Hey guys, you mentioned wanting to see an entire orchestra play this music-- the Danish Symphony Orchestra covers all the music from LOTR, and The Hobbit, it's available on TH-cam here...
In response to your comments about the troll cave being the same as "Shelob's lair" (on the borders of Mordor in LotR), the events of these movies take place well to the north and east of the events of the other trilogy. Other than the Shire & Rivendell, none of the other locations in the Hobbit trilogy are places you've seen before - even the evil, hidden refuge of the Necromancer & the nine. Tolkien loved making maps along with his world building.
Bittersweet fact: Sir Ian Holm developed Parkinson’s disease and it got quite nasty. He stopped acting altogether, but Peter Jackson and crew were hoping to have him reprise the role, and he agreed as a favor to Peter, and I like to think he did it for the fans too. He couldn’t fly to New Zealand, so they set up a private studio in London with a small crew and all the time in the world. There, he gave his final performance (I believe this is actual last acting job, though I can stand corrected), and one that can, and I think should, be appreciated by all. I think he was flawless. RIP Sir Ian Holm.
@@peloquin5652 one of my favorite remarks by Peter Jackson about him in the behind the scenes was how he always did each take differently. He might walk differently or inflect specific words, or change the pace or tone of his dialogue. It wasn’t exactly stage acting, where one tries to play the part the same night to night, but in filmmaking it gives the director 20-30 different ways they can cut and splice from different takes to make it the movie they wanted. I thought that was cool.
Welcome back guys. Remember after the FELLOWSHIP was formed in LOTR, Gimli was trying to convince Gandalf to go through the Mines of Moria. Gimli mentions that his cousin BALIN would give them a “right royal welcome”.
Funny thing about the three trolls - not only do they speak in lower class British accents, but in the book they have full bog-standard English first and last names - Tom, William, and Bert Huggins. I think they’re the only Middle Earth characters you can say that about. And to clear up - the Pale Orc had beheaded Thorin’s grandfather. Thorin’s FATHER just disappeared in that battle, fate unknown. Book trivia: the initial gathering at Bilbo’s house occurred on almost exactly the 100th anniversary of the Father’s disappearance. Dwarves have a lifespan of several centuries.
If you remember in the "Fellowship of the Ring" movie, there was a scene where Frodo and company encounter some "statues" and one of them says "are these Bilbo's trolls"?
4:30 mark - No, these films were made 10 years after filming wrapped on LOTR. They used CGI de-aging technology to make everyone look younger even though the original cast were a decade older. 🙂 In the behind the scenes featurettes, they interviewed Elijah Wood (Frodo) on how it felt to be back in Middle Earth. He mentions that he was only 19 when filming began on LOTR & now here he is at age 29 slipping on his hobbit feet prosthetics once again.
I feel like they really only used CGI de-aging for Christopher Lee and Elijah Wood and one other actors(not going to spoil them). Ian McKellan, Ian Holme, and Cate Blanchette all look noticeably older.
@@TallisKeeton If they did, they didn't do a very good job. He's noticeably older and more jowly looking. I only know of using special makeup and effects to make Ian Holm look younger in The Lord of the Rings when Bilbo first found the ring.
17:56 - no that is not the cave where Shelob, the giant female spider lived. Her tunnels were located along the pass of Cirith Ungol which was close to Mordor in the far southeast of Middle Earth. Bilbo & company are nowhere near that realm. They are traveling into the northeast region towards The Lonely Mountain. The only two familiar places that we see in this series is The Shire & Rivendell. So even though some places may look similar (such as the Goblin King's domain looking like the pits of Isengard) they are not the same locations that were shown in LOTR. We are journeying through a whole different part of Middle Earth. You can find maps of Middle Earth if you search the internet. Then you'll be able to get your bearings on where these characters are traveling to in relation to other areas that we've already seen in the LOTR series.
