  • 200 MPH+ control line DREADNOUGHT PULSE JET (BMFA NATS 2017) [*UltraHD and 4K*]
First time I had seen one of these and certainly one of the scariest to film. Safety dictated I filmed from behind the safety fencing obviously but you get the clear impression of the speed of these projectiles. The line is fixed to a pole in the centre and the pitch/elevator control by a slider that moves backwards and forwards on the line. The movement on the elevator is tiny. No more than 2mm. The power from these pulse jets varies from 4lbs to 8lbs. Enough power to push these models to over 200mph average over 8 circuits! This 'Dreadnought' pulse jet was flown by Richard Grindley.
Filmed at the British Model Flying Association (BMFA) Power Nationals ('NATS') event 2017 using the Panasonic AG-UX180 4K pro camcorder by Dom Mitchell of 'Essential RC' TH-cam channel.

Just let them be, they are sad people. ;)
I love the fact that anything can be a passion, and i'm happy to see diversity in hobbies.
Wouldn't it be dull if everyone liked the same thing?

So just because you like a video, the world should like it too and if they dont, then they are Nancies? not sure if you are familiar with how youtube works, but let me educate you. there is a like and a dislike button. you are free to click on which one ever you choose. the publisher made the video public. he also allowed viewers to post comments. when you do that, you will get variety of opinions from all kinds of people. Not sure what you saw, but when I watched this video, all I saw a dot going across my screen and some guy walking in a very tight circle. ya, lot of excitement.

Absolutely NO disrespect intended when I say: TRY being a TEENAGER in the *1970s.* NOT lots of *$$$,* in your pocket, and *R/C* cost *$$$.*
Moreover, the guys - ADULTS - in the club I was a member of in the 1970s had been flying CL since AT LEAST as far back as the 1960s. Back THEN, there WAS little or no R/C....

When I was a kid in the 50s, I watched the grown-ups flying one of these. They didn't have leaf blowers or compressed air to start them with back then, they had a bicycle tire pump. It took about 10 or 15 minutes of furious hand pumping before they got it to fire up. That, with a short flight time, didn't seem worth it to us kids. Sure was fun though!

I considered trying my hand with these Control Line pulse jet models, but my terror was of tripping, or otherwise getting into a situation where I "fell behind" the model's speed, so that the line quickly wrapped around me--ending with the flaming, red-hot pulse jet engine burning my flesh! RC pulse jet models don't have that problem--just the tremendous noise!

Incorrect. The line is not fixed to a pole, it is held by the pilot. The handle held by the pilot fits into a stirrup on the centre "pole" just to ensure that the plane is flying at a constant radius, this being necessary to accurately establish the speed.
