K&N Typhoon Installation for 2011-2016 Scion tC's

- I meant to upload this a LONG time ago, but just never got around to editing it. I installed a K&N Typhoon "short ram" cold air intake into my 2014 Scion tC 10-Series. This was a preventative measure against future hydrolocks and to give the engine a bit throatier sound.
All in all, after 8 months of having it installed, I couldn't be happier.

I wish Toyota never killed Scion, especially the TC it was one of the best selling cars in style and performance. Toyota should've made the TC Rwd with 300hp I'm getting a 2014-2015 TC2 with the 6 Speed Manual Transmission soon.
300hp? No. Toyota wouldn't do that, more like 228hp then the tC would still be around.
I'm not installing an aftermarket intake, but this was the exact type of video i was looking for. Wasn't too sure what to disconnect to reach my throttle body. Subbed anyways!

Did your buddy's scion tc hydrolock with the the stock intake? If so that's enough for me to get this for my tc
Yes. The previous owner hydro locked the engine with the stock intake. That is one of the main reasons I installed this one.
Water was only 12” high

Greetings, have you noticed any changes on Miles Per Gallon?
I’m not sure if it’s because of less traffic due to Covid, or because of the intake. But before install I regularly got 27mpg. My most recent fill up was 28.8mpg

Great video. Looks easy. How much mpg are you getting now?
I generally average around 29 mpg. Before I was getting 27 to 28. So this may have improved my mileage by 1 MPG, or I just drive easier now due to COVID making the roads less congested here in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

Question did you have to get it tuned at the dealer after installation? and where can you order intake thanks
No tuning needed. Just unbolt your battery for 15 min and reconnect. ECU relearns everything
Idk how you got the hose on so easily it was so difficult for me
Silicone spray does wonders
what did you use to tune the ecu so that the new intake will actually do something?
No tune was needed, instructions simply said unplug your battery for a few minutes plug it back in and the MAF will re-map based on the new air intake

I only feel a little more oomph at high RPMs, like 5000+. K&N state 4-5 HP gains.
I do enjoy the sound and the protection against hydro-locking

@@christopherfung1618 I do not know about engine temp, as I don’t have a temp gauge on my dash.
Mpg actually improved. I got 29 the other day with mixed city/highway
You add that engine cover ?
It comes standard on the RAV4. The replacement engine I bought was from a wrecked 2013 RAV4.
You should be able to buy it standalone.

Can I use WD-40 instead of the silicone spray?
WD-40 will work in a pinch, but try to clean off as much overspray as you can. WD-40 will actually attract grime and dirt to the areas left exposed that have been sprayed.
Do you not have to oil the filter
No oil was supplied in the kit, so I’m assuming in either pre-oiled or no
Can I use this intake for a Scion tC 2007?
Unfortunately no, it’s only made for the 2.5L 2AR-FE engines in the 2nd generation tC (2011-2016)
I work at K&N that plastic is molding crap

I haven’t failed any emission testing here in Texas, but they don’t do a tailpipe sniffer here. It’s never thrown any type of code. I would imagine it is Cali emissions safe.
No it will not pass smog in California they aren’t carb legal.

Doesn't seem like there's any in production anymore. Since 3 years of looking I've only ever seen custom setups made.

It’s an automatic, no input shaft. Just the typical auto trans whine these cars have.
Now its get hot air under engine compartment and more dust to the engine
So if you took the time to watch any of my other videos, you’d know that the previous owner hydro locked the engine due to the stock intake ingesting water that was only a few inches high. This prevents that.
And what dust? Not doing the Oregon trail here.
@@minter66 if you love run in to deep water, just move ( modified the snorkel up higher) still mess up the catalytic converter though. K &N filter nothing. Dust can make it through then will effect the mas sensor
