    I watched this last year thinking “thank god I don’t have to do that.” Fast forward today, my truck tossed its axle out of the housing and sheared all the hub bolts. Took off the tire to get at it and the drum is pitted and crusty it’s so rusted. Looks like I’m getting to it. Thanks for the video.

    I have a owned a HJ 60 since new.
    It’s seen 6 dogs, 3 wives, one clutch and never had the head off.
    I only replaced the Clutch last year after 330,000 km. Love that car!

      Haha spot on. If only dogs lived as long as Toyota’s, maybe I’ll rename my dog “Landcruiser” and hopefully get a couple more years outa him 😂

      Ha!
      My car has been known as The Dog Truck for about 20 years or more.
      Just for fun I also have a 45 troopie. I’m wishing it was a 2H as well but alas it’s 2F.
      Good luck with your channel I have turned the Bell on so there is no hiding now ;)

    Mate, I love how your keeping it real. All the struggles with all the home mechanics. Its only a 10min job until you brake one bolt, then is a 15 hour job!

    A tip for putting in the new bearing races. Cut a slit in the old races that way they can compress inside the hub and are easy to get out

      Great idea!

      lol i just saw your comment after saying the same thing. Works a treat hey.

  • @mickwolf1077
    @mickwolf1077 ปีที่แล้ว

    neat little trick i worked out with the old bearing race is to cut the old one across so its not a ring anymore, just the width of a hacksaw blade will be enough to make it looser fitting so you can get the sucker out with your fingers when you use it to seat the new ones 👌

    • @favouritejay
      @favouritejay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great idea. I think I’d be soo scared I’d nick the hub.

      @@favouritejay I should have mentioned once its out to help get new ones in, I'm not looking forward to knocking mine out in the near future though.

    Screwdrivers are not bearing punches lol.
    If you have a welder, run a hot bead around the bearing surface of the old conesand they will fall out. No hammer required.

    Easiest way I found to get the seal out of the hub is to knock the bearings out and the seal will come with it

    Did you fill the hub with grease before you put it back on?

    2:06 Isn't there two threaded holes in the hub so you can screw in some bolts and push the hub off?

      Hey buddy, I’m thinking of having a website where you’ll have links to everything that I use coming very soon. Otherwise nearly all the parts are use are from a Melbourne based company called Terrain Tamer. Hope that helps :)

    G,Day Jay, 2k for HJ60 plates, maybe not.
    I was hoping to see you install axle seal ? I've bought one as have oil seeping from hub ?
    did you install ? noticed you needed to pack grease and silastic gaskets and hub nuts ?
    P.S Phat 60 now gone 😉

    • @favouritejay
      @favouritejay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate, yeah I didn’t install actual hub seals. Pretty straightforward just put it on a talk to down to specs which I think was 135 do you need us to talk, but make sure you check if you do change it. I definitely think I’m gonna custom plates one day for the car. At this point I think I was just gonna go historic plates

    No grease and anti cease?

    • @favouritejay
      @favouritejay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I greased the bearing. No anti cease in the Toyota manual. Just the right torque settings. 12 months in and no problems yet!!!!

    Hey mate awesome vid! Just wondering if you replaced your inner axle seal, it didn't look like it had one when you pulled the axle shaft out. Which might explain the brown oily grease inside the hub hahaha.
