  • What to expect in the final stages of heart failure? 13 Signs and Symptoms of Dying
    #death #dying
Heart Failure is a chronic disease of the heart. This means that there is no cure and it is expected for the heart to slowly lose it's ability to function properly. The worse the heart functions, the more a person will experience symptoms of heart failure. Some people never reach the final or terminal stages of heart failure, others do.
End Stage Heart Failure or Congestive Heart Failure can cause a number of symptoms at the end of life that may be different from someone without heart failure. In this video, we will talk about what to expect when someone is dying of heart failure and the symptoms to expect at the end of life. It's important to note that every person is different, and therefore the severity of the symptoms described in this video may vary from person to person. Not every person will experience all of the symptoms discussed here, but if a person has end stage heart failure, they will likely experience many of them.
I hope this video will be a resource for you and provide you with education to start to prepare for the dying process and terminal heart failure.

My mom was diagnosed with heart failure 20 years ago. She is 81 now. She has had many good years. She lives on the second floor and climbs the stairs (carefully) several times a week. She loves to go to the beach and stand barefoot in the sand. She also loves to ride the cart around Costco for the free samples. She takes the dog out and sometimes goes to the senior center for lunch.
I'm not writing this to brag. I'm only saying... if there is the heart failure diagnosis, don't give up. My mom fought off cancer, even after the diagnosis of 75% heart failure. Cancer free for over 5 years. (She had a mastectomy.)
She also had her heart stop. They recessitated her and she was on life support for three days. That was 10 years ago.
So, though it is true, many don't get much time after the diagnosis, some people can still live many good years. Don't give up.

My husband passed last Tuesday. We were going to het something to eat when he started complaining about being very hot. I opened the windows but he kept complaining about being hot. He then tore his shirt off and was gasping for air. He said" I cant breathe" and was calling for his mother to help him. I was high tailing it to the hospital doing 80mph cause when i called 911 they had put us on hold . (A damn shame). It took me 10 minutes to get to the hospital. When i arrived at emergency I ran in there screaming "help help my husband is having a heart attack"!. He went into a seizure foaming at the mouth. They put him on the table trying to rececitate him but after 25 minutes they were unsuccessful. My husband was suffering for a long time and he wanted me to be with him always. I'm glad I was there to try to help him..... After 25 minutes they had to call his time of death. May Derrick Ramey R.I.P. I'm gonna miss you so very much.....Now you don't have to suffer anymore.... I was diagnosed with end stage heart failure at 44yrs. Had pacemaker defibrillator installed with EF factor of only 15 percent. In 2014 the Dr's wanted to install a VAD. This is an external heart pump. I refused! Now at 61 I'm still doing well! I go canoe camping and alot of portageing! I enjoy life and hope this brings a little encouragement to others out there! I take care of my wife…about ten years. She is 80. Bed ridden .She has a few of these symptoms … a few. Sleeps a lot. Swollen ankles… slow decline in appetite. But alert, loves sweets and no pain. I watch her like a hawk. But I am 83…slowing down bit. She is happy on the whole.

It is wonderful you are taking care of her so well. It is great she is not in pain, is alert and still has the joy of eating sweets. I was caregiver for my dear husband when he was dying from cancer. Then later I was caregiver for my elderly dad for a number of years until he passed away at 91. Though at times it was exhausting and heartbreaking, I am grateful for the privilege of being able to care for them until the end.

My local GP diagnosed me with heart failure on the basis of swollen ankles.
No BP or pulse measurement, no blood tests, no history other than my date of birth.
At the time I was cycling 15 miles/day and as fit as a fiddle.
15 years later, I'm still not dead and the oedema in the lower legs was caused by a thyroid problem.

I know this doesn’t really make a terribly sad situation any better but sometimes it’s better to die of a heart issue than to live til an old age and get dementia. My mom is 90 and has moderate dementia - she is aware of it and she hates it - she’s ready to go. There is longevity on both sides of my family but honestly if I could just go in my late 70s, or when I can’t get around too well anymore, that would be ideal. But God has a plan for all of us and I trust Him and know that He will do what is best.

