At my grandmother's funeral, my hubby was very ill. When we got to the cemetery, he decided to sit in the car due to his illness. He happened to turn on the radio (forgetting how loud it was) at the exact moment they were lowering her into the ground. All we heard is "Another one gone and another one bites the dust" 😂 I think it was my granny's way of giving us a sign. 🙂

    Short story about this song:
They used to call Micheal Jackson to get advice on the sounds to include in their albums, Michael for his part was a fan of theirs and often went to their concerts, they often met backstage and he listened to their songs including this one, every time that MJ was shaking his head up and down means he liked the song.
At first they weren't very convinced about this song, but MJ said: you absolutely have to release it, you don't have a danceable song like this, you have to put it out.

I'm a 60 year old woman, and I still remember the first time I heard this song. I just came home from school, and was getting the vacuum ready to vacuum the living room and I had the stereo on, listening to the radio.
The DJ said something "Here we have a new one from Queen" And this song started to play. I held off with the vacuuming - it was odd back then hearing a song that was mostly just drum/clapping and no traditional melody with pianos and rhythm guitars and such.
Also as soon as this song ended...then immediately, the song We Are The Champions was played. For a long time, that was how theses songs were played, almost as if they were 1 song.
The next day at high school...there was a LOT of talk about this song...we all loved it!

Not only was this a number one hit, it reached number one in multiple charts (some of which had never featured a Queen song before), was Queen's biggest selling single ever.
And wouldn't have been released as a single if Micheal Jackson hadn't convinced the band that it would be a hit.
Just one more hit from the unassuming John Deacon (bass player).

@ABtheKreator While the band and producer Reinhold Mack were mixing the track, Brian May's roadie suggested it to be released as single; the band didn't like the idea but were finally talked into doing it when Michael Jackson, after a concert, suggested the same idea, as Michael, & Freddie Mercury were really close Friends!

@ABtheKreator REALLY REALLY FUN FACT: During production of the movie Rocky III, this was used in a key scene where Rocky is training for a fight. Producers could not get permission to use the song, so Sylvester Stallone hired Survivor to write an original song instead, which turned out to be "Eye Of The Tiger."

Written by Queen bassist John Deacon, the secret sauce of the band! Michael Jackson loved it so much he encouraged Queen to release it as a single. “That’s it, that’s the gravy” declared MJ. Freddie & MJ were friends I & recorded 3 demos together at Michael’s home studio! According to Freddie while scratching his head, couldn’t figure out why Michael slept in the middle of his floor mansion!! 😂 Anyway, one of those demos was released called THERE MUST BE MORE TO LIFE THAN THIS.

The studio version here is the gritty sound John & Freddie wanted. I like Queen and their funk/soul/dance vibe. Less well known tunes in this group include DRAGON ATTACK (live at Montreal) and COOL CATS (Queen official lyric video only). But promise to turn up the sound on COOL CATS - you'll want that bass line!

This song was composed by Queen bassist, John Deacon (aka Deacy). Deacy was always into R&B, Soul, and Disco music but when he brought this song to the band, neither Roger nor Brian were enthusiastic. It took Freddie pushing them to get them to agree to record it. According to Mack (Reinhold Mack Queen's producer) the recording sessions for "Another One Bites The Dust: consisted of Deacy playing almost all instruments: bass guitar, piano, electric guitar, and handclaps. Roger Taylor added a drum loop and Brian May contributed noises with his guitar and an Eventide Harmonizer.
Brian tells a story about Deacy, who doesn't sing, trying to tell Freddie how to sing this song. Deacy tried but couldn't really demonstrate what he wanted to hear from Freddie but Freddie understood clearly what Deacy wanted and kept saying, "Yeah, yeah, I get it".
Brian comment about "Another Bites The Dust", "A fantastic bit of work from Freddie really. I mean, I remember Deacy having this idea, but Deacy doesn't sing of course, so he was trying to suggest to Freddie how it should be and Fred just went in there and hammered and hammered until his throat bled, making... you know, he really was inspired by it and took it to a new height, I think"
The band did include "Another One Bites The Dust" in their playlist for their American tour but the song had not been released as a single. During the tour, they performed it in a concert in Los Angeles. Michael Jackson, who was a big Queen fan and a friend of Freddie's always came to their concerts.
M.J. came backstage after the show and he was all excited. He loved "Another Bites The Dust" and told them they had to release it as a single. John and Freddie thought it was a great idea but Roger and Brian took some convincing. It was so different from their other tracks but evidently, they released it as a single.
“Another One Bites the Dust” took the world by storm when they released it. The song became a hit in 17 countries, but nowhere larger than in the United States, where it became the biggest-selling Queen record ever, topping both the Pop and Disco charts, as well as reaching #2 on the Soul chart.
FYI - Did you notice Freddie's "magical" cap in the video? Sometimes it's white, sometimes yellow, sometimes blue.

@ABtheKreator AGAIN, THIS IS A GREAT STORY...Queen were originally reluctant to release this as a single, but backstage after a Queen gig at the Los Angeles forum, a visiting Michael Jackson convinced them it would be a hit. "Michael and all his brothers were all going, 'That's a fantastic track. You must release it,'" recalled Queen drummer Roger Taylor to Q magazine December 2009.
This meeting lead to several recordings and collaborations between Freddie Mercury and Jackson, all of which remain unreleased

@ABtheKreator Queen bass player John Deacon wrote this song. All four members of Queen wrote songs, and each wrote at least one hit. Deacon also wrote "You're My Best Friend."
Deacon was influenced by the Chic song Good Times. In an interview with the New Musical Express, Chic bass player Bernard Edwards said: "Well, that Queen record came about because that bass player spent some time hanging out with us at our studio. But that's OK. What isn't OK is that the press started saying that we had ripped them off! Can you believe that? 'Good Times' came out more than a year before, but it was inconceivable to these people that black musicians could possibly be innovative like that. It was just these dumb disco guys ripping off this rock 'n' roll song."
Deacon ALSO played most of the instruments on the track: lead and rhythm guitars, bass, reversed piano and additional percussion. Brian May did some guitar effects with harmoniser (in the interlude), and Roger Taylor played the drum loop. Surprisingly, there are no synthesizers.
The drum track and the hand claps were looped. They repeat throughout the song.
