Queen Fun Fact: On Another One Bites the Dust... despite what is shown on the video, Brian's only contribution to the guitar parts was the "weird sounds" (the revving, followed by the kind "spaceship" effect) utilizing the unique qualities of his homemade guitar The Red Special. The rest of the rhythmic electric guitar parts, as well as the iconic bass line, were played by bassist John Deacon -- John is himself a quite skilled guitarist and often played the rhythm parts on studio recordings alongside Brian's leads. (NOTE : Brian *did* play the guitar parts on live performances of this ... but he himself said he'd had to work really hard on learning and mastering the style for this song)
This was actually Queen's biggest selling single (written by Queen''s secret weapon John Deacon), which only got released as a single because Micheal Jackson convinced them it would be a hit. It reached number 1 in the Billboard top 10 and stayed in that chart for 31 weeks, it also reached number 2 in both the Hot Soul Singles chart and the Disco Top 100 chart. It would appear the M.J. could recognize a hit when he heard it.
Queen has tons of hits. They have a massive catalog. Check out Stone Cold Crazy live at the Rainbow 1974 and White Queen live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975. It's hard to pick a favorite Queen song but I think this Hammersmith performance of White Queen is probably my favorite. I love the musical interlude between Brian and Freddie. The musicianship among these guys is just incredible. So talented!
Freddie designed Queen's Logo. It is built on the astrologic signs of the four band members. Two lions for Roger and John (Leo), a crab for Brian (Cancer) and two fairies for Freddie (Virgo). Freddie had a degree in Design, Fashion and Advertising. John said that originally this song was supposed to be funny, about cowboys actually biting the dust but the song came out much heavier than he had originally thought so he changed the lyrics to be about the St. Valentines Day Massacre.
John and Freddie shared a love for funk. Fun to pair the known tunes with the lessor known gems when exploring genre styles. COOL CAT (Queen official lyric video) and DRAGON ATTACK (Live at Montreal) are two contrasting takes on this same path.
Oh yeah. Two more older live performances that are also great are by Queen. "White Queen" live with serious kickass vocals and a long hardcore jam on instruments and "Stone Cold Crazy" live.
That awesome bass line was greatly inspired by Chic's song Good Times. It was also used in the first famous rap song called Rapper's Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang. All 3 of these songs are iconic
i miss John Deacon! He was an incredible musician! I always wished he would resurface.... This was my first concert ever for this album. Queen was AMAZING!!!!
Infectious beat, iconic is the right word. And Freddie - also iconic. This beat reminds me of another song with iconic beat - WHITE STRIPES song "Seven Nation Army". Meg White's drumbeat get right under your skin and Jack White's guitar work is fire!
Summer 1988, Marine Corps Boot Camp, Parris Island... had a drill instructor who loved this song. Whenever someone would drop from our platoon this DI would do the inventory to make sure the person leaving had everything needed to go to their next platoon. During the inventory he'd find a can of something (brass polish, spray starch, etc) and bang it of the table... THUMP...THUMP...THUMP and we all had to sing "Another One Bites The Dust"
White Queen at Hammersmith Odeon 1975 is my favorite version of any Queen song. Their catalog is so extensive, I don’t think I can pick a favorite. Love it all! Loved your reaction, keep up the great work!
Had the pleasure of seeing Queen open up for Mott the Hoople at the Uris Theater on Broadway in Times Square, May '74. Fantastic evening of theatrical rock and roll. Queen great ones - "Keep Yourself Alive", "Liar", "Now I'm Here", "Killer Queen", "Brighton Rock". You can probably tell that I'm partial to the early stuff. I hope Biz considers some Mott the Hoople also in the future. "The Golden Age of Rock and Roll."
@@lydiajoy1823 Here's Queen's setlist from the night that I saw them on Broadway. "Another One Bites the Dust" dropped when I was heading into eighth grade. The song was all over pop radio for several months, but I was growing away from dance music at the time, so "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" from that same album was more my speed. They dropped "Under Pressure" the following year. I remember hearing "Killer Queen" on the radio when I was still a little kid, and "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions" in grade school. Kids have been stomping out "We Will Rock You" on bleachers since the moment Queen dropped it in 1977. Freddie Mercury shines on "Another One Bites the Dust" as always, but for me the work Roger Taylor and John Deacon put into it, the ease mostly, provides the foundation without which Mercury wouldn't have flown so fast, to play out a pun on his surname.
The same for me but a year younger I think. I saved up to buy a Walkman knock off just for tapes. That was the first cassette I bought and listed to it all that summer as I rode my bike for miles to hang out with friends in town.
I was 9 when this song came out and it was so huge, even a little kid like me became aware of it. I mean, Alvin and The Chipmunks covered it that same year! I begged my parents to buy me this album and they eventually did - got it and their other huge album, A Night at the Opera, on vinyl for Christmas 1980. My little brother and I wore those albums out in the following years! Queen is still one of my favorite bands.