My husband died of heart failure and CAD 10 years ago. At the time I didn't understand what he was going through. Near the end, he had no appetite, would not eat anything. That really bothered me, as I blamed myself that the food I was preparing wasn't what he wanted or needed. Near the end, he was sleeping most of the time. I always expected that he would get better. Very good video but I have had Atrial Fibrillation for decades and was diagnosed with "congestive heart failure" 25 years ago and I'm still here. Last year I was short of breath and had a wheeze but a very good doctor prescribed 1mg Bumentanide, 10mg Dapagliflozin and 5mg Bisoprolol Fumerate on top of the 3mh Warfarin and 20mg Enalapril I take daily, which seems to have given me a new lease of life. Being told you have "heart failure" is enough to frighten some people to death but I'm now in my eighties and keep working physically, which I think is a recipe for staving off the problem. Perhaps I shall be proved wrong but I hope to be still alive in at least five year's time.

I got a new heart...that ended my heart failure. 😊 You may also get a sharpe pain in the center of the back through chest. I had that because the fluid was backing up in my lungs. Alleviated that by meds for releasing the fluid--diuretics. Thankfully as a youth I was a runner so I believe that primed my body to hold out for twenty years before I got the transplant. My appetite left, I was eating one small container of yogurt a day, would get out of bed in the morning, go downstairs, eat, watch tv, use the bathroom and go back upstairs at night. Your body does get used to doing things in slowmo though, so as long as I paced myself I didn't have lot of issues until the end. A few times my heart began stopping as I was slowly walking upstairs and I would go to my knees--mostly from dizziness--with my head lower than my heart, pound on my chest with a fist and breath deep and slow. Within a few seconds the vice I felt around my chest would ease and my breathing and heartbeat would correct. God had other plans for me though and I am so appreciative for the time.❤️

My husband is on end of life hospice.. No one actually said it was CHF. All we knew is Oct 2023 he had a transplant and his heart passed all the tests. After he came home, they found a herniated intestine they had to fix. Then he got a UTI. Then, his heart could no longer pump blood from his feet to the rest of his body. I think his nurse thought we knew all the symptoms. After hours of straight coughing last night I ran across this so finally have answers so can better help him.

My wife of 57 years just died on January 29th. This video explains a LOT that her doctor should have explained. I was also blaming myself for not taking more initiative and pushing for better care. Maybe we could have had another year or two. Neither of us understood just how serious was her condition. Life is full of maybe, maybe, maybe.

Well, my mother passed around the Holidays of 2023, and she had CHF too -- but it was well-managed. However, she had some stomach pains, and I should have taken her to hospital ... But, like you say, I didn't know that her having a "very mild" stomach pain, could be a sign of something else. Yet, I gave her pepto and it seemed to make her tummy feel better. So, I called nurseline and they said to bring her in -- in few days -- if it "doesn't get better". Well, next day, Mum said it was better, so I didn't take her in. But, she ate, drank fluids, and everything normal. Then, she passed over the weekend of that week -- right at Christmas Eve. So, point is, @Nemo, you might could have had more time, and you might not could have either. In your situation, you did nothing wrong -- coming from someone who keeps going through the "shoulda, coulda, woulda" daily. So, don't fault yourself. You kept her alive to that date, as I did my Mum, and we both shouldn't blame ourselves. Because the disease or condition did it, not us. Do you know what I mean?

@@PoeLemic Thank you. You are correct. We may not be doctors but doctors also make mistakes. Our bodies are always sending us messages. Every little ache and pain means something, sometimes important, sometimes insignificant. A correct diagnosis can often be very important. I had an appointment with my doctor yesterday and we can communicate with each other. We also agreed that preventing a major medical event isn't as dramatic as a life-saving operation but is often more important. Oh, I also promised to follow his instructions this time.

