I have to strongly disagree. The anime, for its time, is a masterpiece at moments. Every hit feels meaty, it translates the sensation of a boxing match perfectly. All the modern styles, demon slayer included, would ruin it. It would be flashy, but completely unsuitable for the purpose of representing the gritty, feral, core shaking exchanges of a boxing match. The western availability is a mude point as well. The success of a manga is decided in Japan, if it makes it there it will come here. If hajime no ippo was at the level of onepiece in japan, the wester minuscule part of it would be like an added glass of water to an ocean. Boxing is a niche sport nowadays and it affected hajime no ippo during its progression. Since it caters to a enclosed number of fans, there is no appeal in going forward with the animation. Blaming the production is foolish, because it was an incredible one: the soundtrack was amazing, some of the best in the business and, I repeat myself, the animation was perfect for it considering the period. I never felt blows like I did in both hajime no ippo anime and manga.
Yeah I certainly do agree on the animation part , mostly for the first season , but I think what it needs right now is a reanimation for season 1 and it would get the fame it deserves
@@death8114 I would be so happy if Hajime no Ippo got more visibility and a progression in the anime. I am on par with the manga and I believe it's one of the best sport ones out there.
The first 75 episodes and the Kimura OVA, as well as the Sanada (movie???) has literally one of the most creative, and stylized soundtrack's I've ever heard. Shit is CRAZY. Not to mention the animation is amazing, especially for the time.
you forgot to mention that the manga is moving at a glacial pace, with several recent chapters being under 13 pages long. and with the author having stated a few years back that he was only half way through the story, we'll be here a while.
I think the entire story only really works because it is character driven, and the chapters have shortened due to Morikawa's poor health, so that was really something hard for me to find fault with. (didn't know we were only halfway though, that's definitely concerning)
Considering Slam Dunk got a high budget movie and it’s older and complete. Perhaps when Ippo finally gets back in the ring it will spark a renaissance.
What's your favourite fight in Hajime no Ippo? As you could probably guess from the special shout out, mine is Chaos. Re-read some of it to find the pages for this video, and it was so hype seeing the commentators forget to speak the entire first round.
@rioneru4410 top 5. I knew Kimura would lose for narrative purposes (same way I 'knew' Ippo wasn't losing a second time lol), but he put on a display I did not for one second believe was possible from him, and it gave me a respect I didn't expect to develop.
im not sure if this counts but it's probably volg and ippo spar during ippo's retirement, legit made me excited to see volg improve as a character along with ippo, great spar
