Rammstein is often doing a play on words which have a double meaning in german. Regarding to this song you can " listen/read " it in two ways. That " Du hast " would mean " You have ". But " Du hasst " ( with two s ) means " You hate ". But only when the whole sentence is sung, you realize the exact meaning. Because only singing " Du has(s)t " can mean both but once that whole sentence is sung: " Du hast mich gefragt... " ( meaning: " You have asked me..." ) the real meaning becomes clear. The false lead comes also by singing and repeating " Du has(s)t mich. " This sentence alone would mean " You hate me ". But following it with " Du hast mich.....gefragt " it changes towards " You have asked me..." -vonStahlmach
I was going to say the same thing about how it's a play on words in German where it switches between you have me or you hate me and that changes the context of the entire line depending on how your listening to it. And that the "you have me" version is also a play on German wedding vows. But really you guys explained it better.
Im black 65 years old not many of us listen to heavy metal but I have for decades but RAMMSTIEN wow!!! That's what you call music at it's best will be going to see them soon
I had the privilege of seeing Rammstein live like 20 years ago. It is even more epic in person, you can feel the concussion and heat from the pyrotechnics. If you ever have the chance to see them, DO IT, even if metal isn't really your vibe.
I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium before they were selling out arenas. They may not have had the epic production like they do now, but to see them that close was absolutely insane. I was glad my head is shaved, put it that way.
Seen Rammstein 4 times. If you get the chance, see them live. Amazing live events. And yeah you can definitely feel the heat of all that fireworks. Lol
It doesn’t matter your race, ethnicity, culture, geolocation. If you’ve never seen Rammstein live you haven’t seen a performance. Im black, 47 years old, and a head banger for life. Check out some of there other videos. Deutschland, Adieu, and Angst. Their catalog is outstanding. And their lyrics are usually controversial with a sobering truth.
Im a german so i went ahead and translated the lyrics properly: the "du, du hast" part of the song has two "interpretations". First one would be to translate "du hast" to "you have" however it can also mean "du hasst" which translates to "you hate" the pre-chorus: here, the "du hast" is translated to "you have" and the full translation would sound like this: "you, you have, you have me, you have me, you have asked me, you have asked me, you have asked me and I said nothing" the chorus would then be: "do you want until death seperates you be loyal to her for all days?" the female voice is singing "ja" which translates to "yes" so we have "(yes) NO! (yes) NO!" and then that once more the next parts of the song are what i just translated so the only other thing would be in the last chorus: "do you want until death seperates you be loyal to her for all days? (yes) NO! (yes) NO!" and then the "new" part: "do you want until deaths seperation, to love her even on bad days?" and then thats basically it. oh and the last little part: "Willst du bis der Tod euch scheidet Treu ihr seiiiiiiin" translates to "Do you want until death separates you, to be faithfuuuuuuuuuuuuul" edit: and of course the "mich" in the first part "me"
Thanks for the translation, I am forced to wonder if the band was recording a darker version when they released an English version where he says “I Hate”. Would love to know the reasoning for the difference
It makes a lot more sense now that I am trying to learn German. People have explained this to me in the past, that the two words sound similar I never quite understood what people meant when they’d say that, I just accepted it. Hate and have. I notice they have other lyrics like that now too. Like I was listening to Stein Um Stein also the other day and I realized why one of the lines is so strange because they wanted to say Ram Stein within the song I should have learned German years ago. This is my favorite band. and I failed at learning French in the past and thought I just sucked generally. It’s not easy to me, your nouns gendered and word order is different. I am not good at languages. I really have to try. I don’t understand certain things (How the heck does Ich mochte mean I would like to?) but I love the way it sounds spoken.
My son and I went to the show in Los Angeles in 2022. By far one of the best shows ever! And the pyrotechnics are REAL AF! The entire stadium can feel the heat no matter where you're standing or sitting
I've seen Rammstein live 8 times now. We've followed them from small gigs to Stadiums. And they keep getting better and better. Their show is outstanding. The singer, Till, is now a trained pyrotechnician because of all the fire stunts he performs.
""The band was named after one of their earliest songs, "Ramstein", written after the air show disaster at the American airbase in Ramstein. According to the band, people started to refer to them as "the band with the 'Ramstein song'" and later as the "Ramstein band"" My friends' dad was working Military Police duty at that air show in 1988. He can barely talk about it. A stunt went wrong and 2 jet airplanes crashed head on, and the giant fireball landed directly on the spectators. 31 dead instantly, another 39 in the days that followed. Hundreds of people went to hospital afterwards for minor injuries. Jet fuel can melt your skin from hundreds of feet away when that much burns at once. The song lyrics paint the picture well. Rammstein A man is burning Rammstein The smell of flesh lies in the air Rammstein A child is dying Rammstein The sun is shining Rammstein A sea of flames Rammstein Blood is coagulating on the asphalt Rammstein Mothers are screaming Rammstein The sun is shining Rammstein A mass grave Rammstein No escape Rammstein No birds are singing anymore Rammstein The sun is shining
The legal handling was a disgrace. That's why the song Deutschland has a lot of meaning for me and I'm not a real Rammstein fan, but the guys can do it. And they always make their critics look like idiots.
I turned 50 last year and my birthday present to myself was floor tickets to the show in San Antonio. My very first concert was KISS when I was 6 (mother couldn't find a babysitter) and I have seen some of the very best in my lifetime. But by far and away, Rammstein has the very best stage show I have ever witnessed. Another thing that struck me was the crowd. I wasn't the oldest, nor the youngest. Their music reaches all ages, races, and faiths. True artists find a way to bring everyone together even if just for a little while.
The Keyboarder namend "Flake" wrote a book about the early years of Rammstein. He. Explains the dark skin of all of the bandmembers based of coffee. Before going in Stage they rubbed themselves with coffee. And Flake became so nervous that he serched for coming down again. What he found for himhelf was the treadmill. Walking while playing helped him. He loves hiking and wandering everywhere they are.
