    For anyone watching and doing the install read this
    Took me an hour or so to figure it out but here is a tip for getting that shit screw off the top of the guard plate. Wish I knew this prior install would have been only 1.5 hours. So you’ll need a long flexible head 3/8 ratchet and a short 12mm 3/8 socket. Reaching from the rear side place the socket onto the bolt (you have to feel for it you can’t seee shit) then from the engine side of the the plate (other side) reach over the top with the long flex head ratchet, use your other hand from the rear to push the ratchet onto the socket BAM more than enough room to take it off I was so pissed and relieved when I figured this out after fuckin my hands up with a damn box wrench. Also for the roll pin use a smaller punch to knock out the smaller pin first then the 5mm to knock the bigger OMG so much easier took 2 sec
    Anyways there yah go

    Excellent product .works very well, I think the only slightly tricky part is one small bolt that holds the rear cover over the shifter plate. The fact I removed the transmission cross members was probably the one thing that made this possible because it allowed the transmission to drop down about 1-2 from the trans tunnel of the car. The issue with the one bolt on the rear cover is the top most forward bolt needs to be removed ideally with a wratching open end box wrench, i doubt any socket and wratchet combination would get between the bolt and the body without interference, I put both the shifter plate and the short shifter in my 2015 WRX in a little more than 2 hours and thats included jacking the car up and down and putting my tools away, yes believe it or not I actually put my tools away because I was sick of buying new ones to use every time i needed to work on my car again years ago. Have fun you guys this was an easy install and the difference is amazing Thanks Boomba.

    Just installed this. Shifting is way better. I used two washers on the shifter cover plate to give it a bit more clearance. I used the smallest ratchet possible to get the top 12mm bolt from the cover

    Is it safe to remove the transmission mounts? I see that the whole trans moved after you unlosen the bolts.

    Anyone attempting this in 2021. Use a 1/8 punch to punch out the smaller pin and then a 3/16 punch to punch out the bigger pin. Take ur time with this one can get frustrating.

    Anyone have problems after installing this part? My reverse lights don't work at times. I go into reverse and my reverse lights won't get triggered. I have to wiggle the shifter a bit or push it to the right pretty forcefully and then they'll come on. Idk if I should just remove this thing.

    Great installation video. One question....is the shifter plate cover not reinstalled once the Boomba adapter goes on? The tech in the video only reinstalled the cable cover.

    • @BoombaRacing
      @BoombaRacing  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One of the covers remains off with the installation of our plate. As long as you are not constantly off-roading your car, you shouldn't have any issues.

      +BoombaRacingInc does it fit back on with the boomba transmission plate?

    • @BoombaRacing
      @BoombaRacing  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The one cover remains off when you install our plate. The cable cover stays, but the lower cover does not. This is only if you install our shifter plate. Our short throw shifter doesn't alter anything underneath the vehicle.

    • @gatorb8

      No, I guess it gets in the way and will result in a stiff shift instead of smooth. I keep hearing ppl are putting it back on but with washers some how.

    I often end up driving my car in extreme snow (and obviously salt) on my way to/from ski resorts. With the shifter plate cover permanently off, wouldn't this be an issue when driving in harsh environments?

    • @BoombaRacing
      @BoombaRacing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This plate is billet steel and will not corrode. We have been running our car with the cover off for years now in Illinois (salty wintery climate) with no issues!

      No need to get crazy with those brackets, but you do want to make sure they are nice and tight.

    • @BoombaRacing

      What about it doesn't fit? We've got some customers running both piece. However most people feel that our plate alone eliminates the need for a shift bushing.

    Does anyone have any additional information on how to remove the rear shifter plate cover? The install video just says to remove it, but I couldn't get mine off. I did this install yesterday, and aside from it being a colossal PIMA to do on the floor of my garage, it went well. Since I couldn't get the shifter plate cover off, it's still in the way. I have it bent up as far out of the way as possible, but the boomba short shift adapter hits it occasionally. Any extra tips would be helpful.

    • @BoombaRacing
      @BoombaRacing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The shifter plate cover stays off with our shifter plate installed. The guard stays, but the larger cover remains off. There are only a few bolts that hold it on. There is one on top near the body of the vehicle that is a little bit difficult to get to, however.

    • @craigfisher9197
      @craigfisher9197 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was where I'm confused. I removed three bolts, one facing the passenger side, and two rear facing (above and below the drive shaft), but couldn't get the cover off. Are there more than three bolts?

    • @BoombaRacing
      @BoombaRacing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are four bolts as seen here: www.boombaracing.com/content/WRX%2015%20Shifter%20plate.pdf

    Any torque specs for the transmission support brace bolts?

    • @BoombaRacing
      @BoombaRacing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure they are pretty snug and you are good to go. They are strong bolts threading into heavy metal, no need to be too concerned about snapping these.
