*LYRICS - Wild Mountain Thyme* ------------ O, the summertime is comin' And the trees are sweetly bloomin' And the wild mountain thyme Grows around the bloomin' heather Will you go, lassie, go? And we'll go together To pluck wild mountain thyme All around the bloomin' heather Will you go, lassie, go? I will build my love a bower* Near yon pure crystal fountain And on it I will place All the flowers of the mountain Will you go, lassie, go? And we'll all go together To pluck wild mountain thyme All around the bloomin' heather Will you go, lassie, go? If my true love, she were gone I would surely find another Where the wild mountain thyme Grows around the blooming heather Will you go, lassie, go? And we'll go together To pluck wild mountain thyme All around the bloomin' heather Will you go, lassie, go? Will you go, lassie, go? It is great to hear a male singer who understands his range, no straining, grating high notes. Matt's singing here is magical Everyone is excellent, and the total result is truly extraordinary!!
Another complete agreement. Matt has the same issue as Jim Corr - he’s really talented, but his three sisters get all the attention. Here Matt sings with real sensitivity.
I'm Scottish and heard many recordings of this song over many years and I really think this is the finest yet. All round precision once again from The Petersens.
Agree, aside from the fiddle intro needs a little more sureness and purpose, which comes from more practice hours. The bar has been already set by those before. Nice slide. ty 4 vid.
Well, isn't that just the sweetest song. And so delicately performed. Katie's traditional intro, Matt's calming voice, the spot on harmonies by Ellen and Julz, Emmett's magical dobro, Karen's tasteful bass playing, the attention given to the colors, the gorgeous backdrop and the great audio. In other words, another trademark Petersens video. If it had a blue sky and a funny outro it would have been totally perfect😉, but stunning job guys.
Saw ye play this last evening in St Luke’s church in my hometown of Cork in Ireland. It was a beautiful setting for such fantastic music. Really lifted my spirits seeing such great musicians and storytellers and hearing the crowd singing the chorus with ye is a memory I will cherish forever. May god go with ye always. Love from Ireland
Well, we're all still singing this song here in Scotland, in the pubs and clubs and schools and everybody in the audience has known the words from childhood and sings along in the chorus. This is a sweet version, nice and gentle, as it was meant to be sung. It's nicely enhanced by Emmet's, as always, melancholy and melodic playing.
My 18-month-old granddaughter sat staring at Katie's intro and rewound it and listened again totally focused on the screen. Thanks guys for helping instill that love of music in the next generation.

I felt like I was in Ireland. Matt is an excellent guitar player with a pleasant voice, but the song really comes alive when the girl sing the harmony.
What I feel: peace and serenity. Today no wind, no background noise, the sound is perfect. Is it real? In front of a dreamy landscape, Katie, always talented, sets the tone under the warm look of Ellen (by the way, as usual, each member of the group turns to the soloist with a knowing and benevolent smile). And then the presentation is judicious: Matt, harmoniously accompanied, has really the voice for this song; Katie and Emmet frame perfectly our vocal trio and finally mother Karen, always in the background, who brings with her touch the indispensable tempo necessary to the whole. One word for this remarkable adaptation: thank you
I've been a folk singer most of my life. I cannot sing this song without crying. And I can't even listen to it without crying. I'm crying a lot (not a bad thing, just an emotional one).
Hi guys, but are you sure you don't have Irish origins? Every song that comes from those lands you make it incredibly fantastic! Matt's voice is absolutely perfect in this song. Indeed, everything is absolutely perfect: Katie's fiddle, Ellen and Julianne's harmonies, Emmet's dobro and then mum who gives a bass line and marks the time as only she can do. And finally, the location is a real dream. In short, it is another true masterpiece of yours. Thanks as always, Roberto. 🙏❤
Bluegrass takes it's roots from traditional Celtic music so it's a very natural transition. Most folks here in Appalachia find their family origins in Ireland or Scotland or both.
Listened again...and it's the arrangement as well as Matt's fine voice. The song builds slowly, the fiddle laying the foundation, the guitar raising the walls, that voice filling the rooms, the banjo the light sparkling through the windowa...andvthat harmony capping it all off!
I think the lassie deserves full disclosure; the only way to the wild mountain thyme 'round the bloomin' heather is through the thick Scottish gorse! Thanks for the beautiful rendition.