Does anyone remember that scene from Soylent Green featuring Edward G. Robinson's character wherein his final moments at the Euthanasia Center are depicted? The facility is grand and impressive, sterile, and well appointed, with the feel of an upscale Airport Departure Terminal. After checking in and paying dearly with his life savings, he's led into his temporary private "departure lounge" clutching his "ticket" along with the exciting color brochure describing the whole adventure. He's awestruck by the sheer scale, opulence, and grandeur of his surroundings, as he's led along through wide, pristine, high-arched rooms and corridors. Upon reaching his private room - his point of embarkation, he's instructed to lie down on a comfortable upholstered table, amidst the ambiance of soft lighting and soothing classical music. Compared to the grinding poverty and squalor he's always known, such beauty represents to him the pinnacle of unimagined opulence. Looking all around with his mouth agape, trying to take it all in like a boy at his first carnival, he gratefully hands the technician his boarding pass to paradise.
When prompted, he mindfully sits on the table and begins to lay back, but then suddenly he pauses with hesitation and a look of doubt. We wonder: Has he come to his senses? No. On the contrary. Now earnestly looking up at her, his smile wiped clean, he asks with some urgency, "A full 30 minutes! I'll get a full 30 minutes?" Yes, she assures him, gently easing him the rest of the way down. Now fully satisfied, his smile returned and fixed, he settles into the soft pillow, as bright colorful images of the former natural world dance upon the large viewing screen before him. He watches in joyful amazement as another technician administers the palliative injection. Soon the medication takes hold, and he closes his eyes at last, yet strangely for the first time with a look of peace upon this face which until now has known only the twisted torment of toxicity. This is perhaps the most poignantly ironic moment in the entire film. After about a minute, the music and video end abruptly, as bright lights switch on. Two male technicians appear and hastily remove the remains, while two others prepare the room for the next guest.
Shortly thereafter, we're shown the back of the huge complex, which has a very industrial look about it. A line of very large garbage trucks are seen one by one entering a loading area and being filled by a descending conveyer with what appear to be human body bags. After being filled, each truck drives off and disappears into the night. Toward the end of the film, we finally learn the destination of these trucks and that of their precious organic cargo. It's all very orderly, sanitary, efficient, humane, profitable, and covertly done right in the open. I haven't seen the film since it came out in the 1970s, but this is how I remember it.
Somehow, I get this same sick morbid feeling from the modern "Death Care" industry and its practitioners. Too harsh?

Wrong wrong wrong. Hospice is composed of genuine caring registered nurses and nursing assistants who are simply a go between for you and your doctor, keeping him/her informed constantly of any changes in your condition in case you need changes in your meds or treatments. They simply provide the whole time, everything you might need, free for you. I know. I was a Hospice RN and a good one, for a long time.

    • @arsartium108
      @arsartium108 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@joycehandersonfriends3225 "Is composed?" So every one of them can be described as selfless, humane, professional, and good? There are no bad nurses? There are no bad doctors? There are no medical professionals participating in euthanasia anywhere? A full 100% of the 87% of the C19 patients who've died when given deadly drugs and intubation would have died anyway? This is both wrong and naive. according to many good doctors and nurse whistleblowers that have come forward to tell us about the bad ones within their profession.
How many nurses have been tried and convicted for deliberately ending patients? How many didn't get caught? Many, I can tell you that. How many people died during C19 because hospitals and doctors received huge bonuses and incentives for administering deadly protocols that any moron could see was killing patients who didn't need to die? And don't get me started on those repulsive Tik Tok nurses. What a disgrace.
How many pedophiles have been caught at Disney World? MANY. Why do you suppose we find so many of them there? Is it because pedophiles naturally gravitate to where the kids are? Of course. So don't be surprised when we find psychos flocking to nursing, particularly into Hospice. I know for a fact that Hospice administers Midazolam and other life-ending drugs according to a regimen that more or less guarantees end of life within weeks, at most months after entering hospice. It's euphemistically called palliative care, but it's really just state-sanctioned euthanasia administered through the private sector, just like censorship and every other privation of our God-given rights.

