    At 3:50 the recipe says to add 150g of Bicarbonate Soda - this should be 2 tsp. Sorry guys!!

      I actually put in the 150g, haha. I don't usually bake and even I was wondering how it practically used the whole pot of bicarb. It was horrendous and we decided to just drink the sauce instead :( The sauce was amazing though :)

      Yep - and unfortunately after making it last night and not reading the comment (and putting in 3/4 cup of bicarb) I can tell you all what it tastes like with that in there :) Will try again tonight with the proper bicarb in there as batter smelt lovely before that......

      Can you make this ahead of time and warm prior to serving? And would you heat both the sauce and the cake?

    I just made this tonight- I have never made sticky toffee pudding before and I actually haven’t made anything from scratch in a few years s I was a bit nervous. This was so easy to follow and I’m honestly shocked at how amazing it is. Better than any other sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever had at any restaurant and so much more satisfying to know I did it myself. Thank you so much for this!!! I cannot wait to bring this to my family Christmas dinner and blow everyone away when I tell them it’s homemade from scratch!!!!

    If there’s anyone doubting this recipe, don’t!! I’ve made this probably 3/4 times and it turns out good all the time. My entire family loves it. If you don’t have treacle or golden syrup, just use honey! The taste is strong but It still works well

      Commenting to add - i use Dark Corn Syrup in place of both of those, and love the flavor. Also have made this several times, but i blend the warm dates mixture to get a purée

    Oh my goodness is this ever good! I made this last night for my son-in-laws birthday. He thought he died and went to heaven (along with the rest of us). I’ve made other versions and they are going in the garbage. This is a keeper. Try it you’ll love it! Thanks for sharing Donal

    I never comment on videoss butt thisss deserves it. The recepiee is exceptional. I used honey instead of the trickel and golden syrup and it turned amaaaazing and I just left the golden syrup in the caramel but it still turned lovely. My mother who is not a fan of sweets had seconds so if you are sceptical about it justtt tryy itt.❤️❤️

    Made this at the weekend and it was wonderful. The pudding is so light. I did substitute some of the water with dark rum when simmering the dates for an adult dessert 👌

    Excellent recipe! This may be the best sticky pudding ever. I made it today and followed it exactly and it turned so well. I paired mine with crème anglaise. My friends all loved it and even my friend from London said it’s the best she’s ever had. Thanks so much for sharing!

    Tried it today and OMG AMAZING! I did slightly adapt it - I used 175ml of water and then 75ml of milk in the batter and also added a teaspoon of baking powder - absolutely amazing, plus the caramel sauce makes your kitchen smell like a toffee wonderland, thank you @Donal !!!!

    I just made this recipe!!! It came out phenomenal!!!! Had my first sticky toffee pudding at Hell's Kitchen in Vegas and immediately fell in love. Found this authentic recipe and decided to give it a shot for a dinner party I was attending. Bought the authentic ingredients it calls for (I'm located in the US) since I didn't want to jeopardize the flavors. It was an absolute HIT and tasted so delicious and decadent. 10/10 would recommend. Can't wait to make it again!!

    As a baker of many desert breads,I would definitely add ,cinnamon,ginger,cloves,nutmeg ,would ad volumes to the flavor ! Thanks !Will give it a try .

    Thank you for this recipe. I made this for Christmas last year and my family went crazy for it! It took a lot of work to find the Treacle and Golden Syrup in southern California but absolutely worth it!

    I am always hesitant when making recipes found on TH-cam as they rarely turn out but I gotta say this turned out equally as good as any Sticky Toffee Pudding I've had to date. It's much better than we've had at local pubs but what got me the most was the caramel sauce!! When I gave it a taste test, I instantly got that dopamine release!! Unbelievable!! Mind you, I omitted the extra salt as we're not fans of salted caramel.

    Not sure why youtube recommended this video to me (thanks youtube!) but I decided to make it for christmas. I've never had sticky toffee pudding and I wasn't confident it would turn out edible, I though for sure the dough mixture was way too wet. But it was simply amazing, I fully understand now why this is your desert island desert! I most definitely will make this again, the sponge was really light and delicious with the toffee and the ice cream. Thanks for a great recipe!

