Fun fact: On the 1st gen’s you could remove the headrests and fold the front seats 100% flat, then recline the rear seats in order to create a makeshift “bed”. Scion called it a “social space”, and I definitely used it to “socialize” with a few young ladies. The 2nd Gen tC’s lost the feature for safety reasons.

the stereo is honestly the achilles heel of the car lol my grandma's 2000 buick lesabre had a sound system that was like 5x better. put out WAY more bass, was capable of much higher volume without distorting sound quality, and the clarity of the speakers was far superior. and they were bose speakers/subwoofers that were 6yrs older than the TC i own. only thing better about the TC sound system is that i can plug my phone in for music.

The tC doesn't even keep up with a stock Mazda3, whether on winding canyon roads or in a straight line. 28 likes....28 people who are in denial that their car is booty slow lol. Everyone I talked to always mentions it has stupid amount of cargo space and the moon roof is great for those date nights. Overall the 2AR-FE is a good engine and the car can do a lot of minor hauling. Again we have to see if they will become a thing like the civics or integras of the past. Tc 2.5 owner here. I can in fact say I agree with this. Still get a bunch of hate at car meets but others love the car. Safety wise it’s great. Just hydroplaned pretty bad. Slid across the highway into a grass ditch, spun 180 three times, hit a cement drain, and landed inches away from oncoming traffic on the other side. All that’s messed up is the subframe, bumper, rad support, and condenser. It could have been so much worse especially if I was in my old cars (lancer or celica). Things a tank. Mechanically speaking it’s got almost 160k and all I’ve had to fix before the accident was the pcv (common problem) and a sway bar link.

I recently let go of my 14 Scion Tc Manual a few months ago because I got offered a great deal on it. The TC is the most slept on car of the last 20years. In stock form it has an amazing sound system, panoramic sun roof, and ok suspension. I threw on TRD lowering springs and the car behaved amazing, it would lift off over steer on the corners and stay flat. I would easily smoke corvette, Camaros, Miata, S2000, and WRX at my local autocross with just lowering springs and tires. Everyone thought I was highly modified but I was practically stock and kicking everyone’s ass. The stock sway bars are nice and thick for a stock car at 21mm. I hope the new owner enjoys my old TC. It is an amazing entry level daily. Lastly it is extremely practical being a hatch back, and the rear seats even recline! I’m in a BMW now but young kids in high school or college should totally have one of these reliable cars on their shopping list. This cars only fault is that it doesn’t have high Hp numbers on paper but that doesn’t mean it is slow and that doesn’t mean it is boring. It is quick enough to still put a smirk on your face. Just be sure to get the manual if you can find one, the manual is quicker and really wakes up the engine. One last thing I want to say is that the car is super simple to work on, this makes it an amazing first sports car for young guys trying to learn to crank a wrench. Nothing about it is super intimidating and there is plenty of online resources on how to maintain them. TC was never trying to be the fastest, it was trying to be an amazing daily and it was a huge success in that aspect. Don’t sleep on these if you are considering one.

People especially in the car scene hate tC's because I have no idea I guess since they're not fast but people bag on them, I have a 2014 tC and its my baby and lets not forget its still a Toyota that last forever if you take care of it, But once you fix one up it looks sick and I'm always getting good compliments on my tC, Its a fun car to own and if you can find one and they are cheap to buy now I highly recommend to own one.

I haven't been in many cars, but tC meaning "touring coupe" is spot on. To this day, the first gen tC is the only couple that I can sit behind the front seats with them adjusted for myself, and my 6'1 300lb ass is comfortable. Head BARELY brushing the ceiling, knees only slightly spread to not jam into the back of the front seats, and ankles NOT cramped. And that's in a car that HAS a sunroof. Did I mention that the sunroof doesn't make the roof too low for the driver and front passenger, either?
And the second gen tC is just a bit bigger. The whole car was scaled up directly proportionally from a 25" diameter tire to a 26" diameter tire. With that I didn't even have to spread my legs, and I had about 2 inches of headroom sitting behind the front seats when they were adjusted to me. The 2nd gen tC even upped the ante with the sound-system by having a factory 3-way component setup, meaning each door had 3 different kinds of speakers in them, allowing for a more even and broad frequency response without any beaming.
Man, I want another tC... Just not another first gen, and especially not an 08-10... Fuck that oil consumption issue. And 5x100 pattern wheels. And measly 25" tires.

9:48 This is a stock header on 05's and 06's by the way. It's UEL on one primary tube, while the other three are equal-length. For comparison, a Subie Rumble header would be UEL on TWO primary tubes, either left/right pairs, or alternating pairs (every other cylinder). They changed it to all equal length in 07+ IIRC.