Few years later at 37 had emergency open heart surgery 5 bypass. While recovering from that about 6 months out. Everything started getting worse. I figured it was complications from heart surgery. I could breathe. Or take 5 steps without going down. Went to doctor. He ran some tests. Again. 6 months after the bypass it failed. 4 of the 5 was 99 percent blocked. He said the whole right side of heart had failed. And bottom. He put it about 85 percent failed. 4 more heart attacks 7 hospital visits after and they kept sending me home. With no awnser. I have been in end stage close 2 years. I went to doctor last week. He is sending me to KU med Heart Transplant team. If they help me great. If not Hospice. I'm only 42

Hello my first born son has been diagnosed with Heart Failure and has had a pacemaker and defibrillator inserted in his chest. We went and got a 2nd opinion from a Professor at Nepean Hospital, Kingswood NSW Australia. My son is only 45yo. He was fine until he was made have the COVID vaccines 1st one was because he couldn't work, and he ended up so ill for 10 days and lost his job anyway. The 2nd time he was made get the COVID shot was because he was homeless and the Refuge would not allow him to enter without the shot. He ended up being put in an emergency hostel for 10 days. He has never been the same. He was short of breath and thought it was panic attacks until he got to the point that he called the ambulance and it was only then that he was told that his heart was at 16% function, and if it dropped to 10% he would be dead. Anyway, that was 9th November 2023. I am very worried for him. He had to move back home as he lost his job and became homeless. He doesn't like living at home with his parents as he wants his own place to have some peace. I dont know what I can do to help him at all.

One of the nice things about Hospice is that they can get you anything you need free. Example: a free hospital bed for when you can no longer lie flat to breathe. They also will know when you need your medication changed to help you. If and when you are close to the end and suffering, panic to get air from every breath, they can give you meds to greatly relieve that suffering. With Hospice, lot of folks choose to die at home too. I know. I was a Hospice RN for a long time.

I'm 71 years old and don't expect to experience any of the symptoms presented, since I've performed low impact cardio exercises for the last 40 years and take 15 high quality micronutrients every day, including 1 tablespoon of First Cold Pressed Virgin Olive Oil before bed every night. 😊

My oldest brother will be 76 soon. As I text, he is in the hospital. He has had 2 heart stints and a leg stint implanted already. He has probably 5-6 of these signs listed. This was vital info to know. I will be filling out derivative forms asap. Thank you.

I was diagnosed with CHF about 20 years ago. 5 years ago I learned I have Polycystic Kidney Disease and COPD. I learned of Dr Esselstein’s books on heart disease and how you can feel so much better and even reverse heart disease with a plant based diet of zero oil, zero sugar and zero salt, and no animal products. I follow his way of eating. Yes, it is a strict diet but his recipes as well as his families’ recipes are very good. My cardiologist and nephrologist recommend this way of eating also. There is not too much that the Drs can do for CHF, but meds. For PKD there really isn’t anything either, even less than for heart disease. So, look into it, as it could very well help you too.

I have a friend that is a diabetic with bad kidneys and heart problems. She is also a heavy smoker and doesn't comply with doctor recommendations, drinks Dr. PEPPER AND SWEET TEA. Last blood sugar check a couple of weeks back...405...on a recent visit her face was Grey and she had severe nausea, ended the visit and went to bed. Have not been able to convince her to get medical care. She can hardly walk and feet do swell often....bottom of feet numb.

I have had 11 of the 13 symptoms. Chest pain and nausea excluded. I was admitted to an ICU where the plural effusion I had was drained and I received a positive inotrope plus diuretic. That was six years ago. I had a mild heart attack since then (a year and a half ago) but since then have made a slow recovery. I can't do the things I sued to but I don't overdo things. I am much better now and hope to see my 75th birthday in December.

I found this list very depressing. I have experienced some of these symptoms but with medication I have been able to get rid of excess water with Lasix, and other meds to control blood pressure. I was having coughing spells and breathing issues until I got rid of the excess fluids. Now I don’t cough and am breathing normally. I am 81 years old, and knew a lady who had many heart issues from the time she was 75. She lived to be 99 years old, just a couple of weeks short of being 100. So there are people who do have a long life if they take care of their heart as much as possible! I just pray that I will. E one of them!