The singer, Till Lindemann, is not only a very good lyricist, but also a trained pyrotechnician. Fire plays an important role from the first day of the foundation of this band. If you want to hear a really emotional lyric from Rammstein, listen to "Wiener Blut" (Vienna blood). And get the English translation of the lyrics beforehand.
Saw them live probably about 20 years ago. He came out of fog in a metal trench coat and goggles with a laser. He got set on fire and started singing! Wasn’t on fire for very long. All I can say is they are one of the best bands I’ve ever been lucky enough to see!
They sell out the madison square garden in 20 minutes !!!!! A german band in america !!!! Their presence on stage is so stunning. It is like an opera. There is nothing comparable in this world. RAMMSTEIN Greetings from germany.
Hi @BlackPegasus, as far as i know, all Band Members have a pyrotechnician certificate, they've obtained it for fun. But now to the lyrics: "bis dass der tod uns scheidet" is used in german for wedding, meaning "forever" or "eternally" until death is divorcing us. The other wordplay they use is "du hast" spelled with single "s" means "you have", and sounds similar, and can therefor be mistaken for "du hasst" spelled with double "s" which means the "s" is just a little bit more aggressively and hissing pronounced, and is translating to "you hate"... Kind regards from a native german speaker in Austria.
You're next Rammstein reaction needs to be Feuer Frei! live That's the song that was used in the opening scene of XXX. A great song off of "Mutter", their best album imo
This song has such a massive energy to it. The DJ played this song at a "Back to College" party my fraternity threw at a hotel back in 1998. As soon as the intro was over and the first big chords were played the kids went absolutely NUTS! The room had a legal capacity of maybe 200 people and we had about 400 people packed into it. Everyone was jumping and dancing to the song, the heat from the crowd was pouring out of the doors and the walls were literally dripping with condensation from the sweat. And these were kids that had never in their lives heard this song and most don't know a word of German. It just proves that great music transcends language.
Randomly came across this video today, what a delightful channel! I just wanted to share a little story about Rammstein: I was born in Italy and at the time it was a pretty conservative area so heavy metal fans were few and far between. I visited my American cousin in England in 1999 as he was travelling with his father and he had the Matrix soundtrack on CD, track 5 was Du Hast by Rammstein. I was 12 years old and after being blown away by the first 4 tracks on the CD i cannot describe the rush of adrenaline that overtook me when this song came on, from that day on, i was hooked on Metal. Fast forward a few years, by this point i had moved to England after my parents separated, at this stage i was constantly at odds with my mother, we visited an old dingy record shop called Scorpion Records in High Wycombe and my mum to cheer my up said "pick any CD you like" so of course i ran to the letter R and looked for Rammstein, i picked the album which contained Du Hast, "Sensucht", the cover had a picture of the bands singer Till with forks and spoons binding his face, i calmly walked back to my mum and said "This, i want this" she looked at me as if to say "you're taking the piss right?" and thinking she was going to embarrass me she went to the counter and told the owner "heh, he wants this whatever it is" the owner looked at me, then looked at her and said "A young connoisseur, fine choice" He rang it through the till and handed the record over with a prideful approving smile. We went home and my mum overcome by curiosity ordered me to put the record on the living room HiFi system to which i complied, I tailored the EQ to compliment the aural assault which would ensue and wacked the volume up ,Track 1, Sensucht comes on, i stand with my back to the HiFi to witness her face melt as the first riff of Richard Z's guitar masterpiece is unleashed. And so 24 years later here i am writing about my first experience with Rammstein. I hope you enjoy them as much as i do.
"Asche zu Asche" from first album "Herzeleid" destroyed my old hifi boxes... the next ones of course were much taller. Also "Sonne" from album Mutter is an absolute beast of Song
Beautiful. There is nothing like a relation to music that is so raw and powerful that you feel like you are actually metamorphosing during a song. I have been fascinated by shamanism a lot and whenever I read about the trance experience I feel like I experienced it many times when dancing on industrial drum and basse heavy music like Reimmstein.Fear Factory or Rage Against the Machine or Ministry....30 years ago.
@@theflyinggasmask how do you know? I would be surprised with these lightnings if it was any other band, but Rammstain... I am not so sure they´d fake that.
@@jokervienna6433 Don't even know where to begin. The short answer is common sense and general knowledge of computer generated effects. I'd rather not go into length explaining every aspect of why its not real, since i have better things to do. But this is the internet... First off, if they actually used tesla coils, there'd be more footage of it on the internet, not just their 1 official music video. Secondly, they're noisy, very noisy, especially with the amount of power needed to create lightning that size. So it would deafen and ruin the sound on stage. Then there's the fact that he is barehanded with no protective equipment. Again, with lightning that size you'd have A LOT of power going through those coils, which would kill you right away unless you had grounding gloves on (or suit). Which is also weird, since it only hits his fingers instead of his head, since they come from above. Then to finish off, there's no coils visible anywhere, and then the fact that the lightning effect LOOKS computer made, there's nothing natural looking about them. Now if all that didn't convince you, here's a video of actual real life performance using tesla coils, showing show much smaller and different the effects are, and the full body protection required: th-cam.com/video/3FpjcOWwiI4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CI4dbSMUnTYcGjAh
@@theflyinggasmask Thank you! I have checked some more stuff out, and it seems to be both. There where Tesla stuff in the concert, but it got enhanced in the video afterwards. No matter what, I wouln´t do it.
Around 11:30 you’re both speechless 😮this is funny as hell. 😂😂 I listen to them since I was 14 and they’re getting old and I really really want to see a live show before they’re too old.
Everything you saw in that video happened live. We saw them in Los Angeles on this last tour, which was amazing. One fun fact, the floor area closest to the stage is known as the Feuerzone (Fire Zone) and by putting yourself there, you acknowledge that you will be subject to excessive heat and possible flash burns.
