Love those real boxy looking SUVs, but I love that 70 series Land Cruiser even more!!
New defender : were there any obstacles there? I didn't realize 🤣
Half of the video was him stuck on a rock...maybe you should re-watch it. 🤣😅😆
The old defender got up the rock crawl better than the new. Embarrassing considering Land Rover cancelled the old model. I would guess there won't be many new defenders being collected in 2045.
That Toyota Landcruiser is 😮 just a machine so strong 💪🏻
🔥🔥🔥💥 land cruiser!!!!
It lost
Hahahaha 🎉🎉, it fails every test and struggles the most
@@mbukukanyauthe first attempt on the hill climb wasn’t a fair comparison due to tyre pressure and rear locker not being engaged.
@@doobedi១
im already on my second Defender of the latest generation. Can’t describe in words how good of a vehicle both on and off road it is.
Old defender did the best job, for most of the time not relying on diff locks, and without TC. But my pick, the 76 series anyday.
reliable above all the rest
Diff lock makes a whole heap of difference, but it’s pretty evident that Land Rover and Toyota are in a whole league of their own, damn impressive both of them. The H3 was a joyful surprise!
I love that Toyota LC 76 series 😍😍
Impressed by the new defender
Wow.
The legend is back from his 5 month break...
Hell yeah, it was a very long break. Now Im back with lot of interesting content.
@@SUVBattle can you test the Genesis models?
@@SUVBattle can you test luxury suv like rolls royce cullinan vs maybach gls vs range rover autobiograph

As an owner of a LC78 i can only say that you might have a far more comfortable ride in one of the new 4wds but when it comes to relyability on biggert trips and places far away from people, you probably cant repair the new cars. So i’d stick with a mechanichal one.
It really comes down to what you want to do with your car. For daily driving i’d allways pick a more comfy one.
All the models did great on the test in my opinion. And I like that the narrator was also mentioning the tyrepressures. It really comes down to that a lot of the time. Hitting any track I allways lower it down to about 1/3 or half of the onroad pressure, it really makes the diference.
I own a modern LR and this is absolutely true. If you do long trips away from civilization, pick the most mechanical, analog vehicle you can get, add a winch, front and rear lockers and there is nothing you can't pass. But you WILL sacrifice comfort.
If you use it for daily driving, occasionally taking it off the road, pick the comfy, cushy, techy ride. It'll handle the off road well, but will need more attention from civilization if something breaks. But you'll never ever have a complaint about comfort.
With the low profile tire like the one of new Defender there is not much of a room to play with tire pressures. Lower profile tires gives you more risk of getting flats.
This video shows again, a tyre-pressure (especially on SAND) and the right choice of tires is crucial. Activating the rear lockers is also recommended, BEFORE the obstacle or the trial section, not when you get stuck. I still prefer the old LR or a Toyota, as they don't have too many eletronic gadgets. If some of these gadgets fail, you're a sitting duck with the new LR.
Tyre pressures are everything , especially in sand. It somewhat invalidates this test when you have a range of 16 psi on one vehicle and up to 40 psi on others.
Old Defender for me, it is just a versatile vehicle and upgrades can be added to make it as good as the new one, if not better, hard to do this with the new one as so much is built in to it so hard to modify.
Totally agree! So lucky that i bought a 2008 TD4 some years before
Upgrades to the new Defender are heavily limited, to the old (original) Defender however depends on your imagination as well as your wallet.
Watching from Nairobi Kenya, East Africa.
I had really missed these videos. Welcome back my man.
Anakuwaga na comparisons fiti sana, sindio
I own a 2006 Hummer H3 with Lux & Adventure packages. It's a very capable machine. The baby behemoth has never been stuck because of a short coming of the Hummer’s capability, my own fault was to blame the once and only time I got stuck, because I slipped off a tree stump I was driving over about 6 inches too far right for the tire to keep hold and got high centered a skid plate.
No one knows what this machine is capable of! Same here, never get stuck instead once in soft deep snow.
I never think of the approach and departure angle also.
That New Defender on those tyres is a beast he passed very good every challenge
In other tests elsewhere, it has been commented many times that the new Defender can do insane things on very modest tyres. The tyres used here were at the lighter end of the A/T spectrum. It would have done better on full A/T's.
@@Pesmog i know that’s why i said that!
All the new Tech cars are great as long the electric stuff is working
….without sweating at all. Well, a little bit… But still, very impressive!
13:19 is not really very good..old one did far better, as soon as it had its rear diffs locked, as others did by default, except toyota dude who used it when needed....
76 Land Cruiser is simply floating ❤️🔥
The Toyota went faster and was locked up. He didn't want to let the Toyota faithful down so did it his way. Can't wait for the next video, I'm pulling for the LR3!
First obstacle I will go with LC did the excellent job
Time to see how the new Discovery compares to the Defender.
I second this
Lol, I third that
😆
You will have to wait five months for next video lol the best channel on TH-cam doesn’t need to do daily weekly videos .
Yawn
Excellent video, an impressed by the Original Land Rover performance. It is a true off road legend.
Welcome back Sir. Your videos are always engaging, informative and well edited. Really love the comparisons
I could go for the new model Defender, it's crawl control is excellent, welcome back bro. I really missed these stuff.
Also it has central & rear locker and works in tandem. The vacation was too long =)
I just cannot get over the beauty salon looks
@@SUVBattle plus it looks solid and compact, I personally would go for the four-door version to suit my preferences.
I think the land cruiser 300 traction control and crawl control are excellent too

