    A suggestion on the snaps . For matching snap, how about after you have put the hole with the awl, in the flap, close flap, put pen through the hole to mark a matching hole point on the body of the pouch . Then make a hole where the pen mark is and you will have both the holes aligned. Then insert the “pointy snaps” through the respective holes to attach the female/male parts.

    After replaying the video several times to follow along, these are very easy to make! Instead of starting with 11", I just cut the fabric to 9". Also made a cardboard template instead of markings, so it is easier to flip the fabric over, iron with the cardboard in place, turn over and do the other side.

      I just watched through a few times to figure out that extra 2" piece. Thank you for posting your comment. I wanted to make from a 10" layer cake and that will work great! I see the 2" strip is used to make the tab for the D ring. I may try to make those from coordinating fabric or figure out something cute. :)

    Great Tutorial... I just wanted to share a little tip on how I remember where the snaps go...
    The male lies around doing nothing {Bottom}
    The female does all the work! {Top} closure.

    I love these. I made two of them last night. I purchased the press, awl and snaps a while ago but had never used the snaps. You made it look easy and explained well how to do the snaps.
    Instead of using paint to mark the place for the second snap.... What I did was....
    - Determine where I was placing the snap on the flap and made the hole with the awl.
    -Fold the flap down into place.
    -Using a pointed sharpie marker and the hole as a guide, I made a dot through the hole onto the fabric below.
    -Then using the awl, I poked the hole on the pouch part on the dot, and placed the second snap.
    Super simple and it lined up well. No paint needed.

    I understand why you started out with the 11 inch length. (Copy paper) But to save time I would just start with the 5x9 pattern size. That way people can make the pattern the right size to begin with and save 2 minutes of video time cutting off the unexplained 2 inch piece. I like the end result. Thanks for sharing. Chalk would be a good way to mark where the snap goes. Cute little purse.

      It’s 9” from the apex of whatever curve/angles you choose for your flap pattern. That can vary depending on what style you choose.

  • @lesleygilbert1945

    I liked your version of leaving the side lining unsewn for turning. Your fabric was beautiful. When I use my cam snaps, I press the first pointy part through the 1st hole and into the other side to make a dent into the 2nd fabric, then make the second hole with my awl.

    • @RosiesArtStudio
      @RosiesArtStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I have a few different ways to line up the holes for the snaps, but this fabric was so dark that I had to use something that would show on the camera. My favorite way to to use a marker to color in the male snap and then press it down. It works great, but you would not be able to see it on the video.

    Thanks a lot ! Very nice tutorial. One suggestion : at 10.11 I use a piece of cardboard (5 x 3.25 in) to mark the fold. I place the cardboard on the interfaced side of the exterior, fold the upper part back on the cardboard and press. This gives me a nice fold that is .more precise than a line , and is a time saver, especially if you make a lot of pouches. Thanks again, Rosie.

    SOOO happy to have found this video. I have made these for years for my (teacher) daughter's first grade class. They're used for class incentive bucks which are redeemed for rewards (ie no shoes day, sit at teacher desk, Xtra show and tell ...) any way, I had a pattern made to her dimensions but this yr couldn't remember HOW to sew together. Your tutorial was way better than the way Id made before. And thanks to the toggle info I'm going to add an extra tab to write student's names! Thank you, thank you!!! Now ... gotta get to work!!! 😉

    Fantastic, I have been looking for a pattern and tutorial for this, and you make it look so easy, so I am going to make some of them this afternoon.

    Try rubbing chalk on the snap and then pressing it against the opposite fabric to mark placement.

    I read you can use the awl to poke through both pieces of fabric at once to make sure they line up appropriately. That way you wouldn't have to use paint.

      Yes you can, but on a project as small as this one, it would be difficult to do because you would end up poking through the back of the pouch too.

    These are really sweet! Ideal for little stocking fillers for Christmas coming.
    I have a suggestion to add - insert the male part of the snap first, then close the flap and press hard with a finger over the snap to make an indent on the fabric where the other half of the snap needs to go.
    I like the idea of using paint but I really can’t be trusted not to get it everywhere lol. So now we have two ways to do it.
    Very clear instructions, thank you.

      I do use the method that you mentioned using the male snap to make an impression, but it does not show up on a video; especially with the dark fabric. Thank you for commenting and have fun making the pouch!