Amazing thing is this song is over 25 years old and it still kicks serious butt. I've been following these guys since when this song came out, and they're still releasing crazy stuff to this day. For 50 year old rocker they're still going strong and not producing elevator music. Even better, with a few repetitions my high school German lessons get a workout and I can get a lot of the double entendres in the deliberate German/English subtext. While they never sold out by singing in English like some artists they know English well enough (as most Germans do, they're almost all multilingual) to know how to use t to boost their marketability. Du Hast/Du Hasst is totally a play on words, and uses a similarity between have (as in love/relationship) and hate. Like so many English songs, love and hate are flip sides and intertwine together. It's great in German. It's great if you only speak English, too. But if you speak both, however badly like me, it's awesome. Plus, let's be honest, how many Germans get that good a greeting in Paris after two world wars?
Not even 50, till is 60 now and the other members are in their 50s. That makes me sad because I want to see them a lot more before they eventually retire.
I think a lot of their music just would not sound half as good in English as it does in German mainly because Tils voice is just so quintessentially German. The German language is considered harsh sounding by most, and Tills voice is both harsh and beautiful so it's a perfect mashup.
@@eibbor171 I like how German sounds, I know obviously regional accents and so on but mostly I don't find it harsh. However I do understand what you mean and it's always interesting to me how different people interpret different accents (as a generalisation). Like how in Greek it can sound like everyone is angry and shouting but everyone's actually really happy and just chatting! Till's voice is so beautiful though it makes me melt at times lol
His voice is so beautiful. I hate very masculine codes, macho imagery, anything to do with the army and muscle power, I don't really like the German language. Yet when I listen to Du Hast again now on YT something like 25 years after discovering Rammstein...I think it is the most beautiful song ever, his deep Low voice, how it flows and glides, the unusual beating sound, the mass like chorus, I even cry.
@@michaeleckhard763 yes I may try that, if you know of any YT Channel I will give it a go. Yesterday I was at the municipal dump emptying garden stuff and the guy in front of me had a Rammstein t shift and I lowered my window and shouted 'great band, Rammstein !' He didn't know for a second what I was on about then as I drove away I was sure this is why you wear band t shirts : so that other awaken souls put there reach put to you. This is south France, very rural where everybody listens to RnB or rap or some awful French 'music'.
Just listening to the intro to Rammsteins performance just instantly puts a huge grin on my face. Their energy is insane! And the fireworks! Wtf! 😄 I so want to go see them live!
The lightning on the pianist is post production, everything else is real. Edit: Seems that everything is real, including the lightning. But they definitely did some post production on the whole video and enhanced several effects. The difficulty with English lyrics is that that it's a play on the German language: Hassen means "to hate". Haben mean "to have". The second person singular of these verbs is "du hasst" and "du hast". They both sound the same but in the first verse, it's only "Du has(s)t mich", which only makes sense as "You hate me", since "haben" is an auxiliary verb. It needs another verb to make sense and "You hate me" is a complete sentence. In the second verse however, the lyrics change to "Du hast mich gefragt" and with that the meaning shifts from "You hate me" to "You have asked me".
@@LarsV62 "No fire, no show" is in their contract. If you want to book Rammstein, you ask your local fire department to double check your venue beforehand. Not that you'd need to, because Till (the singer) is indeed a licensed pyrotechnician. They always know what they're doing, standing in the right places, covered in flame retardant gel. It may be surprising, but Till is a very quiet and shy person off stage. He struggled with stage fright and introduced the pyrotechnics to avert attention from himself. But they quickly figured out how to combine Till's stage persona with extensive pyro, so Till got the license to do it .
It's a play on words based on the marriage vow. "Du hast mich" means "you have me", but phonetically it's the same as "du hasst mich" (double s) which means "you hate me". As the sentence completes it becomes "you have asked me: do you want to until death does part you, stay faithful?" The female choir goes "jaaaa" but the band shouts "NEIN!" Not one of their deep songs really but it's a little harder to translate because of the plays on words.
I got to see Rammstein back in 2010 at the Garden. It was, no contest, the best and loudest show I've ever been to. Rammstein aren't simply musicians, they are true entertainers. Their stage show is insane and unmatched.
Rammstein 2019 album debuted in the top 10 billboard in over 20 countries. Their live shows take a crew of over 500 people to set up and produce. The lead singer Till Lindman is a pyro technics genius. I bought their second album which was a huge success here in the states, back when I was in high school in 1996.
the translation of du hast is used interchangeably between you have and you hate me, also they did have an english version at the end of the album sehnsucht
Deutchland video is complicated, the "red thread of history" is a term used to to connect historical events together, that video is a short history of the German nation.
I saw them live , the huge crowd started jumping at the same time as soon as the concert started. A couple of miles further it was reggistrated as an earthquake. It was wild!
I’ve built the bands stage a few times when they played my venue. They have the most pyro and flames than any other band I’ve worked in the last 28 years. The last time they played the singer, guitar and bass player wore flame masks that shot flames 15 feet long. Awesome set and live show.
Love your reactions and that you're introducing more people! Du Riechst So Gut is always amazing live. The Volkerball performance is a really good one with lots of fun pyro.
Thank you sir for sharing this legendary music with your friends!!! Sending love from Guatemala 🇬🇹❤️ P.S. Mein Teil Live and Keine Lust videos are a must!!!!
I was there ! it was amazing ! I confirm, it was in Paris Bercy and you should see the entire show. I wasn’t sure they would be allowed to perform fireworks indoor, but they nailed it ! Kiss from Paris !
The lyrics you have looked at are those of the English version and not the translation. The English version was produced for Rammstein's first American tour. Even the band was not satisfied with the result and would like to forget these versions of the songs Du Hast and Engel.
They do an amazing live show, but what you don't get by watching a video is the energy, the feel of it. There really is an electric atmosphere. This is the first time I've seen one of your videos, so if you do get a chance to go and see a Rammstein show I would massively recommend it. I worked at one a few years ago (pre-covid) and I can honestly say I've never felt more alive as I did that day. You could almost grasp the atmosphere, it was that palpable. I'd love to go back as an audience member if I get the chance.
I saw this show in Manchester, England. I was in the very top row of the arena half way along, and even by the end of the first song I was sweating due to the amount of fire on the stage. I will never forgot it. Now I have the joy of seeing Lindemann live. It's the vocalist's side project and is even more extreme than Rammstein.
