Hot take: Nick and Maya have no chemistry at all and their dynamic is really boring! People just like Maya because they have nostalgia for the original trilogy.
Seeing her in Spirit of Justice next to Apollo, Athena, and Rayfa makes her look like a plank of wood.

Ace Attorney has always been a Kangaroo Court, but for me the bit I could never "forgive" was a case in the second game; at one point you genuinely, decisively prove that it was literally impossible for your client to have commited the murder. But the identity of the actual murderer is still up in the air, so you have to work it out or your client gets found guilty.
Like, what? No, fuck you guys. My client is innocent, I don't care who dunnit, that's not my job. That's the polices job, how about we penalise the prosecution for not investigating properly? Screw you guys, we're going to get burgers.

You may think that the justice system in Ace Attorney is unrealistic, illogical, and complicated and be inclined to lovingly mock the game for it. This is because the game is loosely based off of Japan's real life justice system. A lot of the weird bullshit Phoenix Wright has to do in the game echoes an irl issue. For example, you don't need to declare or share your evidence before the court date, so "updated autopsy reports" being introduced at the last second is actually pretty realistic.

Apollo's backstory is all over the place, but the timeline fits at least
    SPOILERS
    - Raised in Khura'in after his dad dies and mother leaves thinking he's dead too, heading home and eventually having another kid
    - Left in *AMERICA* before his foster family has the worst of being hunted by the state
    - Meets his friend who wants to be an astronaut during school in *AMERICA* and decides to be a lawyer, after which point he learns about Wright and having been predisposed to it by his foster dad
    - after getting through law school, is hired at Kristoph's firm, immediately fired upon getting his boss arrested
and the rest is history or whatever

    • @genericgorilla

      It goes way back
      SPOILERS
-Apollo's dude is literally some troubadour who met the daughter of literally the most famous wizard in the world somehow
-They travel to Khura'in for vacays and they just happen to meet the husband of the queen in like the first performance he gives in the country
-said husband invites him for brunch at the palace and Apollo's dad brings him as a fucking toddler for some reason, at which point the sister of the queen decides to plot a coup right then and there
-the husband of the queen now a rebel because reasons raises Apollo and some dumbass in the wilderness or whatever
-even though Apollo's mother thinks Apollo literally died with her husband who stupidly took a toddler to brunch, she passes down the bracelet to Apollo??? Somehow????
-Then rebel husband of the queen sends Apollo to THE STATES claiming shit had hit the fan but actually just wanted to revive his romance with the queen who herself believed her husband was behind her death which never really happened, but agrees to go anyway

If you listen to him, he is under payed, serves his colleagues coffee as an Inspektor because they don't trust him properly, only has 1 friend that's basically a Cactus, tries to make the mascot of the police station with all his heart so it can get insulted from his colleagues and THEN he loses his job to protect Edgeworth who won't even give him a second look 😑 and we have to talk him into that!