    Saw the video and just had to make it for my friends birthday. Made it gluten free special just for her and it came out perfect. I wasn't able to stay, but she called early the following morning raving on it and said she needed the recipe. Over the next few days I had numerous requests for puddings. After making three more I finally made one for myself. Had it in the oven by 6:30am and by 8am I was munching a serving. Omg, so ridiculously awesome! More requests have come in and I have plans to make for my surgical clinic staff. I bring them goodies in appreciation for their wonderful care every 3 months when I have procedures done. I found a pan that makes 20 individual cakes. Perfect amount for the whole staff. Absolutely love your recipes and this is now my favorite. Was wondering if you have a good recipe for Christmas pudding with the candied fruit and nuts. The recipe I used last year was the traditional plum pudding but it is steamed and due to my disabilities can be a bit much for me. Love Christmas baking time and always searching for new recipes. You rock!

    I just tried this recipe. Since I was testing the recipe for future use, I cut the recipe in half but followed all the directions exactly. I only poured enough batter to half fill a 4” cermamic dish. The caramel sauce alone was incredible. I will never look at bottled caramel the same way again. Served this with some vanilla ice cream and strawberries. Personally I think the strawberries are mandatory. This recipe is heavy so that’s some needed relief. You can even get fancy and have blueberries and strawberries. Any one you make this recipe for will be incredibly impressed.
    I did find black treacle and golden syrup at a local British gift shop in H-town.

    My family & I tried this at a restaurant last year during a trip out in the snow, my brother included ofc, & he’s now away for school! He’s the baby of the family, & everyone misses him. So this holiday szn I’m gonna to make this as a memory of our time in that restaurant during our trip! My family doesn’t know he’s coming for a surprise visit (even I’m not supposed to know hehe so I’ll surprise my brother w it too!).     My favorite dessert of all time. In fact, I ordered it the other night. Back when I was living in the UK (one week a month for 10 years) I used to regularly haul back quantities of Golden Syrup, Treacle, and Bird's Custard Powder. It's a good thing there wasn't a strict weight limit on luggage back then. 🥴

    Sigh, my diabetic heart covets that. I always used to add a splodge of chunky marmalade to my batter before popping it in the oven, the slightly bitter taste balances all the sugar and dates...sublime.

    Just made this yesterday for Christmas and it was delicious! I’ve heard so much about this dish, but living in the US have never had it! I tried making it in my fancy bundt pan but didn’t release cleanly…oh well. Golden syrup is not available in our grocery stores so I subbed maple syrup and molasses for the treacle. I also had an orange I had half zested for another recipe so I zested the rest and added that. I did use the 2 tblsp soda, but it was fine and tasted great!

    Thank you! And yes the baking soda amount is off. I actually made it with the enormous amount of bicarbonate of soda and it overflowed all over my oven. So needed to start all over again.
    Ok just tried it...WOW! AMAZING!

    YES!! This is my absolute favorite dessert! Nothing else comes close, sadly it's really difficult to find in the U.S. or at least where I live in Georgia. I appreciate you sharing the recipe, it looks amazing and I intend to try it soon. I remember Häagen-Dazs had a contest years ago where people could submit their own new ice cream flavors and the winner would be produced for a limited time, the winner ended up being sticky toffee pudding and itb was freaking delicious! I was disappointed when they stopped making it, it should have become a permanent flavor, it even had the chunks of cake as well as the sticky sauce,best ice cream ever in my opinion. Thanks for sharing ⭐

    Amazing Recipe!
    I highly recommend adding the following for a nutty, warm earthy taste:
    1 1/2 TSP Cinnamon
    1/2 TSP Ground Ginger
    1/2 TSP Ground Nutmeg
    1/8 TSP Ground clove
    I promise, it's amazing!

    I think there's a typo at 3:55. You wrote "150g bicarbonate soda", which would be disastrous! 😂 (It's correct in the description, but just in case people don't look there and just follow the video!)

    This has been my go too for Christmas day desert the last two years. It went down and disappeared so fast last year I made two this year to cover Christmas and St Stephens Day. Delish. I also add a tablespoon of treacle to the sauce......amazing

    Omg this came out amazing. I used molasses and honey instead of treacle and golden syrup, and for the sauce I did use corn syrup for better stabilization. Was a hit at home.

    Made this for the 1st time tonight and wow is it ever good! I slightly pureed the dates and put them in individual tins. The only thing is that for some reason the sauce wasn't as dark as in the video, but still turned out great, but I will definitely add a liiittle less sea salt 💁‍♀️

    I made this today for visiting friends and it was fabulously easy. The 250mls of water to soften the dates is not included in the ingredients list though…definitely a keeper 👍

    Oh dear lord and heavens above! My pancreas started limping as soon as I watched this video! 🤣🥰 It looks glorious and I'm sure it tastes even more heavenly! We do sticky toffee pudding each Christmas - it's a favorite!
