grand has Harry himself.
Ben White should be in the squad all day, his reliable, versatile and quality where ever he plays.

United had the most clean sheets in the league last season, and despite being poor this season, can add another to that. He started 16 matches in all competitions last season, with a further 15 cameo subs appearances where he wasn't injured during the campaign.
Throwing in International breaks 3 weeks into a new season is ridiculous. Really winds me up. Takes all the momentum out of the new season, when, lets face it.... no one wants it.
More football being crammed in means more players getting burnt out injured and eventually retiring due to injuries or loss of interest in the game. Thanks fifa, uefa and to an extent the English fa.
