When the album Floored was released, every song except for "Fly" sounded like this. Fly was just something they did as an experiment. Low and behold, it was their first hit and they changed their style to match Fly. One can wonder what would've happened had they become successful with the harder sound they first had.
Sasfoot Indeed, the Corporate Machine didn't like the rebel fuck you sound and pushed them to be sell outs. But in the end life is about making money cause without it you cant support a family.

Back in March 1995 I was a teen coming home from school in time for lunch and this video was in heavy rotation for a solid two to three weeks. I fell in love with this band. Lemonade and Brownies is still the best album in my opinion. It's so diverse and refreshing to listen to, still to this day after almost 30 years.
What a kickin' ass tune....I'm listening this since 1995 and I never get tired of it...guys, if someone still has to, listen to their "Lemonade & Brownies" album: it's totally genius.
If they would release another album with songs like this, they would be back at the top of the heap so to speak. There aren't really alot of "big" bands out there that're pullin' off this kind of stuff. Their name alone would guarantee some degree of success. Not to mention all of the '90s kids that'd be goin' nuts for this. I know I would.
I would love to hear them put something else like this out, but I don’t think it would put them back at the top of anything, today or 12 years ago, when you made this comment. This type of music hasn’t been popular since, like, 2003 at the latest. They’d have a better chance making a new album with their post-sellout sound. That type of music has made a comeback in recent years.
@@Crunchatize_Me_Senpai yea these people are delusional. This album didn't even put them on the top of the heap when it came out. The album flopped and they were considered second rate rhcp knockoffs. It wasn't until they "sold out" that they had any kind of success.

Yeah, but then again if they were really enjoying making the kind of music they did after this then more power to them. Who knows, I don't know any of them personally so I do not know how they felt about either style of music. Some bands sell out in a different way when they refuse to change and keep making the same shit for years even though its palpable they are sick of their own shit.
Heard this every time I played Road Rash 64. By the time that game came out, though, Sugar Ray had already changed into the band we know them as today. Sucks they abandoned their harder sound in favor of the lighter stuff, but after they experimented with "Fly" and it became a hit, I don't blame them for continuing in that direction. It was the late '90s: many artists and bands out there, and you had to stand out to get a piece of the pie.
This song was actually off their first album, 'Lemonade and Brownies'. Most of their music was more hard rock influenced at the time. They wrote Fly for the second album, and it really didn't fit with the rest of the music on the record, and they wrote it as a joke at first, but the producer David Kahne loved it so much he convinced the band to model the following albums off of it.
I've heard that for the second album they actually wanted to do a sorta Metallica tribute to the fact that they wanted to originally call Kill em All, Metal Up Your Ass. they were gonna call it Shiny Solid Object Up Your Heiny Hole, and it was going to be all semi loosely based Metallica covers. Now I am not sure of the validity of that because I heard that a long long time ago but that would have been freaking hilarious and awesome.
I had RR3D years ago on my PS1 and it broke sadly, so a month ago I bought it again for two reasons: 1) Old school gaming 2) The superb music If anything, I think this was the song that got me into metal, I was only about 9 or 10 at the time but this song with CIV and Full On The Mouth changed the way I listened to music and it's not gonna change any day soon =D.

@@murphykarges7584 Wow, I did not know any of the band members had a TH-cam channel. I just checked out the Fly video, and I'm excited to look at more. I should also clarify, "old" and "new" Sugar Ray is good music, I like both, I just prefer the heavier sound in general, if that makes sense. I just feel like my comment could have come off as like, trashing the new sound, and a lot of metal/rock fans who like heavy stuff like to dunk on more pop-rock sounds. But I think both have merit.
