Hey guys thanks for the shout out, that's awesome! Thanks for taking the time to show us the flaws in the Prismatic, your not the first to say this either. That wet black looks better anyway. In the end as long as the customer is happy that's all that matters. Great job on the editing too, nice to see you guys cutting out the vinyl and laying down the power. Keep them coming. Thanks again.
Thank you for your support! We appreciate All you do to help us out and to support us! We know there are some powders from We know there are some powders from Prismatic That are good, but we also know that there are other powder companies out there that have better powder all around. We just want to help out as many people as we can and we are glad that you find value in this! We have been working on our editing to make it better, and we have hired a couple of editors as well so we can continue to put out great content for you guys.
It’s truly the way it was designed, its intent is in the right place but very flawed. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a problem with prismatic’s gloss blacks. Essentially their gloss blacks are almost translucent and would have to apply really thick mil in order to get complete coverage, well when doing that you’ll have that thick coat that looks like trash. I’ve done redone at least 10 wheels! Glad you guys switched! I’ll give them A try as well.
We’ve wiped it before, but because of the blasted surface it didn’t work that well. We haven’t tried the vacuum, but it’s a great idea, I think we’ll try it when we get back to town next week.
We haven't tried that color from them yet, but we've heard a lot of good things about it. This month we're going to test a "filp/flop" color from them as well as some more tests with their Kromezone. Also thanks for your support on the channel, we've had a chance to check yours out as well, great content!
with tiger drylac whats the cure process ? like prismatic its put on, after parts hit temp do cure time. Eastwood its powder, go to flow out , then start cure time? how much does it differ from prismatic? doing multiple stage like a black and clear coat or chrome and a clear coat what's the process?
Green Mountain Media Blasting & Powder Coating we did the Sparkle Burgundy Dormant (what Prismatic calls an “Illusion” color) end it works great. I have even heard of people using tigers bangle clear over Prismatic Illusion colors. Of course we will be making videos testing that.
I had the same issue a few weeks ago with the prismatic gloss black..thought I messed up somehow...glad I am not the only one as I could not figure it out...
Great video, I've heard on other channels that a primer coat is needed for better adhesion and quality of the powder coat, is this right?, because I see a good finish with one straight application
There are many cases when primer is must, but not on all applications. Some will argue and say that everything needs to have primer, but a quick look on social media, and you will see some of the best powder coating companies around the world that do not always use primer, and for many they do not use primer unless needed. It does help, and it is a great up-sell to the client though.
We’re in Missouri. We have customers that send us stuff to do quite often. For 24’s $125 per wheel, so $500 for the set. You would have to pay to ship them here and pay for return shipping as well.
Love your content, you guys have taught me a lot. I have a question about the bigger heater you guys are running now. It seems that the model was changed and it now has interrupted spark, instead of continuous spark like the smaller ones. I heard you say on one of the oven vids that the heater has some quirks. Can you elaborate on those quirks? And let us know if the process of integrating a gas solenoid for the pid is still the same as you did on the smaller heater. Thanks!
Yes we can make a video elaborating on the quirks. We do not know for sure if we have the interrupted spark or the continuous spark heater, but regardless we can do a video that will hopefully help you all out. We're in Missouri working on getting the new building, but we can work on the video when we get back.
Your settings were probably off . I’m guessing you’re using the preset settings . They work but when you get to more complex shapes and designs they don’t really allow powder to build to the recommended 2-3 mil . You’ll get about a half mil of coverage that looks good until it’s flowed out and you realize your blast profile was/is about 1-2 mil meaning zero coverage . Also look into getting different nozzles for your gun the wide fan doesn’t get into hard to reach places that well
Thanks for the tips. We were using a preset with minor adjustments we had made. We do have different nozzles for our gun, actual many of them, we just haven't had as much luck with the round fan nozzles as we have the flat one, but that could be a big issue, we're going to try it out for sure. Thanks again for the feedback!
710 Performance it would also be time to replace some of the wear items on the gun like the electrode . When they start showing signs of wear you’ll get light spots . Try testing the resistance of a new electrode and compare it to the resistance of the used one you have if there’s a big difference then it’s time to replace that part
We do not use it any more we use Wet Black from Tiger Drylac or Columbia Coatings. But if you do a light coat, partially cure it, then spray a second light coat when it's hot you should have better coverage
We have not used the GEMA Optiflex 2 so we can not give a side by side comparison. But we have not had any troubles with single, double or even triple coats. We do know from speaking to others that the GEMA system is better than the KF-X1, but the KF-X1 is also 1/3 the cost.
I've been powder coating for 28 years and use a variety of powders from several companies and prismatic has some great colors but imo most of their powders SUCK. they don't like to attract there blotchy and poor coverage just like your wheels . And I've had bad luck with the super chrome turning goldish when clear coated. We use near chrome from cardinal and never a problem
Agreed. Prismatic has done the marketing for so many to believe they are the best, or the only ones that carry. certain colors. They sure have a lot to choose from and they did their Google marketing right for sure. I'll have to try Near Chrome from Cardinal. I haven't heard of it, and there's not any powder coater I have found that says a chrome with clear still looks like chrome, This will be interesting to see. Thanks for the info
@@710performance it still doesn't look like chrome but it's what we use for a base coat for the candy colors . You need to give it a full cure before you top coat it or it will turn dark grey..
What up guys, I have a question about the colo kf-x1, can I use one of those 8 feet long brass bar to connect the system to it for better ground and if so how is it done
You will need to install an earth ground (which is what I believe you're referring to) it's an 8' copper rod and you pound it into the ground (as close to your booth as possible) and leave about 2"-3" sticking out of the ground so you can attach your clamp to it.
@@710performance ok im so sorry for my ignorance im new to this and want to make sure im doing it the right way so the ground from colo connects to the copper bar and from the copper bar I must run a cable to the part, is that correct and thank you so much for all the help as alwasys

It always been a issue for us. At first we thought (and was told by another powder coating TH-camr who ended up being wrong) that it was our Eastwood HotCoat PCS 1000. I’m sure that was part of the issue, but it seems many have had this issue with this color.
It may not be with all of their powders, and it could’ve just been a bad batch but it is some thing that we have had multiple times as well as other people. Just make sure you double check everything.
Ink Black does the same thing as their gloss black. Nearly impossible to get no light spots when spraying cool. I used to have to spray everything twice when I used Ink Black. Then I got smart and switched to Mirror Black II from Sherwin-Williams and haven’t looked back.
I had the same issue plus I coted the wheels with a dual votage from eastwood and after cured I noticed the light spots so I waited for it to cool down to 120 and applied a second coat and that did the trick
We've done the same thing when we had the Eastwood duel voltage system. Just put it in the oven, but don't let it cure all the way, pull it out after it flows out then touch up if needed.

Are you able to scotch pad the area that was not covered adequately and cover over. I'm using ink black by prismatic powders
Since we did not fully cure them (we only gelled them out) we were able to just coat right over them.
In my case I will have to remove the powder and do over
Glyne Collymore sorry to hear that my friend. It happens to us all. It sucks but you’re not alone 😁

Would it be quicker and easier to vacuum the mounting pads instead of the tape? Just wondering if you tried it that way.