Another reworded version of this song coming out in 1980 was the .... Weird Al Yankovic parody version titled - - Another one * Rides the Bus....LOL I remember working night-shift stocking shelves and in 1980 81 remember .... the Weird Al version played like every night on the radio station we listened to for some reason I never forget and never heard since, or reacted to, or played on oldies/all 80s FM radio I still listen to in my car.
Yo Biz, great reaction.. Queen is s awesome Group. Their catalog is heavy and deep. My two favorite songs by Queen has got to be " crazy little thing called love" snd " who wants to live forever " when you listen to Freddie Mercury remember this was before Auto Tune. These great singers had Talent and didn't need Auto Tune. like some of these manufactured singers now days. Long live Real music.
Like several Rock bands of the 1970s they came up with a song that was danceable so they can cash in on the current Disco trend of the era and ended up with one of their all time classics that still gets played these days on Rock radio.
First, love your reaction Biz!! Second, you asked how big was Queen... they're right up there with Zeppelin!💯Slightly different vibe, but the same greatness!!💯💯💯 Even Robert Plant has said (on recorded video footage) that he takes his hat off to Queen and Freddie!!👊 Look it up, Robert seriously gave it up to Queen. Freddie was such a light in this shitty world. Love that to this day, and loved ur reaction so much!!! 😊 As always... you rock Biz!!! Love ya!😎❤
This is Queen’s Disco song and it’s my favorite Queen song ❤ 🔥. A lot of rock groups at the time did a disco song; Rolling Stones did “Miss You”, Kiss did “I Was Made For Loving You”, Rod Stewart did “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy”; ALL of these songs are Fire, Biz!!! Long live Disco, to the haters that say Disco Sucks, I say you’re just jealous that you can’t dance. Boo Yah!!!❤
Other songs from Queen you could react to are: "My Best Friend", " A Little Thing Called Love", "Somebody to Love", "Under Pressure" (duet with David Bowie), and so many more...
In 1980 when it came out the Detroit Lions will having a streak and they played that during the game! And they started losing they played it again when they lost bruise really bad, but through it all I’m still a Lions fan!
Glad you've gotten back to this amazing group of musicians. You have to remember all of the members wrote hits, so the standards for choosing material for an album were very high. They had one rule, whoever wrote the song got the final say. I dare say John (Bassist/Writer) made the call to keep Brian May (Rock Guitar) out of the track. Queen were the first group to be inducted into the songwriters Hall of Fame. Fun fact: John Deacon's bass line was inspired by "Good Times" by the disco group Chic. th-cam.com/video/RLTDpewIpfw/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=MASTERMUSICBOX In an interview with NME, Chic co-founder Bernard Edwards stated, "That Queen record came about because that Queen bass player ... spent some time hanging out with us at our studio."
That is the Music Man bass I was telling you about! hear how forward the bass sounds? You can spot the bass by the oval pickguard with a giant pickup in the center.
so many great songs by queen. how can you suggest one without leaving a dozen out? for an all out rocker i'd suggest "stone cold crazy". for a softer ballad "love of my life". for something a bit more psychodelic try "the prophet's song" or "innuendo". just a few of my favorites.
Michael Jackson told Queen to record this song and that it would be a hit. Roger Taylor & Brian May were unsure. My favorite Queen song is Somebody to Love but it's hard to pick one. I attended their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are on the Mount Rushmore of Rock in my eyes.
Thanks, Biz! Live performances are also awesome... (in this one we can see that Roger Taylor can drum & chew gum at the same time -lol - just kidding, he is amazing with his vocals while drumming) -- look forward to more from you...
Iconic group and iconic bass line. John Deacon could come up with some great ones, that is for sure. Thank you for all the great reactions to this iconic group! They had so many great hits.
Here's a group you should checkout no reaction video or maybe. The group is called Gangstagress the song is- you can never go home again. It's bluegrass and two brothers down and start laying down the rhymes. I don't know how they did it but it worked. I love going to music festivals all summer. Hey. I just found your channel & subscribed. I like your reactions. Another fantastic Video is Queen...Live at Milton Keynes. The song is Fat Bottom Girls
In the early nineties I had an original copy of this album on vinyl and decided to play it backwards. Another one bites the dust has a backwards message. It says it's fun to smoke marijuana, marijuana, marijuana. It's fun to smoke marijuana, just take a hit. No, I wasn't high! 😁 I've actually come across a few other people who know this,so it's not just me.
As the story goes - Michael Jackson was backstage when Queen was warming up playing this . he convinced them it was a hit .
I never knew that! How cool can you get? Not much cooler! I love it!
Great little piece of trivia, never knew that-I could definitely hear MJ doing this tune
No they didn’t want to release this song an micheal told them you’s better that’s a hit.. they listened an rest was history..

Queen is top 10 for sure of all time! They could play anything, and Freddie could sing the Alphabet and make it sound like a hit!
Freddie Mercury was IMHO the greatest front man of any band in the last 50 years and he died 30+ years ago.
No.
There are two GOAT-groups: The Beatles and Queen.
The rest is inferior.