I don't know if anyone told you this in the comments yet, but the chapter in The Hobbit where the Goblins attack them and they climb the trees, start the fire, and the Eagles show up is actually titled, "Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire"... Awesome that you said "Out of the frying pan," just by coincidence, when the goblins showed up at that point in the movie! Great instincts!
The first chapter of The Hobbit was "An Unexpected Party," and the first chapter of LOTR was "A Long-expected Party." In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit - not a nasty, dirty, wet hole filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit hole, and that means comfort. :)
You guys asked if any of the dwarfs here were connected with Gimli. Yes, there is one. Gloin! He is Gimli's father. If you remember in LOTR, Elrond first addressed to Gimli, as a son of Gloin. When you look at Gloin, you will recognize similarity with Gimli in his appearance. Balin here was the same dwarf that Gimli cried on his tomb in Moria, and the dead dwarf that Gandalf read the book from before orcs attacked the fellowship with the cave troll is Ori. He is also here in the Hobbit. Btw, loved your LOTR reactions, best channel I watched so far.❤ Can't wait for the next sequel.❤
Although a lot of LofR Fans didnt like the Hobbit trilogy, because this little book was stretched into 3 movies (like butter on too much bread), i loved a lot of scenes in them, also to see a lot of the characters again. I think for the Hobbit trilogy it is better, when you havent read the book, so you can enjoy it more and dont compare it.
You can actually see the same trolls that were turned to stone here in the Fellowship of the Ring. When Sam lays Frodo down in the woods (after Frodo is stabbed by the morgal blade), Aragorn looks around the surrounding forest and you can see three giant troll "statues" in the background.
The Eagles are actually emissary of Valar(lesser). Their presence in middle earth is proof that the Valar have not abandoned the innocent people. The Eagles always nest nearby Orcs, Wargs and trolls so that they can eat them and keep the population of those fowl creatures low
I think the most important thing about these films was that the original cast came back, i truly don’t believe they would’ve been able to replace anyone.
Especially when you consider Sir Christopher Lee (Saruman) turned ninety while they were filming the Hobbit trilogy. His health had seriously declined by the time they got to the last movie, but his love for Tolkien's works was so great he stuck it out to the end. He then died a year or so later.
It's been a criminally long time since I've read the Hobbit, but I remember something someone said a while ago and it always stuck with me about the dwarves emptying out Bilbo's pantry and throwing a party. As an excuse to clean out his stores since he was to go on a long journey and all that food would have rotted away and gone to ruin. Not sure if this was the case, but it became a fun little head cannon for me. Since Gandalf was not entirely truthful to the dwarves about Bilbo agreeing to go with them. They figured to help the little fellow out and have a grand meal at the same time.
Hello. If you remember,in fellowship of the ring Bilbo was talking with children about trolls. And when Aragorn tried find athelas for Frodo, they where near 3 trolls
The Blue Wizards are named Alatar and Pallando originally, but Tolkien had other names for them as well. This follows the other Wizards, who often had different names depending on where they were. Gandalf was known as Mithrandir among the Elves, for example, and Saruman was also called Curumo.
I personally loved the way the hobbit differred from lotr. It was more fantastical and fun, much like Bilbo was with his stories, since in universe he wrote the hobbit. While Frodos lotr was much darker, since the damage and hardship he had from the ring and nazgul at the end when he wrote his book.
Gimli was the cousin of Balin, the older dwarf. In fact Gimli wanted to participate to the quest to claim back Erebor but he was too young and they didn’t allowed him to go. That’s why he went to the Rivendell later and took part of the fellowship of the Ring. Saruman was not evil yet! He was on the good side in these movies, he changed allegiance a bit later! Galadriel is one of the oldest Elves alive at that and among the last living elves of the most noble House of Elves. She is powerful as Hell, you will see how much in a future film! Many people hate the Hobbit trilogy but I love it! They say that it’s like a child story and not as good as the Lord of the Rings. Well, first the Hobbit was written by JRRTolkien years before he wrote the LotR. Hobbit was written as a child story, as an epic fantasy and magical adventure, LotR on the other hand is a bit more “serious” In this trilogy you will se more magic, more creatures, more fan staff to excite children’s minds. In LotR magic is rare, it’s more like historic storytelling etc I think you’ll enjoy it as well! Have fun!
