I switched from the AEM CAI to this and I'm so happy I did. I kept getting water into my AEM filter but luckily not enough to hydro lock and the AEM CAI kept causing issues with my car who knows why. Switched to the K&N and honestly sounds better, I have no issues with my car anymore, and I no longer have that anxiety of driving in the rain. 10/10 would recommend this one too
It's because some manufacturers didnt design their products in a way that the MAF would recognize the air flow as "normal". TRD, injen, k&n, supposedly keep your MAF happy.
i got the TRD intake and honestly i really enjoy it. it’s not nearly as throaty sounding obviously but you get that inlet tub that kind of sits down by the fender. it keeps it looking stock underneath with a little spice with the red TRD. and goes with my TRD brace aswell
Actually have the ARM CAI, I was ready for the maintenance and it was actually a learning experience. I have never worked on a car before that mod so it helped me learn how to properly jack the car up use Jack stand etc. And with my AEM CAI I never three check engine lights but did have a short ram one that did when I bought the car from a friend
Just for some intake info, I have the Injen CAI and I love it. So much more roar from the engine and seriously noticeable gains in the mid-range. Proven 8whp and 9lbs/ft on dyno gains. I think the 2.5L is seriously choked with the stock box.
Honestly glad I came across this, I bought a 2013 Scion tC tht came with a short ram intake and it’s missing the shield he was talking about removing Thts in front of the wheel to maintain the cold air intake and was gonna buy one but was just doing my research and found out tht it would probably hydro lock on me and it’s my first car so yeah don’t want tht to happen. So might actually buy this instead
How much extra HP does this add? I don’t know much about these things, google said cool air intake adds maybe 5-20hp? What would you say based on your experience? Also does it make it more efficient? My tC 2.5 averages around 24-25mpg as I do a lot of driving with it. Not the most notable resource, but a couple google searches said this could add 3/5mpg to the car, would you say you get a slight difference like this yourself? Thank you!🙏🏼
It's difficult to tell how much HP I gained, but it's probably closer to 5 if you want to be realistic. Once you start adding on other modifications and possibly tuning the ECU, you might be able to get a little more. I don't remember what my gas mileage was back then, but I think it did improve.
If all you want is performance then stick with a KN drop in filter. The after market Intake does absolutely nothing for performance, it just makes nice engine noises. The stock intake is not anywhere near restrictive. In an age where MPG are huge selling points, manufactures with billions in research and development did not overlook something a teen can do in a garage. Save your money, drop in filter will suffice.
I don't recall at this point, but it's hard to say because I did start accelerating a little more aggressively after I installed it. Now I have so many other mods, it's impossible to say.
I felt some gains around 4500 RPMs and definitely spun (stock) tires a bit easier after installing (the only other thing installed at the time was a Borla axel-back).
@@VampyreX13 thanks for the fast reply! 🙏 yeah it's a bummer but I was digging around last night and HPS intake does fit and 05 tc and many ppl with this brand haven't had any issues with they're 05 or 06. @@gusb4309 For the first gen I would recommend getting the Takeda Intake its pretty nice, its black, and is essentially a Short Ram Intake like this one on the video, it even has a small heat shield separating the engine from the filter as well. I was going to get that one but I sold my old tc so I never did buy it.
Nope. That's one of the major reasons I picked this up. It's pricey, but they properly researched and designed it for proper flow across the MAF sensor.
@@venanciopineda4957 one option is to go custom and install a K&N Apollo filter to the end of the factory rubber piece that connects to the airbox. You would need a MAF sensor adapter tube though. Find and message me on Facebook if you want more info.

No, I kept the K&N filter. There should be no reason to swap it out unless it's damaged or can no longer be refreshed by cleaning. If you do need to replace it, you can with amzn.to/3gFekyV.

AEM sorry auto correct

How's the low-end and off the line throttle response with the cold air intake? Do you see more of your power towards the higher RPMs?
@@VampyreX13 it's mostly in the low and mid range, but top end is affected quite a bit, look on their website for a Dyno graph
Thanks for the help
You can also buy the adhesive heat tape and coat it on the backside of the heat shield but I wouldn’t put it anywhere else lol

I have hps cold air intake however I know this bad but I have not cleaned the filter since I installed it which was 3 yrs ago 😔🤦♂️
Get that filter cleaned or replaced if too far gone. You should notice an improvement if it's been that long.
@@VampyreX13 yes it's been that long lol jokes aside I know I definitely need to slap on a new fresh filter

I gained ~2 MPG.
What do you think about the TRD intake
My friend has one and he likes his. It seems to work pretty well. I need to take another closer look at it the next time I see my friend.

No.
Does this fit on XB 2011? I know tc and xb have similarities