They are having fans all over the world.. It's everytime amazing for me, no matter which country, they all know exactly know the text and singing it.. Wow..
I found Rammstein in the '90s I was a teen in government placement foster care from the age of 10 to 18 and besides corn these are one of my favorite bands. They were on the corn family values tour and I think 1998 or 99 and it was a trip. I got banned from playing the video in the program because it was that outrageous. Love the band you guys keep living your best life du hast means you hate me du hasta mish you hate me to say yeah, I've listened to this song so many times. I actually know the lyrics in English
Rammstein is very famous not only for their Music but also for the Pyro on their Live shows. The Vocalist Till Lindemann is a certified Pyrotechnician and choreos all the Pyro by himself.
I got some information. "Du hast" means "You have" and the lightning are effects from the director of this "concert film" (Jonas Åkerlund who's been doing stuff for HUGE bands for years). I recommend you to get the full tour film literally called "Rammstein: Paris" where this song is performed in. You will see some major crazy stuff from that "concert film" and it's insanely well produced by Jonas. If you just found out about Rammstein you will love this concert film. If you didn't know, Rammstein is very famous for being kinky and provocative bringing sex, toys and bondage into their concerts (and lyrics) which you can find by simple research (google/youtube). "Live aus Berlin" from back in the days is also a super duper nice full concert movie which is neat af. I can also recommend the singer Till Lindemann's solo project (selftitled Lindemann) where he performs some english songs and some german. His concert is also very worth watching (it's very graphic and naughty). Hope this helps. Nice react. And yes, Till Lindemann is a trained pyrotechnic and handles a lot of the pyro engineering going into the concerts himself because of the stage falling a part back in the 90's.
I will see them live in Berlin 2 times this year. This will be my 8th and 9th time. Can't wait... Keep digging, and have a look at LINDEMANN! The singer of Rammstein has a solo project running with even crazier music and lyrics. One of the songs is called "Golden Shower", you get the idea? Just look for Lindemann live in Moskau and you will find all the good stuff. To answer your question, the lightning is post production, the fireworks is real. And if you think thats crazy, you have seen nothing...
The lightning effect is put on after for the Director's Cut re-release. I've no idea why as it doesn't need it. They are one of the very few bands around who create huge budget thought provoking mini movies for music videos, but are also absolutely brilliant live.
And two black guys from America just sit there and listen and watch in AWE! to a german metal band and saying nothing! That's just beautiful! I love you guys, and I love my homeland! Although I probably shouldn't be saying this. About my homeland... 😞
I remember watching the music video for “Du Hast”, by Rammstein, on MTV during the 1990s. It was the first time since the time Falco had some hit music videos in the 1980s, that a music video in a foreign language aired on the network without subtitles. It was a fascinating music video, with a surprise (for myself) ending. I highly recommend that you watch the music video at your leisure.
The name Rammstein directly refers to the airforce base. In the late 80s or early 90s there was a big accident during an airforce flight show where a jet crashed and killed and injured multiple people from the audience. On their first album was a song called Rammstein the is about this accident. Edit: they have multiple videos that got banned from playing on MTV because of the offensive content. Another must watch is 'Mein Teil' which was inspired by the german cannibal Armin Meiwes.
Rammstein has always gone above and beyond with their pyrotechnics. The song was first heavily introduced and brought attention in the movie xXx with Van Diesel when he first started getting main rolls. My buddy introduced it to me a year before it was released in the US because he took a vacation in Europe and picked up the CD after hearing it in a Night Club.
You guys may not know this but Rammstein were actually stuntmen in the movies. When they decided to form a band. They took all of that stunt performances and special effects with them into the new life. If you ever get the chance, look at the movie: XXX. This was their introduction to the world. They were the background of the first major scene in the movie and it was brilliantly done by the director and the band!
Man you guys are so entertaining, i am looking forward you guys checking out rammsteins newer songs, like Zeit or Dicke Titten and many more, rammstein just never disapoints :)
"Du hast, du hast mich" literally translates to "you have, you have me", but the pronunciation is the same as "du hasst, du hasst mich" which means "you hate, you hate me". It's a play on words, really, and simply doesn't work in English. The topic is indeed marriage.
@@Templarofsteel88 Only one line is, really. And it gets bastardized in the last verse, into something funny. Everything is in the context of marriage, though.
Yes, and because the build up the sentence word by word you're put on the wrong foot. You hear "You hate me", because "You have me" doesn't make any sense. And then when the last word comes in "gefragt" (asked) you hear "You have asked me". Which without further specification is assumed to mean one thing in German, Asked for marriage.
Du hast = You have ... Du hasst = You hate. It IS A PLAY on words and it does mean "you hate" in the chorus. So fun to see you reacting on Rammstein. But please stay on the road with Nightwish, too and start with Epica. Both will blow your mind constantly ;D
The band is named after the Rammstein airbase where, in 1988, happened a horrible airplane crash during a flight show with a crowd of 300.000 people. 3 planes crashed, one slided burning into the visitors, one onto a standby 1st aid helicopter. 71 dead (including 1 unborn whose mother survived heavily burnt), over 1000 injured. On stage, the band perform an amazing fire work you get different feelings about if you know the story.
Wow, I did not know that. I attended Wiesbaden HS and graduated from there in 1989 so knew about the tragedy as it was in my back yard so to speak. Never put 2 and 2 together.
Thank you guys for this reaction video! I am also a huge rap fan, but I just love rock music!!! I enjoyed watching you guys discover Rammstein! Music is the tool to bring cultures, races and countries together!!! Listen to: Engel, Ich will, Sonne, Mutter, Deutschland and Sehnsucht!!! Best songs of Rammstein to me. :)
They are incredibly popular and have been around for 30 years. They play in Belgrade Rammstein concert 1 - 24.05.2024. Belgrade - Usce Park Rammstein concert 2 - 25.05.2024. Belgrade - Usce Park. Each customer can buy a maximum of six (6) tickets per transaction within the same ticket category. They really have an audience of millions, I'm surprised you haven't heard of them???