Dwarven Relationships 101! Gimli’s Dad is Gloin and his Uncle Oin is the Dwarf with the ear trumpet. They are first cousins with Dwalin & Balin through their fathers. All four are slightly more distant cousins of Thorin. Fili & Kili are Thorin’s nephews through his sister Dis (who is not in the film). Dori, Nori & Ori are brothers who are very distantly connected to the royal line. Bofur & Bombour are brothers and Bifur is their cousin - no relation to the royal line.
I have always loved the Hobbit trilogy, it's just a fun adventure with Thorin Oakenshield being one of my favorite characters from all 6 films. The main music theme is "The Misty Mountains Cold" and is easily one of the best scores of film: right up with the main Fellowship and the Rohan themes.
Peter Jackson's production vlogs for these movies (and LotR) are fascinating. They were both massive undertakings. The process of creating Smaug is especially interesting.
Between this series and LOTR, you guys watching for the first time ooh and aah like children, and that's what makes your reactions special, :) love it, keep it up
Balin the white-bearded dwarf, is the one who´s tomb Gimli found in the Mines of Moria/Kazad-Dum in The Fellowship Of The Ring, under the ray of light before they got attacked by goblins and trolls. I tink this is a detail that most people don't realize when watching The Hobbit trilogy.
Oh YAY! We're back with more Tolkien lore! So happy to see you reacting to this trilogy. Many folks disparage it but it's still entertaining regardless of how much it differs from the novel or the added stuff that wasn't in the original story. The dwarves are so fun!
Nancy!! Hey! Thank you so much for watching and joining us for another movie night!! This one was fun!! We are loving Peter Jackson's films from Tolkien's work! The dwarves made us laugh!! Eager to see what happens next with Bilbo and the pack. Have an awesome rest of your weekend :)
@@tktopmovies You're going to love the next two installments! Smaug the dragon is one of the coolest dragons on film & he is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch. Be sure to check out all the behind the scenes stuff & how he portrayed the dragon with motion capture methods (like how Andy Serkis played Gollum) instead of just providing voice over recordings. I especially loved the parts where they talk about King Thranduil & all the fight scenes/weapons training the actors had to complete before filming even began. It's all quite fascinating. Thanks & you guys have a great weekend as well!
Also, that intro gives us a little insight as to why there was so much animosity between the races of Dwarves & Elves. Remember how Gimil acted towards Legolas at the start of LOTR when they first met at Rivendell? This is one of the reasons why he distrusted Legolas (& all elves) so much...
Amazing reaction! I can’t wait to see your reaction for the next films! I must encourage you to look at any deleted or extended scenes from this film and watch the other two as well in the extended edition formats. There’s a lot more details and possible connections to the LOTR films as well . In this film, there was a deleted or extended scene where Elrond offers a place for Bilbo a place in Riverdale. As we remember it’s the same place that Bilbo goes to stay when he gives up the ring and his old age begins to take affect. Because now we had see Bilbo witnessed Riverdale‘s beauty and peace and tranquility I love the connection to the first film with Frodo meeting Gandalf, and seeing the dwarfs cleaning Bilbo’s dishes and sing was one of my favorite moments. Also Azrog beheaded Thorin’s grandfather Thrór and his father Thráin II went mad and missing. 🧑🏽🦱🧔🏻♀️🧙🏻♂️🧝🏻♂️🗡💍🦅💚💛🤎
Hey dcemerald!!! Thank you so much for always watching with us and leaving the best comments :) We also LOVED to see the connections between the LOTR and The Hobbit characters! The dwarves are so fun, love getting to see them more!