Any questions she says, my husband was diagnosed with end-stage heart failure and renal disease. How much 6 years ago we've been up-and-down this roller coaster now for 6 years with hospice in attendance
I don't know how much longer I can take it. He's a he's had every symptom that you mention. And then he gets better and then he gets worse.
It seems that nobody knows what's going on, especially me!

Yes, it's tough and very unpredictable. I did the same as you with my Mum since 2017 when she fell and couldn't live alone anymore. Trust me. You are not alone. Sorry that it's been a hell, but I lived it too. It's really been difficult and so hard on me, and there just doesn't seem to be any support from other people. Seems like others just let you live your life in misery and don't really reach out to you much. So, I do know how you feel. I hope my words have given you some comfort, because it's happening to me too. And, not easy just to live your own life anymore, because caring for someone else, really takes so much effort and willpower.

And the icing on the cake is they tell you the patient may and probably will die suddenly ,therefore you never have another moment of peace you have no life, you can,t breath, you can't plan, your life is on hold could there be a worse hell imaginable? I live in constant fear of waking up with a corpse.

In 2019 I was told I have Chronic Heart Failure. This is due to a DNA defect or genes. A few months ago I was told the left side of my heart has now started to give up. It pumps every now and then and when it does pump it is very week. I took a nuclear test and they found the blood was flowing into my lungs at a rate of 106 mil-a-bars. Fatigue is getting worse. I am now sleeping a lot in the afternoons. But I refuse to slow down. Last year I rode or pedaled my bicycle 4100 miles. I should mention I am also recovering after being hit by a truck riding said bicycle Nov 1st of 2022. It was in the down time from this accident the left side of my heart has grown weaker. I am told do not stop exercising for this is the only thing keeping me alive. I am 64. Now I understand the fatigue. I keep telling my doctor and she says nothing about it. But I get it, I would not want to tell someone your days are running short. But thank you for this information is what I was looking for. I also get chest pains a lot.

My heart almost stopped about 18 months ago, I was in hospital and my heart rate plummeted to between 15 and 18 beats per minute. Next day i had a pacemaker inserted just under my skin and feel better, but ... I have noticed some of the symptoms stated here, such as fatigue, breathlessness at times, slight weight gain, and strange thing is I've started coughing, even though I have been a non smoker my whole life. This could also be cos i play darts with a group of smokers, three times a week. My youngest son is a drug addict and I am very worried about him which is not good for my heart. I have a good appetite though. Thanks for this information. ❤

A cough. The cough is like a dry heave. Sweats even when the room is cold. Chest pain a lot like you slept on the wrong side but are unable to relieve the pain by stretching and movement that typically helps. My symptom just before I drove the ER. In the ER my BP skyrocketed. More chest pain that medications did not touch. Once nitroglycerin was taken the pain subsided. After meeting a cardiologist in the ER my heart failed and I died. Paddles brought me back and I was rushed to surgery for a heart stent. That was over 13 years ago. Still alive and enjoying life.

Interestingly enough, several years ago I read of a study that focused on the phycological effect of telling people that they only had so much time left, before they died.
Sadly, I don't remember all the details, but recall that some people, upon only hearing that they had a certain period to live, ended up surrendering to the idea, and did die, with otherwise no serious health issues !
And this seems to play on some, more than other's !
Point being, the power of suggestion is very powerful !
Especially if given by someone you respect, and you may feel has authority over you !
    Mark 11:24
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
    Don't believe everything you're told !
Just as in some of the comments here !
People out live their death sentence imposed by their Doctor !
    Stay strong and believe !

Thanks for your comment. Best one that l found. You are very correct. People do psyche themselves out, and hurry off to die, just because somebody said so..l had never been to a doctor in my life, but at 70 yrs lhad à shortage of breath, so l went in, congenital heart failure they said,l might live a year or less ,handed me a prescription for 3 different pills, totaling over $200.. which l never filled, now I'm 83 yrs, work every day at hard jobs. Never give dying a thought. God Bless! Thanks! 🙏🌈
