Players that are higher up on the skill hierarchy should be given time to prove their ability on the pitch but NOONE gets to behave like they are better than the others in training if you want a successful team. So, how many welders, HGV lorry drivers, brick layers or office workers do you know who's reputation and success is watched and judged directly by umpteen thousands / millions of people every week? If that were the case then maybe they'd be on "hundreds o thousands of pounds per week" too.

@rosscleary9110 Because I'm entitled to make a point about footballers paying £160 quid a year to be in a union despite earning way more than your average Joe, yet your average Joe pays a sum total more than that to be in a union. That has nothing to do with skills, it's purely another example of greed. Your league 2 players SHOULD be paying tiny sums, as we mentioned, it's based on salary % for anyone else. The players then have to accept that income will drop, so wages available will drop.

As someone who has studied Mathematics and Statistics, I will defend the survey with no solution boxes being provided. Attitude surveys can't have open-ended questions, you can't perform analysis when every answer is completely different. The idea of attitude surveys is to identify trends of the opinions within the group, so possible areas to focus on improving can be identified. The issue lies with the report, once the survey data was collected and analyzed, the people behind the report should research possible suggestions for improvement then pass those solutions onto organisations with the ability to implement any usable suggestions. The people in the PFA who just offer percentages based on data and do nothing else with it, not even an acceptable statistical test, are the ones wasting the effort.

Brain surgeons or lawyers are often required to work up to 70 hours in a week. That takes a huge toll on your health and even more importantly your family/social life. The thing is though they get paid enourmous amounts to compensate for those sacrifices much like footballers although footballers have it infinitely easier comparatively. I think most top footballers grow up in academy’s and go straight into it professionally so they have no idea what work is like for normal people.

Every player wants and should be able to play every game? If that's the case Martin, why do you need a squad of 25 players? The reality if you have a squad of that size, is that you rotate to enable each team to play the number of games that the current schedule requires. And it's about the money, the schedule dictates the amount of money that is available and that means the players get paid the ridiculous amounts they do - you cannot have it both ways mate

Most people commenting on here don't understand the physical and mental requirements of top athletes to perform at their best 2 or 3 times a week, week in week out. "But they get paid loads of money so they should", is puerile and uneducated thinking.
Supporters expect 100% effort and success every game from players who need to be 100% ready both physically and mentally. When that's the criteria all the money in the world can't magically guarantee that.

@@AlexLee360 If you actually knew what a brain was you'd understand that the players from that era, with a few exceptions, were bang average journeymen. You said as much when mentioning the bad tackles! Compared to the players of today they were cart horses by and large. Yet here's the thing, compared to the average worker of the same era they were in fact paid extremely well.
To answer your question then, they managed very well. The price paid was poor quality games week after week. Unless you're part of the crowd that reckoned middle aged guys kicking lumps out of each other on a Saturday was elite sportsmanship?

@@AlexLee360 Yes, I've been a supporter since well before the PL. I've seen the massive improvements in both facilities and player quality. I've been a season ticket holder and watched hundreds of matches over the years both live and on tv. I have two close relations who play professionally. So I can state from experience that today's game is 100% better than the olden days you seem to yearn for.
With that improvement has come massive pressure to perform consistently and successfully.
Not only could the dinosaurs of yesteryear not match the players of today on the pitch, (with as I've already said, "a few exceptions), there's no way they could handle the physical and mental pressures of the current top flight players.
But you stick with your fantasy's of "when men were men" and envy of those so much more successful than you'll ever be.