@@tktopmovies I'd also recommend the extended versions for the remainder - in particular the 2nd movie (The Desolation of Smaug). Gives more depth to a couple specific characters
A lot of people ask about the Eagles. Here's what's up: Generally the Eagles do their own thing but they assist Gandalf when he asks because long ago the lord of the Eagles, Gwaihir, was shot by an arrow and badly injured and Gandalf came to heal him. In the deeper lore, Gwaihir is sent by Radagast to tell Gandalf the news of the Black Riders, the orcs, and that Gollum had escaped Mirkwood. Gwaihir rescues Gandalf from Orhtanc and drops him off at Edoras. Later, Galadriel sends Gwaihir to locate Gandalf after she learns about what happened in Moria. Gwaihir finds Gandalf on the Peak after defeating the Balrog. Gwaihir then carried Gandalf to Lothlorien.
Glad you've gone with the Hobbit Trilogy. It gets a lot of hate but I like it. OK it's not perfect but anything with Dwarves in has gotta be worth a look 🥰
You thought that Bilbo, the dwarves, and Gandalf were in places, or dealing with creatures, from LOTR more than once (spiders, secret door, etc.) - those are different places and situations nowhere near where these characters are. Also, it was Thorin's grandfather that was killed by Azog at Moria, not his father; this story shows how Thorin's father was not among the dead they could find after the battle. Good job remembering those things, though.
The tomb where they fought in the Mines of Moria in "The Fellowship of the Ring" was the tomb of Balin. The second dwarf to show up at Bilbo's house. Of these other dwarves, Oin and Ori also died in the Mines with Balin. The little sword is "Sting" which he gives to Frodo in Rivendell in The Lord of the Rings.
Guys the dwarf at 6:13 Balin.. White beard dwarf.. At fellowship of the ring, our crew went to Mines of Moria and there was a grave stone.. Here lies Balin.. Son of Fundin.. So gimli mourn for him.. That dwarf was this dude.. Balin.. King of Moria.. Also there was a skeleton what he wrote something.. " we cannot go out, they are coming..." So that dwarf was youngest dwarf at this crew.. It's amazing isn't it.. :D
Balin, the white bearded dwarf is Gimli's cousin. He lead another expedition to take back Moria, and although the colony did well for a while, Balin was eventual killed. It is him that Gimli wants to go see, and his tomb they find in The Fellowship of the Ring that upsets Gimli. Gloin, the red bearded dwarf that kinda looks like Gimli is Gimli's father.
Balin later led an expedition to Moria before Frodo went to Moria. Balin was buried in the room where Frodo was stabbed by the Troll. Gimli stood on his tomb. Thorin is the last of Durin’s line. The Balrog in Moria was called Durin’s Bane. Because they delved to deep.
To remember all the dwarves as they introduced themselves in the order of their arrival at Bag End (Bilbo's home in Hobbiton, the Shire): Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur and Thorin. (Gloin is Gimli's father). In The Fellowship of the Ring, when they took the path through the Mines of Moria, aka Khazad-dûm, or the Dwarrowdelf, Gimli was grieving over Balin's tomb when he found it. While it was Oin that was holding the book that he had been writing in when Gandalf took it from his skeleton and read from it. Cheers love you guys!
I really liked what they set up in this movie with Thorin having organized this expedition as an elaborate suicide to escape his crushing responsibilities as the leader of a failing people, but then they don't do anything with it... and they just keep cramming in more stuff rather than developing anything that gets set up. So much stuff just goes away and is never mentioned again which is always a good sign that it should have been cut from the story.
I believe one of our better concert venues, the Center in the Square, that hosts the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra have done screenings of LOTR and provided a live score. I would love to see it if they do it again. I don't know if you guys have seen Wednesday yet, if you haven't you should, but I swear to God you could be Enid Sinclair's groovy aunt.
