Luis Rendón It’s a good option in my book, there’s a wide variety of cpu/gpu options but the one I own has the i7 8750h and the gtx 1060. I video edit quite a lot on this laptop and it does it easily, no lag. I do game on this laptop but also not super heavily, the performance is great for that as well. I’ve owned it for 7 months and no problems to speak of. It’s been a great laptop for me and my needs definitely a laptop I would recommend.

Good review. I'm more and more impressed by HP's lineup. They have great price/performance ratio. I wish all these guys just had an option to include a 90Whr battery or something. Can't have everything I suppose. Oh well. Also, why doesn't the cores hit max load frequencies during a load test. That's a big red flag for me.

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks ! Yes, I was thinking the same. I wish they had a 90wh battery instead of the 2.5" bay and had 2x m.2 slots.

I have the 2018 15 inch version which came with a 72Wh battery (I think there's an 2019 RTX/GTX16x0 version as well). The laptop is thicker and heavier than the model you see here.
I feel like HP missed the mark here, unlike the 15 x 2s, which has almost the same chassis, they kept the hard drive like the previous generation, at this point I would rather have a second m2 and/or a bigger battery. (Holding the x 2s it is much lighter but again the dual screen isn't for me and I was hoping to get the same internal with a conventianal keyboard trackpad layout and possibly better cooling)

i just and bought the 1660t with the the i79750 and it has the red logo. Was concerned if this was a 2019 model and called HP and they said it was a 2019 model.Did they (walmart) give me an older model? This is super late but the channel "Tech finds" just released a video that sheds some light into your issue. Apparently what HP did back in 2019 was update the 2018 model (red accents) with the turing cards (rtx & 1660 line) while simultaneously releasing the 2019 model (grey accents). The updated 2018 model is the same as the base 2018 model, except that it has newer gpu cards. It seems you got the updated 2018 model

  • @Zandercode

I've owned this same model for about 2 weeks now (the new design, 15", i9, 2080 MQ, but 32GB RAM instead of 16), so far I'm quite happy with it. Everything in this first look matches up with my experience. I got an almost identical Timespy score after undervolting by 150mV in ThrottleStop - but only when I set it to performance mode with the fan speed set to max. Setting the fan speed to auto drops my Timespy score down from around 7,800 to 7,400 and it clearly thermal throttles in the last few seconds of the CPU test in the latter case, so I think it's a little unfortunate the auto fan mode doesn't seem to ramp up the fan speed aggressively enough. Auto doesn't seem to ever max out the fan speed, even when the CPU hits 90°C...?
However, the GPU barely ever even reaches 60°C. Imo they could have pushed the GPU a little harder, and eased off the CPU some. Seems the GPU has the thermal headroom for the 90W version and higher clock speeds, which they probably could have done if the power supply had been a 230W version like last year's 8750H models had. If I'm not mistaken though, I think the "dynamic power" aspect of the performance mode does let the GPU crank up the wattage closer to 90W at times when needed, just not all the time...?
Regardless, I'm still quite happy with it considering it's at least $1k cheaper than similar builds from Alienware and probably has the best price to performance ratio of any 2080MQ laptops out there really. The build quality is the best yet from HP/Omen, on par with Alienware now imo, it's very thin (20mm) and light (under 5lbs). Ultimately, at this price point, I would recommend it.
Oh and yes it has G-sync, despite no mention of it anywhere in the marketing or product description as far as I can tell. Also, on the HP site, when customizing the 17 inch version, the GPU selection shows only Max-Q 2070s and 2080s as available options, but I believe this is an error, and that they are in fact all using the full "Max-P" version as advertised elsewhere for the 17" version. Dunno why HP seems to keep shooting themselves in the foot by leaving out important selling points like this. Their website and marketing team just don't seem to be on the same page as the engineering team.

Thanks for the info. Yes, their sales and marketing teams aren't totally with it. Creates alot of confusion.
The GPU actually goes up to 102w so it does a good job and although I would like to have the option of having the CPU use 70w the update makes it run cool and you dont lose any framerates as a result. It still runs at 4000 ghz on all 8 cores when rendering my videos.
I wish it had a mux switch so I could get better battery life, that is my only negative.

ty for all the work you do. I am not a fan of the angular design, still looks to gamer ish for me. Still using my msi gf63 which has an ugly red keyboard, but overall is nice and sleek on the outside. The 1050ti max q is good enough to play the games I currently play. Just wish the screen didn't suck. It's the reason I keep looking for an upgrade. Bought the Helios 300 on prime day and returned it as mine had bad coil wine and the fans where super loud. @@OWNORDISOWN yeah, cant wait for that video. Price is my only concern with that laptop. Like bob said in your live stream there is no such thing as a bad laptop just a bad price.
The fact it does not have an oled display, no thunderbolt 3, no charging from type c it seems like it should be priced at 1200 msrp with a sale making it a great deal. But 1500 seems steep for what specs it offers.
Just the form factor and the beautiful build is very tempting to buy for someone who plays mmo's and is willing to play at 720p for modern games on the laptop since the screen is only 15". I have a desktop for home use with a 2060 for those games anyway. Its the portability that is appealing especially with that small charger (would be smaller if it was type c)

The new update for the Omen definitely sorts out any thermal issues. Really like the chassis redesign. Considering you're running some hot SoCs in there, Liquid Metal or at least Kryonaut are mandatory. What's the panel ID? if does indeed have G-Sync I guess the AUO HAN 8.2, if not the ChiMei one.
Only thing I hate about HP is their atrocious webstore... It's like playing the lottery, no idea which panel you get or if it has G-Sync, or if you get liquid metal or not on the i9-9980H ones, or if you're getting a Max-P RTX 2070 or a Max-Q one on the Omen 17T... they need to update that site ASAP, plus still says the new Omen 15/17t are Coming Soon, yet are on sale since June. 2019... This drives away in droves informed consumers that don't wanna deal with the uncertainties and time lost on RMAs.
Good thing to know they added an option to max out the fans on the Omen Control Center! Can't you enable a mixed usage power profile for 56 watt on the CPU or 65 watt CPU only like on previous gen Omen 15s?
