Hi Vanessa! I'm from Australia and was impressed with your very easy explanations! You are a natural teacher (I'm a retired one), congratulations on your work and I shall continue watching your encouraging lessons! Thanks!

Vanessa, after watching your videos, I decided to plunge right in. I made a set of oven gloves, a pair of potholders. a set of placemats and a pair of mug rugs. All for my Mom for Mother's day. Thank you "sew" much!

Hi...I'm a newbie to quilt making and just got a new sewing machine for Xmas, so wanted to start out with something "simpler" than jumping into an entire quilt...this will be perfect!! I can learn how to make various quilt blocks, techniques, sewing tips/tricks, etc. AND use the coaster(s) as well. Now I need to figure out what type(s) of batting you use/prefer for different projects you're making. LOTS to learn but am SO excited to be doing so. Can't wait for more videos!! Take care!!

What a brilliant tutorial - thank you! I've been googling for ages for quilting methods for beginners as I had no idea what the terms meant - and you've explained them really well and broken the steps down so its not so scary. Can't wait to get started!! Thanks again :)

Absolutely! I would use at least 2-3 layers of the cotton batting or you can get some Insul-Brite batting too which is used for project like that. Have fun!

Ever stitch wall art? What I mean is a 8ish x 10ish quilt w/a loop at the top to put a bar through and hang. Have you ever used aida? I cross stitch a lot but do not know what to do with them when I am done, I made one into an envelope pillow AND LOVED IT, (could not have done it without your great tutorial) I am just looking for more ideas. Thank you for posting these, you are a great instructor.

@Libratarot Yes...I do. They are also called mini quilts or mini art quilts. No, I have not used Aida.. I don't cross stitch, sorry. You could try backing your cross stitch work with some batting and a layer of fabric for the batting and binding it to make an art piece to hang on the wall. You can see some of my mini quilts if you go to Flickr and under "people" search for CraftyGemini. Good luck!

I 'accidentally' started quilting when I started putting different fabrics together to make bigger panels for other projects, like 3 strips to make the front of a tote bag. Then I started doing different combinations, until I realized I was practically quilting without sewing on top of everything afterward! (Which you don't HAVE to do, but it holds layers together better than not doing it..) So you definitely don't have to make blankets; quilting is fun for any project!