OMG if you have the chance to go see that, that would be SO epic! The live score would sound so beautiful. Thank you so much for watching, Ron!! We really do appreciate that so much :) And LOL!!! Enid Sinclair's "GROOVY AUNT"! Ha, I LOVE THAT!!!! We did watch Wednesday when it first came out (we didn't film our reaction) but it was great!
Gimli is the son of Gloin. And Balin is a cousin to both Gloin and Gimli. 60 years after this movie, In Fellowship of the Ring, remember it’s Balins’ tomb that they find in the Mines of Moria before Pippin accidentally alerts the orcs to their presence and gets them attacked. Soon after, Gandalf fights the Balrog.
The ring doesn't really affect Bilbo this early on. It is only just awakening, so throughout the book it really only seems like a ring that makes you invisible and nothing more.
I really love how excited and eager you both are to theorize and explore. Constantly looking for connections between things and predicting what might happen next. You're not afraid to be wrong, always engaging and trying to fit different pieces of the puzzle together.
There ARE concerts where there is a full orchestra playing to scenes from the films. I've been to one of the LOTR ones, and Star Trek, it's a really cool experience that while watching the screen, the orchestra is playing all the music and you forget that it was all done live. It was really great.
you may not remember this but in LOTR The Fellowship of the Ring, Bilbo told the story about the Trolls being turned to stone on his birthday party to the little kids
His grandfather was killed at Moria After the events of this trilogy, Balin tried to retake Moria. The fellowship comes upon his tomb when they venture thru Moria. Also, Gloin is in the party to retake Erebor. He's Gimli's father Also these are the same trolls Bilbo speaks of at his party to the little kids and you see them after Frodo was stabbed at Weathertop
Lord of the Rings is the sequel to the Hobbit. There is. Book called the Silmarillion which is the Creation Story of Middle Earth. There is enough material for 12 more movies. The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings are merely a culmination of the struggle that started with the Creation. When you hear the name of Beren and Luthien and the Light of Earindill they are all part of the creation. Galadriel is Elronds mother in law.
Gimli son of Gloin ... it's how he's introduced in Rivendell in LOTR ( if I remember correctly Legolas is son of Tharanduil the King / Lord of the Wood Elves )
The extended version has more content and information that is left out, one piece of info was what really made the elves and dwarves start hating each other was a set of jewels.
Not every cave is the tunnel at Cirith Ungol, not every ghost is an Oathbreaker, not every magical door is in Erebor, not every cavern is in Isengard and not every Spider is Shelob :')
In my opinion, when it comes to Middle-Earth one should always watch the extended edition. So I'm hoping for the remaining two parts you watch the extended editions.
So glad you are watching this trilogy now. You are going to learn a lot going forward. There are so many aspects to watch and try to figure out how everything comes together. Things only get better. Yes, Gimli is a descendant from one of the dwarves. Can't wait for the next movie.
I see that you guys have an Ed Sheeran picture in the back he did the end song for one of these movies as well as Billy boy did one for one of these I'm so happy you guys are going through these ones now
I have always loved Radagast and found his character very interesting. I love that they expanded on him a bit in the films. There isn’t too much with him in the book.
SQUEEEEEE! You're back, with the Hobbit! I'm so looking forward to all of this! Your reactions are so amazing and enthusiastic and vibrant! I love your channel! I'll be waiting with my popcorn for the second movie!