They are proof that you don't have to understand exactly what they, or any other group are singing word wise, to appreciate what they bring to a performance. Keyboard lightning was added post production. As we say here in Texas; Y'all be safe. Oh yeah, new subscriber.
Great reaction! I have this band tattooed on my body twice and I don’t regret it one bit. They are definitely “left”. They wrote a song about how their hearts beat left and many of their music videos cements that. I love that you looked into them and read a little of their history.
Hi BP, as a German, I'd like to clearify some things about the lyrics. Du (You) Du hast (You have OR you hate) Du hast mich (You have me OR you hate me) Du hast mich gefragt (you have asked me) doch ich hab nichts gesagt (but I have said nothing) Normally it is HE who makes a proposal. Here positions are switched. SHE is proposing, but HE stays silent. Silence could be interpreted as approval so until now everything is sort of open ended. Then comes the kind of wedding vow, which is normally asked by a priest, so perspective is changed from "you" in singular to "you" in plural. Willst du bis der Tod euch scheidet (Do you want, until death will separate you) Treu ihr sein für alle Tage? (be faithful for all days to come) (Ja) Nein Choir: YES, Til: NO Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide Sie lieben auch in schlechten Tagen? (Do you want until the death of the vagina, love her even in bad days) (Ja) Nein Choir: YES, Til: NO Even if the lyrics are very very short, there are quite some layers in them. Keep up the good work!
you kinda guy who pokes an elthant in an eye ball to proof it is there .... i am Russian speaking muslim ans had no problem with a contekst we do get it dude - its just bad channel to wach obvious. they are just playing jerks
You nailed it completely the lyrics show the transition of a marriage from love to hate. It plays with the similatity in sound of Du hast and Du hasst which translate to You have and You hate. Tho other line is almost the word by word of the traditional wedding formula.
Going to Rammstein on Wednesday. The lyrics are you hate me. Deutschland is an amazing song and a crazy music video about the history of Germany. Rammstein has been my favorite band since 4th grade. I’m so lucky to be able to see them perform. The keyboardist does walk the entire time and is killed multiple times throughout the performance. The fire is all there and they blow up the stage multiple times. It is the greatest night of your life. Highly recommend going it is the greatest show you can go see. I’ve never been disappointed.
In english it's like "YOU" "YOU HAVE" "YOU HAVE HATE" "YOU HAVE HATE" YOU HAVE HATE FOR ME" "YOU HAVE FOR ME" "YOU HAVE HATE FOR ME AND I HAVE SAID NOTHING".Will you until death does sever Be upright to her forever Never Will you 'til death be her rider Her lover too, to stay inside her Never!
Great reaction. Trying to go through the lyrics got me excited. Unfortunately you looked at the English version, which is different from the translation of the German original that has more ambiguity. That is probably the source of confusion.
You can't go wrong with Rammstein, live shows or music videos - though it is trickier to react to their music videos without some editing for copywrite purposes - though seems to be a little easier these day. Either way you are in for a treat and lots of views, as they have a massive world wide following for an industrial metal band.
They do the pyrotech and theatrics also to connect with their non-German speaking fans/audience. That’s why they are so theatrical-like in their shows. They turn each song into like a mini movie that they act out on stage to give their songs more depth and understanding to their fans. Rammstein is huge worldwide so the vast majority of their fans do not speak German. Their non speaking German fans outweighs their German fluent fans greatly.
True. But nothing beats a Rammstein concert with German fans all around you. They sing every-single-word Tills sings. And he had /has a habit of changing the words slightly when performing for the 'home crowd'. It always adds new depth and the crowd goes mental when he does that! And (nearly) all Rammstein songs relate to something 'German': Berthold Brecht (e.g. 'Armee'), a German children's song (Hoppe, hoppe, Reiter) and even a children's tv show turned into a nightmare (Mein Herz Brennt)...
I have seen these guys live twice. My only regret is missing the third time they came to town. Their shows are sheer spectacles. I don't think the lightning is real, but the pyro, all of it, totally legit.
Rammstein has to be seen live, because they are a weapon there and the incredible crowd control is a trademark of them and no matter in which country they play, the audience sings in German like in Paris. The action with the fireworks did not even take place in a stadium but in a hall ( Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy) and would be unthinkable in e.g. America due to their immense safety regulations. If they go on tour there, the fans will miss a lot and will never get to see many really wicked effects! By the way Til does this specific move, called "Til Hammer" cause he had dislocated his knee before a concert and repeatedly hit it in the backstage area to bring it back in. The other band members found this movement totally cool so that he he adopted it for the stage ! Apart from the fact that Til is a trained pyrotechnician, at Rammstein concerts a special stage worker is very close to the stage and is connected by a microphone to the person who controls the fire. He feels the temperature on his cheek and gives corresponding instructions whether you can still step it up a notch or the flames have to be reduced. Another pure madness with with the audience - th-cam.com/video/fAaIFUXj4-8/w-d-xo.html At another concert Til greets his band members, who are carried back to the main stage in a rubber dinghy with a "Welcome - Sign". A political statement for the refugees who have drowned by the thousands in the Mediterranean Sea. Please look at the live performance of "Ich will" - th-cam.com/video/zO2t3KQMPPY/w-d-xo.html - (with english subtitles) ". Rock am Ring" is the biggest festival events in Germany. Rammstein was the Headliner and there are more than 80.000 fans on the target line and I was right in the middle and not only the few thousand hardcore fans directly in front of the stage answer Til's questions, but actually the entire audience down to the last row and to have been there and to feel the concentrated energy of the audience was just indescribable ! At some point Rammstein discovered that you can make up with instant coffee. According to concentration, black to red spots appear, which looks like dirt or blood. Flake was hyper nervous all the time during an earlier tour. What did he forget ? That he was made up with lots of coffee in the evening during every concert - Maybe the reason why he needs a treadmill 😉 In my opinion without Flake Rammstein would never have been what they are. Again and again he is only moved into the nerd corner and underestimated enormously. What most people remember is only the treadmill he is running on while playing. Most of the Rammstein pieces are backed by a mostly inconspicuous but sometimes bombastically symphonic sound body combined with techno elements and so much more. It´s done so cleverly that it is hardly noticeable in the foreground. But if you take it out of the equation and mix it away at the mixer console, the rest sounds almost like any metal band. Together with the typical Rammstein monster guitar riffs the keyboards in the background fill up the entire sound, make things round, and not at least because of this, Rammstein sounds so unique. This melodic sound together with the unbelieveble power that Rammstein brings over is also to be seen here - th-cam.com/video/Uq41Fmw5CGI/w-d-xo.html - th-cam.com/video/IjGNTqAW58E/w-d-xo.html - th-cam.com/video/jRxW5Vzeo0A/w-d-xo.html (here you can see Til flying) Exactly this concert in Germany took place about 20 km from where I lived and you could still hear it over a hill in between and see the light show flickering in the distance. You could clearly experience the sound level at which Rammstein are traveling🤯 ? ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, this performance was nominated for the Grammy ? - th-cam.com/video/qFpjMNKxsnA/w-d-xo.html - The song is based on a true story that happened in Germany. A cannibale looked for someone on the Internet who could be eaten by him and also found someone. Just google "The Rothenburg Cannibal". TOTALLY WHACKY. Richard Kruspe tells the story in an interview on the DVD "In Amerika" released in 2015. First the police arrested Paul Landers off the stage and then one by one, the sound became thinner and thinner as the other band members were arrestet and at some point he put his guitar down and turned himself to the cops. For Rammstein, who had come together in the former GDR, the left dictatorial eastern part of divided Germany, America was in their imagination the "land of unlimited possibilities" in which you can do pretty much anything. After a night in jail they know that it was a really stupid idea to perform anything like that in a big city in the "Bible Belt" - th-cam.com/video/pRXkDYTSAj4/w-d-xo.html - In Germany, this kind of thing doesn't upset (almost) anyone anymore - we're a little more relaxed there. One of the best titles by Rammstein but not as well known is Donaukinder" - th-cam.com/video/Oi-ixUoWAOU/w-d-xo.html - it´s not live but underpinned by Franzisco Navarro with scenes from the film "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas". But be careful, because for those who have even dealt with the Holocaust a little, this is really hard stuff! "Wo sind die Kinder" - "Where are the children" alludes to the fact that in German death camps, women and children were gassed first so that no more Jews could grow up or be born. "Keiner weiß, was hier geschehen, keiner hat etwas gesehen" means "Nobody knows what happened here, nobody saw anything" refers to the fact that very few Germans wanted to have known about the concentration camps, which of course was complete nonsense. By the way, Madison Sqare Garden was sold out in 20 min.
Deutschland is indeed an epic production, but definitely not for the uneducated. I've seen reactions to the song from guys like that, and to be honest, I'd fall on the ground laughing!😂
No one comes close to Rammstein's quality, profoundness, humor, social critique, energy, theatrics... First of all, they are the only metal band with a real singer (not a demented screamer), a great singer at that, and they do not adhere to a formula. Let's be honest, most metal is garbage and these guys are gold. They truly expose Metallica as the hyped noise it truly is.
I just went to my first Rammstein concert this past Wednesday. It was the most badass show I've ever seen. If you'll ever have the possibility to see them live, just do it. It's worth every penny. 🤘🏼
I think many Americans automatically connect a lot of European culture with right wing extremists, because in America a lot of extremists will be fascinated with European culture, especially from Northern Europe and Germany. But in Europe, it's just German Culture, or Norweigan Culture, etc.. It's related to a country and a people, rather than some political ideology.
They got thousands of French people, singing out loud in German, in the centre of Paris. That should say enough.
it hasn't happened since... a long time... 😅
…and even voluntarily… 😜
And Brits, Americans, even Russians.
Youre right david, it also says a lot about the victim culture others embrace so passionately. Not discounting it,but simply,🤔. Ya know?
You should check Rammstein in Nimes (France ) early 2000'.
But following it with " Du hast mich.....gefragt " it changes towards " You have asked me..." -vonStahlmach
whole song is actually a wedding wow with an answer in chorus
exactly right.
I was going to say the same thing about how it's a play on words in German where it switches between you have me or you hate me and that changes the context of the entire line depending on how your listening to it. And that the "you have me" version is also a play on German wedding vows. But really you guys explained it better.

As a metal fan from the 80/90 you will surely love Lovebites. Take any song live from them and tell what you think.
If you can entertain a crowd with your performance, that's called success, if you can make a crowd perform for you, that's called mastery.
Perfectly put
I had the privilege of seeing Rammstein live like 20 years ago. It is even more epic in person, you can feel the concussion and heat from the pyrotechnics. If you ever have the chance to see them, DO IT, even if metal isn't really your vibe.
I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium before they were selling out arenas. They may not have had the epic production like they do now, but to see them that close was absolutely insane.
I was glad my head is shaved, put it that way.
So long as they sell fire-retardant gel at the merch stands, it’s fine. :)

Rammstein are the best german poets of the 21 century. greetings from frankonia (germany)
this would be incredible but I don't think they'd ever come to Canada. Unless they have and never heard of anything
Im a german so i went ahead and translated the lyrics properly:
the "du, du hast" part of the song has two "interpretations". First one would be to translate "du hast" to "you have" however it can also mean "du hasst" which translates to "you hate"
the pre-chorus: here, the "du hast" is translated to "you have" and the full translation would sound like this: "you, you have, you have me, you have me, you have asked me, you have asked me, you have asked me and I said nothing"
the chorus would then be: "do you want until death seperates you be loyal to her for all days?" the female voice is singing "ja" which translates to "yes" so we have "(yes) NO! (yes) NO!" and then that once more
the next parts of the song are what i just translated so the only other thing would be in the last chorus: "do you want until death seperates you be loyal to her for all days? (yes) NO! (yes) NO!" and then the "new" part: "do you want until deaths seperation, to love her even on bad days?" and then thats basically it.
oh and the last little part: "Willst du bis der Tod euch scheidet
Treu ihr seiiiiiiin" translates to "Do you want until death separates you,
to be faithfuuuuuuuuuuuuul"
edit: and of course the "mich" in the first part "me"
Thanks for the translation, I am forced to wonder if the band was recording a darker version when they released an English version where he says “I Hate”. Would love to know the reasoning for the difference
Prost!
