Ben Judd is the definitive voice of Phoenix for me
I agree that Ben is the most iconic voice, but I will believe that Sam does a wonderful job at an older version of Ben's voice.

What people tend to forget is that the newer games are set 8/9 years after the original Phoenix Wright Trilogy so he is gonna sound a bit different.
Sam Riegel does a great job imo, sounds like an older version of Ben Judd's take-on.

Biggest change comes from capcom now hiring actual actors. The original trilogy (also applies for japanese voices) was voiced by the people in the capcom offices

"The new voices are SUPPOSED to sound like parodies! It's a newer game, after-all!" I'm all for changing voice-lines with professional ones, but I think it's stupid to defend the newer voice lines. They just don't fit the character, and usually tend to lack energy.
Phoenix sounds YOUNGER in DD and SoJ, despite being canonically, like, 10 years older after the hobo time-skip. And Edgeworth just sounds completely fucking ridiculous, in both PLvPR and in DD. Those two voice lines are almost parody-levels of quality despite them being "professional".
I know we all prefer the old voices but let’s give the dual destinies ones some love. They are great voice actors and they definitely do a good job making the characters sound older as they should.

I prefer the first one for both characters. I think it just gets worse over time

I think Dual Destinies Phoenix is probably on the level of the original voice for him. I mean, there's a fair amount of time between the game, of course Phoenix will sound different, and I think Sam Riegal managed to capture the aging process without changing the Phoenix vibe too much.
The Professor Layton one is godawful though.

I like both og game Edgeworth and anime Edgeworth. Those are the most fitting voices for him.
i think ppl can be harsh on the dd/soj va's but. i really like them. i still prefer the originals i think, those are the voices i have for them in my head, but the new ones are still good even if the change in miles' voice is a bit jarring.
also i am such a fan of the voice they gave miles in pwpl. it's so funny. why did they make him so british. the "what's the matter wright?? cat got your tongue??" clip makes me cackle everytime i hear it
MvsC guy improved alot in duel destines but i still prefer the old voice. the later ones just lost all intensity and feel phoned in. the layton guy is great but i just dont like his voice as phoenix.
Well, Trevor White (Phoenix in Layton vs. Wright) is pretty good, but his "Objection!" lacks a little oomf imo.