Ive had a 2012 Scion Tc for the past 5 years with now 138k miles. Only major problem ive had is the need to replace the clutch for the manual. These motors are good for up to 400hp with a turbo on stock internals and are shifting to a “cheaper” alternative to the K series since the Camry engines are dirt cheap. NA boltons can get you 200hp fairly easily so it can be fun and quick enough to beat your occasional bseries honda and even an acura rsx from a dig. Not to mention those thick rear fenders and angular cues just make it a head turner imo.
I have a 2013 and nothing brings me as much joy than the cool driver angled center control and flat bottom steering wheel.
I really do think the tC doesn't deserve the negative rep it gets, speed isn't everything. I also purchased it super used from a friend whose brother had owned it while he was in college, and he's not a shy little guy; he lived life in that thing, I found things inside that car I want to forget. I own a 15' TC and will be paid off very soon. I was 30 when I purchased this car. And even if the car wasn't fast, the build and design was great. I bought this car because it had a lot of interesting designs throughout the whole body. The interior design is the most impressive of all(cheap materials, but hey, its an econo-box). Something about having a low roof line and a high center console really feels like I'm driving a tank to and from places, lol. Some whom ride in the car with me ask if the touch screen display was standard. When I told them this is true, they jaws dropped to the floor. I just assume many cars around that time did not have a touch screen display at base price. I also must mention that the parts are cheaper when shared components are the same across all models, including the camry.
But, I will admit, I came close to giving it up for a luxury car(reminding you, I'm 30). I struggled with the delay from the throttle body. Its automatic with paddle shifters. When its in this mode, the shifts are delayed. I have not tried the manual, but I heard is much more fun. However, the car handles pretty well. Some say it drives like a truck. I don't think so. The car sticks firmly to the ground as angular momentum kicks in as I whip around the apex at dangerous speeds. Its a fun little car to be had. And don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Overall, this car is awesome. With the budget I had at the time I bought the car, I thought it would be smart to buy toyota because of its reliability ratings. I'm happy to say I have not had any issues with this car for 6 years. I have plans on buying an Audi next year, but if that car gives me issues, I can always count on my scion tc to have my back.

Long story short, I test drove it and the suspension is smooth and quiet, the clutch was replaced in 2018 it's got a nice smooth engagement from a dead stop. I found mine online (white 2010, tinted windows, aftermarket antenna), we went to the dealership and I test drove.
I’m 6’ tall but with the sun roof there’s just enough head room.
Everyone says it’s “so cute”, maybe, but I don’t wanna hear that.
I really love the speakers and panoramic sunroof but my favorite part is the shape of it.
I researched some tips on the car and I changed the welcome text on my radio, found the hidden handle for the very heavy hatch, found the rear dome light and in the glove box there’s even a special place for my gum!
Idk if it was intentional but I have an iPhone 11 in a thick case and it fits perfectly in the cubby by the cigarette lighter.
It has zero rust and it’s so clean.
The only thing I’ll do is get some wind deflectors, and a random Japanese sticker because aesthetics. My only real concern is who is translating these stickers? It could say “This is a very cute car!” And that would be just terrible.
People can think whet they want but at the end of the day I have a reliable car that looks interesting, has a panoramic sunroof, and costs less than any civic of the same year.

I got a tc, I'm 28 and it's honestly not a happy car to drive bc everyone hates it. But I got a iron manifold and a turbo at 6psi and people still hate my car bc noone wanted it. Its literally sub 3k weight car with modern luxuries. Hard to modify honestly but at the track I get to be at a miata and civic class

I just commute in my 06 and tbh don’t really care what others on the road think.
I paid $2000 cash for it when some people are financing 3 years of their income on a vehicle. Plus, it gets twice the gas milage of my (also paid off) 01 F-150.

I am certainly sad to see Scion leave us. Toyota created this brand to actively court the customization market and it worked. It wasn't about speed off the showroom floor, but the culture they created was amazing. Imagine dealerships hosting Scion car meets! I was involved in a club at that time, truly a fun way to get involved in the import scene. It's a shame to see auto manufacturers turn their backs on the tuner market.

I got my used 2013 tC bout 8yrs ago with 36K mi on it (now 101K) when I was starting college and have loved it ever since, its interesting the "t" stands for touring. Now I'm definitely not one to do these custom tire and body mods. Its a very underrated car, people are always shocked by how much room there is in the back once the back seats are down. The seats mostly stay down and only come up for the very rare occasion 2-3 people are riding with me. Since I use it for hauling airsoft gear (and sometimes sleeping overnight in it) at events, or when I go on drives and spend the night in a Walmart parking lot, I'm now looking into upgrading it into a convertible camper-ish vehicle when needed.

The TC was also the spiritual successor of the Celica.

best way to add power to the 2nd gen TC's 2AR-FE is replace the crankshaft from the 1AR-FE (2.7L identical engine) so the car becomes 2.7L add forged pistons and stronger Valve Springs to deal with the higher Compression. These mods will require an aftermarket ECU and a tune for the increase in Displacement. I'd also add forged Rods just be safe but Natural Aspiration you'll be doing over 200hp at crank easy just from the increased Displacement and possible higher rev range. Search on TH-cam 2AR-FE you can find good information about it from Frankenstein Motorworks. This guy is running a 2AR-FE in a MR Spyder pushing the power with the end goal of making 300whp (currently at 270WHP with the engine). You'll also find videos about it from Papadakis Racing they were able to achieve 1,000HP. This engine's capability is under rated and almost like a modern 3SGTE or 4 Cylinder 2JZ.

Bought my scion tc new in 2007 176,000 miles on nyc streets still drives even with a bad oil consumption problem .I think it’s going to shit the bed soon . I have bad rod knock. I love the car had tons of fun with it and was reliable .wish the engine didn’t have the oil consumption defect .

I will always forever hold the tc dear in my heart, since it tanked a hit from a truck going over 30😢
