Great info, appreciate all the comparisons. I just received the RODE Wireless Pros and am looking forward to testing them out. The magnet doesn't stick the receiver to the back of my iPhone as well as I'd hoped but I'm liking them!
My only reservation revolves around that usb c port with all these peripherals. If i'm recording Pro audio im also shooting in prores and need to use an SSD. I know you can use a hub but the power draw on that is so great that it limits your ability to shoot for very long at all
I haven’t done any long runtime shoots with that setup, but I’m sure that’s true. Although adding a battery could help the situation. But TBH for me while I like the SSD option, I have a 1TB phone and so more times than not I’m not using an SSD. But I use external mics all the time.
I appreciate your work. The message about putting effort and resources into quality audio cannot be said enough. I've been a church AV tech, now team lead, for 25 years, and often get the work product of others sent to me - "I'll send you a video". I started keeping some gear around to educate and to help folks improve the end result. I rarely have them use wireless, as it brings a level of complexity and therefore risk of error, but a Shure MV88 for the Lightning phone folks or a Shure MKE200 for the adapter to TRRS folks goes a long way. Along with educating folks to find a friendlier space than some echo prone church basement fellowship hall. And to use the furry wind protectors not the foam ones. Little things matter.
When I connect an iPhone 16 Pro Max to my Rode Wireless Go ll with a USB-C to USB-C cable and hit record and listen to the playback on the iPhone, it sounds great. But, when I transfer the recorded clip and playback on the computer, the volume is very low. I don't know if it's an IOS 18 issue, RODE problem or what?
I have the same setup & just wondering when using the 32bit float internal recording on the Rode Wireless Pro, how do you take advantage of the Timecode? have you ever tried using the Timecode feature in Filmic Pro together with the Wireless Pro to then sync in Resolve? If yes, could you give me your step by step process on how you do it or you just clap & Auto sync based on waveform? thanks.
The Lav 2 with the wireless pro makes the voice sound best but it has these slight popping/clipping sounds and it picks up more ambient noise, it seems. I've had the wireless pro for 2 weeks and I don't know how to stop those popping noises, which usually come up a minute after I hit record, and I am using the included pop-filter, even indoors.
Sounds like a connection issue? Unless you’re talking about plosives. Or potentially the mic is rustling. You might see if the internal recording of the mic sounds the same as the signal you’re getting to your camera.
@@iphoneographers thank you for taking the time and replying! I'll check the recorded audio via Rode central and see if those crackling sounds (not plosives) are there as well, to excluded a connectivity issue. I believe I read a similar comment on another Rode pro video (not one of yours), so might be a recurring issue. Thank you and have a lovely weekend!
Blake. One thing. You know you plugged the lapel mic into the transmitter, why do this if the transmitter is already a lapel mic? Is the Rode Lav II better quality than the transmitter mic? What is the point?
Hi , I have a quick question , I want to record video on my ipad , but also want to use two XLR or USB mics for the audio input for my video . How can I set this up?
I haven’t actually tested the DJI although I know many who have, but I’ve been in the RODE ecosystem so long I’ve just stuck with them and I really like the setup, especially for iPhones.
You mean the wired lav mic connected to the transmitter versus the transmitter alone with its built-in mic? One thing to remember is there was no post-processing on this at all. So you’re hearing the raw audio right out of the camera. Normally I would EQ it, denoise an often add compression. But yes, the lav mic is a higher quality mic than just the transmitter alone.
First of all thank you for this video. I have one question: I use the Rode Wireless ME and until know connected it via the USB-C-Adapter from Apple and the TRRS-TRS-Cable from Rode. This way, I have gain control. I tried the usb-c-cable today as you show in your video - but the Blackmagic App doesn't show the audio gain control - even then I switch off auto gain in the Rode-App. I allways have some trouble while recording on a trip with my audio level that I have to correct in post. Should I use the USB-C-Cable connection to solve this or what is the advantage of using the USB-C-Cable instead of the TRRS-TRS-Cable? Thanks
Using the USB-C probably makes the most sense with the other mics that record 32 bit since you don’t have to worry about the levels. I’m not sure why the Blackmagic gain adjustment goes away though, it doesn’t in other apps I’ve used. But I would definitely suggest with those ME mics to use their GainAssist feature regardless, and then probably just with the adapter so you can control the gain in the app. Thanks for watching!
My iphone 15 pro max wont record with the mics, i have the usbc plugged in, the rx and tx are connected, on and recording, but my audio goes to the default iphone audio. Do i need to do something on my iphone?
This answered literally everything I needed to know about this product! Thank you so much!
WOW. I'm totally blown away by everything an iPhone can do and this is a GREAT tutorial. Thanks!!
Very good video as usual showing the different options available
Top useful info
Thanks for the video, Blake. As usual, a very good information video. Have a nice day.

Awesome breakdown 🙌
Very helpful... Thank you for posting Blake.
rode wireless pro with Lavilier plugged into transmitter is the best audio experience,it is very professional way.
Super helpful - thank you!

I would now personally say, DJI Mic 2 now has the advantage when filming on iPhone. The firmware update is 🔥
Good to know. Haven’t seen it yet.

does it work on live streaming ?
For sure

Yes, the lav mic is higher quality than the transmitter mic, and it’s just a neater setup, especially if you’re on camera and/or want to hide the mic.
How can I record with the rode pro mic with external ssd 😮and possibly keep the phone charged 😅
Using a USB-C hub you can have one port going to a battery.
Hi , I have a quick question , I want to record video on my ipad , but also want to use two XLR or USB mics for the audio input for my video . How can I set this up?
You need a USB-C audio interface like the Scarlett 2i2 or similar… amzn.to/3YahM6G
Blake, do you prefer the Rode wireless pro or the DJI wireless mic 2?
I haven’t actually tested the DJI although I know many who have, but I’ve been in the RODE ecosystem so long I’ve just stuck with them and I really like the setup, especially for iPhones.
My iPhone audio is alway peaking when I use my external microphone 😮❤
Well, this setup can prevent that. 😃
I'm noticing that the wireless has no where near the fidelity of the wired mics. Is that common or do some wireless mics sound better?

Wait….using lav mics they internally recorded 32 bit?
Yep! Into the transmitter with the RODE wireless Pro.
What on earth did you film this on, the focus was all over the place!! Good info though.
It’s called autofocus bro 🤓 shooting with a wide-open aperture on a telephoto and Sony FX30.
@@iphoneographers I’d set it manually next time, it was really distracting.
The DOF when wide open is what I notice. Mic pack in focus but cable fuzzy, for example.
Complaining about video on an audio focused video is wild😂😂😂😂

Have you connected them to your Desktop and updated the firmware using the Rhode Wireless Center yet?
@@wrkeysthe small usbc that came with the product was defective, the big one works great though, thanks