It's unbelievable how fantastic offroad capabilities having the new models from LR 💪.

This was quite unfair to the land cruiser, it had 29psi pressure being compared to 13. Almost thrice but still managed. That's my number one
Agreed… and I would imagine the over-inflated tires probably hurt the cruiser in the other areas of the challenge too. No metal shavings either 😂
Dear Mr Diyas, welcome back! I've learned a lot about 4wd working schemes thanks to your channel.
I think there are some interesting products probably you didn't consider yet on the market to compare :
1) Ssangyong Rexton my 2017 (no back diff lock and probably lazy traction control based on the few serious offroad existing videos) versus the new 2021 restyled version with a back diff lock. That's such an interesting SUV with proper hardware ,chassis, and good ride and interior, for the money especially on used cars market.
2) the tiny, more European focused (for dimensions) Suzuki Jimny and maybe Vitara.
All the best
Love my H3, totally underrated suv and a bargin in my opinion. Glad to see some H3 representation.
It also clearly won
lol no, it’s a junk. Look at that H3 switches and jitters on the track like a Parkinson patient, how pathetic
As a Hummer h3 owner it was great to see this video. Never gets old being on trails and having people look at the “grocery getter” in awe.
The h3 clearly won this competition, despite having a worse driver then the LRD. The owner of this channel has a bias towards LR though.
You own Junk not worth mentioning ...should be ashamed of yourself

@@edsgarage001what? The H3 was all over the place and nowhere controlled 😂
The thing I appreciate most in this video is the surgical no fat narration and video editing

Finally a new video! Love love love your videos

That new defender is something else 😳
Such a great comparison of vehicles, I just wish everyone had the same tires, would love to see this done some day
Indeed
This is the best comparison channel I ever seen. I just like to point in this video I wish the new Toyota 4Runner was included. Great job from everyone!
Finally a good video in You Tube glad to found your channel well done!
On the sand dune, the Land Cruisers mismatched front and rear axle tracks significantly disadvantage it.
The axle tracks are the same on the 6 cyl 4.2, only the V8 4.5 has a wider front track.
The 4.5 liter V8 76 and 79 series a supplied in Australia chad their front track widened to accommodate the larger V8 block, they were too cheap to supply a wider rear staying with the standard 6 cylinder axle spacing, most serious off road Australian owners use extended studs and spacers to equalise tracking.
The 4.5 diesel V8 can be easily remapped to give serious power/torque and would have pulled hi range through the gate with a competent driver.
The Landcruiser is the only serious choice here in outback Australia, although sadly the 76 wagon unlike the V8 troop carriers and pick-ups only gets a single fuel tank compared to two 80 liter tanks in all others.
A big thing in remote areas where fuel can be several hundred klms apart.
Not sure why the Pathfinder is here, it's a soft reader, the better choice would be a Nissan Patrol V8 IMO.
The Toyotas just don't do well in the sand.
Great video, test and description.
As an additional test, the onroad high speed dynamics between new land rover and new LC300 should also be compared. it seems that new land rover excels at both off and on road
That clip is excellent, very, very well explained and very good tests. Further more, the comments are pointing the problems. Thanks allot for this clip, those pearls make YT so attractive. Without those clips, YT would be nothing.
Coming from a 20 year veteran off-roader, Toyota land cruiser 70 series is the King 👑 of all stock standard 4wds.
The driver of the Toyota LC in this video is clearly a rookie who has no idea about the capabilities of this awesome machine.
The best 4wd comparison channel!
Welcome back man, thanks for your videos, i do like them,
Can't wait to see the next video.
Wish for this comparison: Toyota Fortuner, LR discovery 4, Mitsubishi, etc of the same size.
Been waiting for this video, it's finally here

Anxiously awaiting your next video
Oh my God, I had missed you guys!
Nice bro
Vintage and modern comparision 👏👍
Wow great video sir. I really appreciate it. Keep it up
A great video and good analysis. If possible, we would like to know a little about the price and the tyres of each vehicle and the driver's credentials .. say years of off road driving experience. A short interview of each driver in the beginning? I am giving these suggestions ... but I am really impressed by the video and the analysis.
What took you so long lol keep those videos coming. Amazing work

Unbelievable how new defender finishes all with ease!
Once again a brilliant video showing classic offroaders in their natural habitat...