@Barton Abrams it's something found in many Rammstein songs, having two or three meanings.
It makes a lot more sense now that I am trying to learn German. People have explained this to me in the past, that the two words sound similar
I never quite understood what people meant when they’d say that, I just accepted it.
Hate and have.
I notice they have other lyrics like that now too.
Like I was listening to Stein Um Stein also the other day and I realized why one of the lines is so strange because they wanted to say Ram Stein within the song
I should have learned German years ago.
Thanks for this. So could it be translated; you have, you have me, you hate me"?
My son and I went to the show in Los Angeles in 2022. By far one of the best shows ever! And the pyrotechnics are REAL AF! The entire stadium can feel the heat no matter where you're standing or sitting

""The band was named after one of their earliest songs, "Ramstein", written after the air show disaster at the American airbase in Ramstein. According to the band, people started to refer to them as "the band with the 'Ramstein song'" and later as the "Ramstein band""
My friends' dad was working Military Police duty at that air show in 1988.

In a Dutch paper they Changed the word Rammstein to Rampstein: Ramp is disaster in Dutch. (The English word Ramp is helling in Dutch.)
The name also cames from the ancient door stop devises found in old iron gates called "rammsteine" ("ramming stones")
The legal handling was a disgrace. That's why the song Deutschland has a lot of meaning for me and I'm not a real Rammstein fan, but the guys can do it. And they always make their critics look like idiots.
They look like God's
In the late 90's in college my roommate was a big Rammstein fan. I learned to sleep while he listened to it. In those days i slept like a baby.
And get the English translation of the lyrics beforehand.
i think educatedmarine has added eng subtitles translation on their channel
My favorite is "Deutschland", that song is full of emotions.

Greetings from germany.
You're next Rammstein reaction needs to be Feuer Frei! live
That's the song that was used in the opening scene of XXX. A great song off of "Mutter", their best album imo
Don't you think Amerika would be better?
Heh. Or Mein Teil.
Actually, the song in xXx is Feuer Frei!
Yup I was about to say the same!
Absolutely man 🤘🏻🤘🏻 the energy, the show I mean what more do you need. 😉
Nice Bro!!
Grüße Germany😂

Beautiful. There is nothing like a relation to music that is so raw and powerful that you feel like you are actually metamorphosing during a song. @zamonischeswunderrind1353 that was a brilliant album, very hard hitting sounds
The keyboard player is using tesla coiles to create that lightning effect live during the concert. That is not a post production effect.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that lightning is indeed added in post. It's the only thing added in post though, everything else is real.

The German language is considered harsh sounding by most, and Tills voice is both harsh and beautiful so it's a perfect mashup.
thats why i love the german language you could say the most sincere, lovely, heart pulling poem, but still sound like your giving them shit
@@eibbor171 I like how German sounds, I know obviously regional accents and so on but mostly I don't find it harsh. The lightning on the pianist is post production, everything else is real.
Edit: Seems that everything is real, including the lightning. But they definitely did some post production on the whole video and enhanced several effects.
The difficulty with English lyrics is that that it's a play on the German language:
Hassen means "to hate".
That is Not Right they Made it better in Post Produktion but it was there Thea Made it with Tesla Stuff i was at a Concert of this tour
I heard from persons who were live at the concert that everything is real..even the electric flashlights.
I heard some time back that one of them actually has a pyrotechnics license? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The lead singer Till Lindman is a pyro technics genius. I bought their second album which was a huge success here in the states, back when I was in high school in 1996.
The dedication, and cinematic stage presence of Rammstein is unrivaled, and un recreate able. These guys are 1 in a kind.
the translation of du hast is used interchangeably between you have and you hate me, also they did have an english version at the end of the album sehnsucht
It is a wordgame... 'Du has(s)t..." Du hast mich gefragt = You asked me... Or Du hasst mich = You hate me... Greetings from Germany
The spelling is different. Greetings from Germany again
The Volkerball performance is a really good one with lots of fun pyro.
correct: du riechst so gut! „riech“ means smell, „reich“ means rich.
@@faragraf9380 Thank you I've edited it - am just learning German and getting things wrong a lot!
@ Molly
@molly yes reich is for rich,..... and Reich is for empire. So the worst word to misspell. They would be accused being nazis again.
Thank you sir for sharing this legendary music with your friends!!! Sending love from Guatemala 🇬🇹❤️
They are absolutely fantastic live.
That would have been interesting. Till has a unique way of expressing himself in his music. I like his tracks he has done as Lindemann.
you should come down to the feuerzone :3
Saw them 6 times. Outside concerts are even crazier fire wise.
@@pivogoon i want to see them outside... these inside ones are to tame!

Best live show I’ve ever seen. Saw them last year in Prague and holy shit… the show is insane
LOOOOOOOVE RAMMSTEIN, 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🤘 discovered this Phenomenal band 2009,🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🤘 thier live shows are like no other, Fuuuuuuuck'n insane phenomenal 🤘🖤
At the Family Values tour he came out on stage and got lit on fire.
There is nothing more epic than seeing Rammstein live. It's exactly like what you see in this video, but it's even more amazing.
The band wasn't really glad of the result ad took some times to release the DVD. After i don't think they ever worked again with this director.
And two black guys from America just sit there and listen and watch in AWE! to a german metal band and saying nothing! That's just beautiful! I love you guys, and I love my homeland! Although I probably shouldn't be saying this. About my homeland... 😞
Cool reaction guys! Rammstein Rocks!!
Each member of the band is a pyrotechnics specialist. He literally sets himself on fire during the show. Amazing!!🤘🔥
I was looking for this comment.
Only Till - not everyone.
You gotta do their performance of ‘Mein Teil’ in Japan. Some of the craziest shit I’ve ever seen during a performance.
They tried helping out my mom many years ago when she was homeless. Their accent was a bit too thick for her to understand but they were very kind!