The Hobbit was written in 1937. The Lord of the Rings was written in stages after that. so the Hobbit isn't a prequel. The Dragon attacked many years before the Hobbit. Checkout Misty Mountains - Peter Hollens feat. Tim Foust on TH-cam
We must understand the differences between those two adaptations of Tolkien's universum : LOTR trilogy is 3 long movies made from 1200+ pages book. H-trilogy is 3 long movies made from 250 pages book. LOTR trilogy was made when most of FX was made as physical effects with many CGI scenes also but blended more or less. H-trilogy was made when the CGI was too easily done to NOT be overly used. And I guess they got too short time for NOT using it a lot - as I guess building smt takes more time than drawing smt in computer. LOTR trilogy was made for 9 years H-trilogy was made for 4 years. LOTR trilogy was about making alliances before the war with Sauron. H-trilogy was about the world mostly separated by many interests long before the war with Sauron. LOTR trilogy was about desire of power. H-trilogy was about "dragon sickness" which is greed of gold. LOTR trilogy was about hobbits and elves. H-trilogy was about dwarves and a hobbit. LOTR trilogy was more epic and dark - a suiside mission with the stakes as high as the eternal enslavement of the world by satanic power. H-trilogy was more fun and comedy and adventure becouse it was made from childrens adventure book with lots of satire and comedy with the stakes as high as fighting one dragon for a gold treasure. But all in all H-trilogy is a realy good movie with great roles and lots of new areas of Middle-Earth to explore - its about eastern parts not about Gondor, Rohan but about the region of Rhovanion with different places and cultures. Tolkien's work is deemed as the one which created a mix of christianity and northern myths (Norse and Celtic). And IMO at the time when the new trilogy was made not many of us, fans would've noticed that the new trilogy is MORE christianic than the old trilogy was :) Its what I can see in there. Between the heroes of the good side there are persons who represent more "pagan" ethics and those who represent more "christian" ethics. And these two behaviours are constantly arguing with each other. Remember that this fairytale is not about "good and evil" persons, its about two different cultural approaches (christian and pagan) to values - heroism, power, forgiveness. "The hobbit" trilogy is interesting becouse on the good side there are two different worldviews of how to realise higher values. IMO Tolkien's literature got its distinct flavour becouse he purposefuly had mixed two worlds of ethics. In the interpetations of his books we fans can tell you much about a mix of these two areas - pagan and christian ethics. Or rather what he deemed as northern pagan ethics. And also for me the new Jackson's trilogy is connected to what Tolkien told in his essays and letters about how to write fairytales. As far as I can tell from reading his other texts (not novels) Tolkien got the idea that this genre is important becouse of its escapism ( and escapism in Tolkien's view tells of freedom ! ) and becouse of its intrinsic topic of moral values. And Tolkien thinks that when a writer wants to write a myth he must remember that myth is more pagan but when he writes a fairytale it can be or should be more christian. He sort of connected pagan North with christianity by mixing myths and fairytales in his own universum. In his idea modern fantasy should be based on both myths and fairytales. The LOTR trilogy has more a vibe of myth but "the hobbit" trilogy has more a vibe of fairytale, though at the end matters have darkened. But remember that the stakes in the new trilogy are not so high - they are not yet saving the world but rather fighting a local war. The new trilogy is also more political than the old trilogy. By political I dont mean todays ideologies but a strive between 2 great leaders with different interests but mutual grudges. For me the vibe of "the hobbit" trilogy is great becouse it connects me with what Tolkien invented about the functions of pagan - myth and of christian - fairytale. For Tolkien well written fairytale should be a realisation of its highest goal, and this goal is eucatastrophe and eucatastrophe is one of the main values of fantasy - its a kind of happy end but more of a spiritual nature, not only the winning of a war. I can write an essay about the aspects of eucatastrophe but... :D The main reason I like "the hobbit" trilogy is that Jackson had adapted it such way that he made it as prequel of LOTR and becouse of this he accentuated more the Ring's and Gollum's story in it which effect for the "vibes" of the new trilogy was that these "vibes" IMO started to become less pagan than LOTR trilogy. IMO LOTR is constantly paganic in its "vibes" with the grand finale of more "christianic" nature (forgiveness saves them at the end as Frodo spares Gollums life and so Gollum can save Frodo's soul from becoming Dark Lord, or Dark Lord's slave) - at the crucial few scenes in ROTK. IMO "the hobbit" trilogy was filmed as a constant "debate" or intermingling between these two ethics (esp shown by debates between Bilbo and dwarves and Gandalf and dwarves) but the "christianic" ethics (and its representants) wins at the end. The only reason that LOTR movies "grand finale" could be achieved was that in "the hobbit" trilogy we got this "christianity apprach" of fairytale winning over "pagan ethics" of myth - in the persons of Bilbo and Gandalf and Bard - those people strive into hope while "pagan", "norse" ethics of dwarves is more fatalistic and about revenge. As the representants of "paganic" ethics in LOTR were Rohan and Gondor, the representants of "paganic" ethics in "the hobbit" are dwarves.