I've heard this song by dozens of artists over many decades. Wonderful version, once again Petersens! As I listened to the intro, Katie added many distinctive flourishes that I was not expecting, but she's got that fifth string, so she might as well use them all. 😉

Hi Michael in Ireland ! Have you seen the film " Wild Mountain Thyme" ? What do you think of it and the way they sing that song ? Apparently the fake Irish accents are much laughed at... 🦢🐝...🌄

Every single member of The Petersens is great, and has a great amount of talent! In this video, Matt's singing is great. I'm of Irish descent on my Dad's side, and I have always been drawn to this song. Finally, I want to add that at the beginning, Ellen's expressions looking at Katie while playing the violin says it all - Katie plays with unbelievable talent and ability, but also with all her heart - which is what sets Katie above 99% of musicians and singers out there...
That was a beautiful arrangement. I could almost see Matt roaming the flanks of Ben Nevis gathering sprigs and blooms for his bonnie lass. The Integrity Hills Chapel was a perfect setting. I was imagining it with a thatched roof.
Hey folks, I really do appreciate Your work. Wild Mountain Thyme is one of my most beloved Irish / Scotch ballads. Your Cover is very elegant. Thanks for makink my day (y)
Well I'll be doggoned if that ain't the prettiest thing I've ever seen/heard from y'all! I loved the way this song shone a spotlight on Katie's lyrical fiddle playing for the intro, then moved to Matt for the rest of the song. And the background, my goodness it's perfect. Even got lucky with the cloudy lighting!
I really enjoyed listening to this version. I love the song, and I’ve heard many folks talk about the meaning of it. The lyrics indicate a yearning for someone, a man who is looking for a sweetheart.
Yep, also surprised about that and how they haven't done some other traditional songs; such as: Shenandoah, Early One Morning, Hallelujah, and The Riddle Song(to name a few). Hopefully they will.
Great to see, hear the Brother do a lead .... god match for his softer touch vocal style. The harmonies are spot on and just wonderfully recorded WITHOUT studio effect or even resonance .... simply great !!! GBjj
Wow Nice. one of my favorite songs as well.. I first herd this song when I was tramping around the states and went to a Byrds concert. that was in the 1967 I think.. Still love it today and you have just made my day... Thank you.
your music started out great and magically still gets sweeter, you could perform many different genres of music, but imho your ''Wild Mountain Thyme'' is as close to perfection as it gets ... and it even makes me nostalgic for places i ve seldom been
This is one of the most beautiful things! Reminds me so much of some Irish ballads I heard in my lifetime. Makes me think of my mother. I bet she would absolutely adore this performance. Thank you for sharing. And just as an aside, can I tell you just how refreshing it is to see beautiful young people, dressed naturally, singing their voices as they were made, and singing beautiful songs.
what wonderful music, hey petersens, i am proud to be able to experience you, to be able to hear your music and at the same time to be able to live with you on this planet
Great viola intro with great tone/ the harmony on that minor chord on the word together was awesome because you'll nailed it & it's unexpected/ great Dobro solo as always & the bass creating the solid foundation 👍👍👍 Inspiring arrangement🙏🙏🙏
Inexpressibly beautiful. Another all round humdinger from all the Petersens and Emmet. Matt's voice really grows on me the more I hear it, so relaxing. Greetings from Ireland, where dappled Sun and clouds are lighting up the mountains as I write -- it's a bit early in the year for purple heather but you're making me want to get out on the Dublin foothills right now.
What a beautiful atmosphere here! This song, the voices and the floating music in the air makes me think about an ocean of time. No borders for dreamers. Thank you very much for that!
Pat sending you his arrangement really helped authenticate your playing of this charming song. Your vocals are so clear that i could understand your words. ❤
Pretty, pretty, pretty! Great job Matt! Great solos and harmony and bass! Y'all just can't be pigeon-holed into one genre, but you always have The Petersens sound!

GBjj
It's all perfect...
Such a great arrangement to an incredible traditional song!
And that Dobro... 🤯
Wow Nice. one of my favorite songs as well.. I first herd this song when I was tramping around the states and went to a Byrds concert. that was in the 1967 I think.. Still love it today and you have just made my day... Thank you.
your music started out great and magically still gets sweeter, you could perform many different genres of music, but imho your ''Wild Mountain Thyme'' is as close to perfection as it gets ... and it even makes me nostalgic for places i ve seldom been
The song is just as beautiful as the location.
Thank you, Petersens. As always you fill my heart.
So lovely the violin player is so talented
This is one of the most beautiful things! Reminds me so much of some Irish ballads I heard in my lifetime. Makes me think of my mother. I bet she would absolutely adore this performance. Thank you for sharing. And just as an aside, can I tell you just how refreshing it is to see beautiful young people, dressed naturally, singing their voices as they were made, and singing beautiful songs.
You just hit a string with me, this is not normally my type of music. But I am already in love!!! The ease you this with, wow, blows me away.
Wow. So good I had to listen 3 times in a row. Just couldn't leave the page.
the way y'all watch each other with big smiles on your faces... ugh. love it !!!
what wonderful music, hey petersens, i am proud to be able to experience you, to be able to hear your music and at the same time to be able to live with you on this planet
Matt's voice is so lovely to listen to.
Eh oui la belle époque, merci beaucoup, mes salutations depuis le Maroc.