"
Du hast" was on the matrix OST
Man you guys are so entertaining, i am looking forward you guys checking out rammsteins newer songs, like Zeit or Dicke Titten and many more, rammstein just never disapoints :)
"Du hast, du hast mich" literally translates to "you have, you have me", but the pronunciation is the same as "du hasst, du hasst mich" which means "you hate, you hate me".
It's a play on words, really, and simply doesn't work in English. The topic is indeed marriage.
a play on words yes but the lyrics are more along the lines of the words for the marriage vows.
@@brei2670 since du hast = you have and du hasst = you hate, they sound about the same though.
the best band in the world Rammstein my favorite band.
RAMMSTEIN is without any doubt the best Live performance I have ever seen!!
If you haven't seen them live - YOU NEED TO! 🤘😈
He's reacted to Engel on here before 😁
They are incredibly popular and have been around for 30 years. They play in Belgrade
Rammstein concert 1 - 24.05.2024. Belgrade - Usce Park
Rammstein concert 2 - 25.05.2024. Belgrade - Usce Park. Each customer can buy a maximum of six (6) tickets per transaction within the same ticket category. They really have an audience of millions, I'm surprised you haven't heard of them???
Rammstein is the best show I've ever been to.
Du
(You)
Du hast
(You have OR you hate)
Du hast mich
(You have me OR you hate me)
Du hast mich gefragt
(you have asked me)
doch ich hab nichts gesagt
(but I have said nothing)
Normally it is HE who makes a proposal. Here positions are switched. SHE is proposing, but HE stays silent.
Silence could be interpreted as approval so until now everything is sort of open ended.
Then comes the kind of wedding vow, which is normally asked by a priest, so perspective is changed from "you" in singular to "you" in plural.
Willst du bis der Tod euch scheidet
(Do you want, until death will separate you)
Treu ihr sein für alle Tage?
(be faithful for all days to come)
(Ja) Nein
Choir: YES, Til: NO
Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide
Sie lieben auch in schlechten Tagen?
(Do you want until the death of the vagina, love her even in bad days)
(Ja) Nein
Choir: YES, Til: NO
Even if the lyrics are very very short, there are quite some layers in them.
Keep up the good work!
Nix Vagina:
Willst du bis zum Tod, der scheidet
Sie lieben auch in schlechten Tagen
Bitte selber prüfen! 😉
you kinda guy who pokes an elthant in an eye ball to proof it is there .... i am Russian speaking muslim ans had no problem with a contekst we do get it dude - its just bad channel to wach obvious. they are just playing jerks

Til Lindeman is a very gifted pyrotechnician. 🖤🔥🖤🔥🖤🔥🖤
In german hate and have sound the same so it is a play on words
You nailed it completely the lyrics show the transition of a marriage from love to hate. It plays with the similatity in sound of Du hast and Du hasst which translate to You have and You hate.
Tho other line is almost the word by word of the traditional wedding formula.
Ja, aber eben in Paris!
Nee, keine Ehe. Sie wartet auf die Frage, ob geheiratet wird. Er antwortet nicht, also wird von ihr gehaßt
The best of Rammstein your all a nice day...👊💯 Bro s
Going to Rammstein on Wednesday. The lyrics are you hate me. Deutschland is an amazing song and a crazy music video about the history of Germany. Rammstein has been my favorite band since 4th grade. I’m so lucky to be able to see them perform. The keyboardist does walk the entire time and is killed multiple times throughout the performance. The fire is all there and they blow up the stage multiple times. It is the greatest night of your life. Highly recommend going it is the greatest show you can go see. I’ve never been disappointed.
In english it's like "YOU" "YOU HAVE" "YOU HAVE HATE" "YOU HAVE HATE" YOU HAVE HATE FOR ME" "YOU HAVE FOR ME" "YOU HAVE HATE FOR ME AND I HAVE SAID NOTHING".Will you until death does sever
Be upright to her forever
Never
Will you 'til death be her rider
Her lover too, to stay inside her
Never!
Great reaction. Trying to go through the lyrics got me excited. Unfortunately you looked at the English version, which is different from the translation of the German original that has more ambiguity. That is probably the source of confusion.
„Du has(s)t“ can mean both „hate“ and „have“ in german. They play with both meanings and the possible misunderstanding in the song.
You can't go wrong with Rammstein, live shows or music videos - though it is trickier to react to their music videos without some editing for copywrite purposes - though seems to be a little easier these day. Either way you are in for a treat and lots of views, as they have a massive world wide following for an industrial metal band.
Rammstein are the best live show on Earth. no messing.
Rammstein in a concert in America. Thats a shock
'Armee'), a German children's song (Hoppe, hoppe, Reiter) and even a children's tv show turned into a nightmare (Mein Herz Brennt)...
fun fact, Ramstein sold out the tickets for Madison Square Garden in 30 minutes
Bro, I FUCKIN LOVE RAMMSTEIN ❤❤❤
I have seen these guys live twice. My only regret is missing the third time they came to town. Their shows are sheer spectacles. I don't think the lightning is real, but the pyro, all of it, totally legit.
The Lighning is Real as well, in the Engel Video you can see the Tesla Coils for this.
'You have' and 'you hate', it's a double entendre. And the other lyrics are from wedding vows.
Another pure madness with with the audience - th-cam.com/video/fAaIFUXj4-8/w-d-xo.html
At another concert Til greets his band members, who are carried back to the main stage in a rubber dinghy with a "Welcome - Sign".
That he was made up with lots of coffee in the evening during every concert - Maybe the reason why he needs a treadmill 😉
In my opinion without Flake Rammstein would never have been what they are.
Skip to 4:00 to skip the nonsense - you're welcome
I just went to my first Rammstein concert this past Wednesday. It was the most badass show I've ever seen. If you'll ever have the possibility to see them live, just do it. It's worth every penny. 🤘🏼
I think many Americans automatically connect a lot of European culture with right wing extremists, because in America a lot of extremists will be fascinated with European culture, especially from Northern Europe and Germany. But in Europe, it's just German Culture, or Norweigan Culture, etc.. It's related to a country and a people, rather than some political ideology.