New Defender rule them all. Standard tires, standard suspension, standard engine, yet deal all obstacle gracefully, with no drama.
Not to mention that this vehicle could be driven by your grandmother through all of this tests shown here. Excellent off road even better on road. 100% pleasure everywhere.
Well done Land Rover 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks sharing, very interesting and useful video. I would like to see also the Pajero Mk4 in same conditions and traks as very special.
2020 Land Rover Defender did everything splendid as I expected👌😍
Great! What cars would be interesting to see on the current trail?
And the land cruiser is super old schoo with not even 200hp lol 😅
Finally! Breath of fresh air. Welcome back guys.
Respect to that new Land Rover ❤😂
I have H3 2006 same model and I am happy to see this video test.
Really looking forward to the Discovery 2, 3 & 4 comparison video.
I'm impressed with the Hummer H3.. Nice moves!
Amazing how capable the new Defender is. I love when people complain it's not really a Defender. Um, ok, but it just walked right past the old Defender no problem.
Everyone just wishes it looked more like the old one.
@@mixwellusa I think it looks fantastic. I especially love the rear end. It can only be so square in the era of quiet cabins and fuel economy.
The old Defender was running big fat tyres. On 7.50x 16 as fitted as standard it would have less rolling resistance and higher ground pressure for more grip. I have driven old LRs thousands of miles in deserts of Arabia and never had much trouble. Fat tyres are for urban poseurs and they interfere with the engine speed/ ground speed ratio for any given gear.
@@philhawley1219 And how much have you driven the new one?
Also, you say the old defender ran on fat tires and then say fat tires are for urban posers. I guess I don't follow.
Hi Dias, i loved this video
Great video, Borat.
Unfair verdict. Indeed old school won and the pure mechanic systems are the catch
Front diff lock would alleviate most problems on a rocky uphill section.
This 76 series ❤ looks just badass 🔥
Looking forward to it
Thank you Dyas for posting such greats videos with greats analysis and observations. My request is if you can make this exact video with the Mercedes G class, Land Rover Defender 1996, Toyota Land Cruiser 76, Nissan Patrol Y60 and Mitsubishi pajero 2. I would be pleased
Y61 TB48 Nissan Patrol super safari would easily dominate this category... it's only downfall is it's fuel consumption "17 to 20 litres per 100k" which isn't that surprising being a 4.8L inline 6cyl petrol engine also a Y61 turbo TB48 Nissan Patrol holds the world record for the fastest and quickest suv in the world 7.12S@312KM
Great video, missed them. Please test the 2016 defender vs the g class w464 ba06 vs the new grenadier when it comes out
Great video! I have been looking for the discovery video mentioned, but I couldn’t find it. Was it ever posted?
Great video and channel, Still prefer my 2009 Puma Defender swb for its looks above all these, don't really go off road much but with traction control i guess would do okay.
Impressed with the 3.5L HUMMER H3. It's even more capable in the H3 Alpha V8.
I'm actually surprised about the new defender... seeing as how they have fallen so far from their roots. It is starting to seem like they are returning to said roots, however. They just need to fix that rear axle ground clearance and add the option for larger tires. The Hummer, I kinda expected better

That Hummer done awesomely well, Many doesn't believe in his offroad capabilities
Exactly that! Just because of what people are saying, I didn't think it would be anywhere near as good but it did great!
Good content 👍
Wow nice performance
New Defender trumped and in comfort too. And on top of this it also would be far more at home on the highway than all the others put together.
To me, the Hummer is the winner because it does all those obstacles flawlessly and costs a fraction of the price of the rest of it’s contenders.
That depends of where you're buying the Hummer.
It used 13PSI on the sandy hill climb. That gave it a huge advantage. In that sort of terrain that sort of tyre pressure is what should be used and the difference between say 13PSI and 20PSI is huge. For really tough sandy hill climbs we will often use 8PSI.

I have an 08 H3. It's nice to see what it could be capable of.
How does it do in the snow?
