    Hey all. Just installed mine. Well, just finished it. I’m not the most car savvy person in the world but feel I’m pretty mechanically inclined. The roll pin is by the far the hardest part. You can pop the smaller center one out, to loosen pressure on the larger pin if needed. Can put them back together before putting it on new plate as he did with the needle nose. The old shield does not get reused. The car will not go into 1st, 3rd or 5th with it in place. Make sure to leave it off. Otherwise, it’s amazing and I’m absolutely in love with it along with the weighted knob. It’s how the car should’ve felt to begin with.

      I can't get the old plate off. I punched the pin out unless there's a 3rd one outside the other two. So i just punched it back in, and it went in fine. Much harder if you don't start it while off of the trans. I'll probably give it another try tomorrow but that thing was on there.

      @@mattevans1643 hit with some pb and pry evenly with a flat head or pry bar. Don't bend and don't over do it cause it will royally fuck something up. Sometimes they're really on there. But you're certain the two pins popped out and not just the inner?

    definitely one of those "while you are in there " installations....because while you are in there, you might as well add a new transmission mount and positive shift kit (Whiteline or similar) with all of the braces and brackets you are taking off; if you haven't done those mods already. Plus, if the car is on a lift, it makes it soooo much easier...

    Love the BW shift plate and short shifter, but you gotta add in the part where you lube the shift cable before trying to put it on the bushing. It's a PITA without lube, and then actually using the shifter is terrible. I went back and added lube to the bushing and now its butter smooth.

  • @launderedentertainment

    Too bad there isn’t an aftermarket shifter plate cover. I installed one on 2017 WRX and a rock somehow got stuck in between the plate and the transmission. It wasn’t fun moving through the gears. Very sketchy. Luckily, it just impaired shifting. I removed the rock and it worked flawlessly afterwards.

    • @Billetworkz

      That is correct. If you reinstall that shield, it will interfere with the shifter plate and you will not be able to engage 1st, 3rd, and 5th.

    • @mattevans1643
      @mattevans1643 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@avokovich3579 you can do it on jack stands. That pin is the only problem. The crossmember has to come off unless you have a foot long punch. If you have a really long punch you don't have to take the crossmember off. If you have a really long punch you can remove the cablemount, and not have to remove the clip. Which is a pain also.

    This thing is kicking my ass. I punched the pin out and couldn't get the old plate off. I needed to go somewhere, so i punched the pin back in, super difficult. Much easier when it's already been started. Put the new bushing on. Buttoned it up, went driving, and then the car just isn't driving right no acceleration. So i put the old bushing back in, and it was perfectly normal. Have no idea what the issue was. I know the car can mess itself up, but the acceleration thing was constant. I also noticed the shifter was basically free when in gear i almost thought about trying to throw it in neutral just to find out, but then i thought better. After putting the old bushing back in the shifter didn't have any play in it either. Which also didn't make sense, because it was tight on the aluminum bushing. Now i just need to get back at that plate. Don't know how i'm getting that thing off. I must have tried for about 30 minutes. Tis for another day. Anybody have recommendations for getting the old plate off.

    I just finished an install for a customer. I only took off the front transmission support crossmember and didn't touch the heat shield or the second cross Member attached to the shield. It was unnecessary in my experience. The 3x 12mm bolts are easy to reach w/a extension and wobble adapter.
    For the pin I didn't have a punch w/ me so I fashioned a punch out of a screw and grinded it flat and removed the threads, using a auto E-hammer made the job easier, a standard hammer was taking forever and was way too crammed of an area to work even on a mobile lift.
    As far as removing that clip in the shift linkage I'd also advise against it as it barely helps make any clearance, instead take off the 2x 12mm bolts holding the shift linkage on and pull the whole bracket w/ clip out of the way. Easier to take off and no PITA clip to put on and put back on in that tight space.
    Putting the new pin in with my auto hammer was super easy, took 30s, the hammer was just to get it started... From there I wouldn't waste my time after hitting my fingers with the hammer 3x due to aluminium transmission mounting areas getting in the way and deflecting my strike. A sharpie is your friend when lining up the cotter pin to the hole.
