Oh yes, the Defender will perform splendidly, with its brilliant technical assets - the first couple of years. Then the time comes for the more sturdy of these two: the LC. The newer Land Rovers have a history of breaking down; the newer LCs have a history of beeing far from those fancy Land Rovers - but steadily keeping their promise: to get you out in the bush and secure back. The old Australian saying - "if you want to go out in the bush, drive a Land Rover; if you want to get back, drive a Land Cruiser" - is probably still reliable...

@@raghavshankara5601 It's not about the affordability. The where I lived, terrain focused, customized Toyotas have higher demand even though they are more expensive to possess than average LRs. LRs compete with other luxury SUVs which is being used as a status symbol or shopping carts. Based on my understanding first, they need to work on big time to improve their brand image by delivering more consistently reliable vehicles. Unfortunately this is true for the majority of main stream European vehicles

I have the Prado 2.8L diesel and couldn't be happier with it. One in the comments mentioned ground clearance only bring 22cm, not sure where you got that from, mine has over 30cm as standard from the factory. It was bought brand new last year. The prado in the video looks lower than the ones we have here. I can pretty much fit my head between the wheel and the wheel arch on my Prado. The one in the video diesnt look like you can, or it might just be how it shows in the video. Also the emergency breaking I believe doesnt work lower than 30 kph. If you are going faster it will stop the car, no problem. But at the end of the day it is down to the driver to be alert, awake and aware of what is going on around and always be ready to break or swerve as required and not rely on a computer to do it for you.

Of course the Prado will be more reliable in the long term. The only thing you have on it are doors, wheels, windows and engine. Not even the auto braking feature actually works ( pretty reliable, right? ). Great video and very enlightening!
I’m so happy I could save myself 26 mins by knowing the obvious; Toyotas are the most reliable vehicles on earth & Jag/Land Rover is hot trash, made for those who want to ride around thinking they’re “high-class”.

I think you did an amazing test! Were you using the GPS speeds at the on road handling and breaking tests, or the indicated speeds of the car speedometer? I’m asking because the Prado speedometer shows about 10% more speed than is true. I don’t know the accuracy of the New Defender speedometer

Prado 2020 does not have the emergency braking where it applies the brakes itself - it only warns the driver. Emergency braking was only provided by Toyota from 2021 Prado.
Defender either in the car garage waiting for repair or on the way to the garage to repair. Not need to even mention the difference on the repair bill. That’s the answer.
How many Land Rovers have you owned? I have one, and it has 276000 km on It. No problems. And when it's really snowing, Land Cruiser get stuck when Land Rovers just keeps going....

Break and all test depend by what tyres used . With 22 cm clearence prado is in difficulties off road . On road prado is a disaster in turnings road . I driven both prado cannot competitie unfortuntely with defender is totaly dated on road and off road . If would be same happy to buy toyota !

At the end of the day in 5 years time the defender will break down many times and have issues and the Toyota will keep working.

Sorry lmao, we don’t have snow here, so can’t comment on that. Maybe old Land Rover is pretty robust, new one pretty average cos my friend has one and he swapped it to Toyota. All I know is if it fails on road Toyota will get you back home eventually and Land Rover will need a tow truck. Jst facts.
If you want to go and come back home take the Land Cruiser

Well, this test is more for showoffs than for people that actually choose those cars for their purpose and that's offroading. Talking about the purpose, nothing beats Toyota reliability and any serious offroader will pick Toyota over LD. Fancy electronics will fail in harsh conditions and LR is known for its limp mode. If you want to challenge offroad capabilities of Toyota, then next time you do the comparison test I suggest you get some tires manufacturer/distributor on board, so they can fit testeed cars with correct tires, only then you can do the proper testing/comparison. I don't understand youtubers. They work so hard to get a content, but fail with getting right sponsors of the video.
