    I just made a batch of these for a gift, and here are a few things I learned. I used packaged charm squares with a pinked edge for my 4 front pieces and for my backing. I cut some neutral 5" squares from yardage, and I used a thinner poly batting. At first, I was using the wonder clips, but I found I got a lot of slippage in all the layers, so I started using pins, pinning from the back, and that worked better for me. Another thing I noticed was that my charm squares were probably a "generous" 5 inches, while my batting and inner piece were actually 5 inches, making lining it all up a bit challenging. In future, I'll check/trim charm squares before using them. I also think I'd get less movement using a cotton batting, but I wanted to use up what I had. Just my two cents' worth.
    This is a great tutorial, and once you do a few they are quick to make. They look very pretty stacked up and tied with a coordinating ribbon when giving as a gift. Thanks again!

    Cute project, thanks. I think I will make some of these to put between my glass baking dishes that clank annoyingly when stacked. These will put my bakeware to bed in cozy style, as well as serve as trivets when baked food comes from the oven. Ya!

    Nice clear instructions! I've heard that if you leave the squares open, and are using them for wine glasses, you can actually insert the wine glass base into the coaster, so the coaster remains 'attached' to the glass when you lift it up. If you make them different colours, these can also act as wine-glass charms. Just insert the glass before you pour the wine :)

      Yes that’s true! I’ve done that with wine glasses. 😊🌷

    I love mug rugs and coasters and potholders! I have a stack of little squares that need used up, and this is the perfect project. I wonder how hard it would be to make these into a circle pattern? Hmmmm.....maybe lay them out in the square, then draw a circle and follow that stitch line? I'm itching to try it!!

    • @TulipSquare
      @TulipSquare  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It might be more of a challenge keeping them lined up straight, but it's worth a try!

    Hi Paulette... I loved learning this from you. Your instruction is very easy to follow and spot on! I will make a few of these for my Mom for Mother's Day. as one of the trinket type things I am giving to her. I am wonderng if it would work if I made them at 4.5" and then it would be approximately 3.5" when finished so they are a bit smaller for Mom? I really appreciate you sharing how to make these. Love them to bits. Thanks kindly.

    • @TulipSquare
      @TulipSquare  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your nice comments! Yes you can make them in different sizes. Just make sure the pieces are all the same size and they are square.

  • @mhoefler914
    @mhoefler914 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've watched many of this project and no one has ever mentioned this important step: Whatever fabric you use as you lay out the 4, that design will be hidden in the folding. Solution is to lay out your design on the side then flip all 4 over onto the stack before sewing. If you want a very specific pattern on the fabric to show on the final the 4 pieces held together and flipped is critical to get the desired finish. I've made many of these and it will take a lot more fabric than expected to get the right direction of the fold to be shown on the finish.
    These get daily use as MICROWAVE POTHOLDERS. I make them for gifts, but have found if used as a coaster they need 2 layers of batting. For larger mugs 6 inches works better than 5 inches.

    • @TulipSquare
      @TulipSquare  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think most of our prints were so small that the design was the same everywhere, or it didn't really matter on the larger ones. Any time you fussy cut or want to feature a certain portion of the fabric design, it can use more fabric and take more time to get it the way you want it. 🌷

    Do you wash your charm packs first if you use a charm pack?

    • @TulipSquare
      @TulipSquare  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No, we don’t like to prewash any fabric. We prefer to let the cotton fabric, batting and thread all shrink together.

    You create objects that I do not know or otherwise know in my country. Is there any possibility of you creating an image how you use it.
    The technical sewing instructions are very clearly shown. Sound could be clearer or written, because not everyone has good hearing. It would be a real pleasure for the hearing impaired. I hope Google translate translated it clearly.

    • @TulipSquare
      @TulipSquare  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your comment! We use the smaller ones, called coasters, to put underneath a drink. This is so a hot cup does not leave a ring on the table, or a cold glass does not leave a water spot! The larger ones are potholders, to put on the table or countertop, and put a hot pot or dish on, so you don't burn the table. We do have the instructions written, with photographs, here: tulipsquare.com/patterns/how-to-make-easy-four-fold-coasters-and-potholders/
      I hope that helps! 🌷