It's a shame that you didn't watch the Extended Edition of An Unexpected Journey, cuz you miss out a lot of nice scenes and moments such as, in the prolougue you see Thranduil (Legolas' dad and the king of Mirkwood) being denied a set of gems called The Gem's of Lasgalen (which are revealed in The Battle of Five Armies), which is the reason why the elf king doesn't help the dwarves fight Smaug, during the attack of Dale, Lord Girion (who was Bard's ancestor) attempts to shoot Smaug with black arrows but they bounce of his strong scales, after Thorin having to do smithy work for a living, there's a scene at Old Took's party (Bilbo's granpa on his mom's side) where Gandalf like in Fellowship fired fireworks and meeting Bilbo for the first time as a child, a scene at the market where Bilbo thinks he had been followed by Gandalf but turns out he saw a grey pillow that resembled the wizard's hat, at Bilbo's "party" there's an extra scene with Bifur being unable to speak common tounge and only dwafish because of the axe sticking to his head, you see a longer version of the feast at Rivendell including Bofur sining Man in the Moon (which was from the Fellowshup book where Frodo tries to distract the inn folk at Bree when Pippin begins to talk about Bilbo's disappearance, he sings Man in the Moon, a song Bilbo made up, but then slips and accidently puts the Ring on) and the dwarves have a food fight to the chagrin of the elves, Bilbo spends time alone in Rivendell including seeing the painting of Sauron attacking Isildur from the prolouge and see The Ring on Sauron's finger as a foreshadowing and becomes friends with Elrond, before the meeting Gandalf and Elrond discuss about Thorin might be driven to madness like his grandfather did, during the meeting Gandalf brings up the issue of Thror's Ring of Power which disappeared along with Thorin's dad Thráin and the Great Goblin scene is extended quite a bit, starting out with him singing Down, Down to Goblin Town, then goblins loot through Nori's (the dwarf with star shaped hairdo and beard, played Jed Brophy who played Snaga the orc, Sharku the Warg rider leader, the Rohan soilder who finds Théodred, plus several orcs and a riding double including Rohan and Gondorean riders in LOTR plus being in many Peter Jackson films including Braindead/Dead Alive and King Kong) sack of goods he stole from Rivendell including a candle holder and The Great Goblin interrogates Oín and Bofur.
i believe the Arkenstone is a Silmarillion. the one in the hand the wolf bit off. yes, no one is suppose to be able to hold a Simaaril but maybe over time it changed. or the tale was embellished. like all tales.
That Silmaril became the star Earendil. Maedhros threw his into a fiery chasm, so it's a candidate. But I don't think Tolkien intended it--the whole point, and it's very fitting, is that the Silmarils were lost forever--one in the sea, one in the earth, and one in the sky.

Fun fact: Ian Holm also was Frodo in an epic audio dramatization of The Lord of the Rings.
Amazing actor! RIP 😭💔
Welcome back guys. Remember after the FELLOWSHIP was formed in LOTR, Gimli was trying to convince Gandalf to go through the Mines of Moria. Gimli mentions that his cousin BALIN would give them a “right royal welcome”.
don't forget that Gimli is son of Gloin who is one of the 13 dwarves .
And Oin gets eaten by the Watcher in the water outside Moria. 💔😭
AFAIR they made some special makeup for Ian Holm - Bilbo to de-age him though, it was not just CGI but phisical effects.
@@TallisKeeton If they did, they didn't do a very good job. He's noticeably older and more jowly looking. I only know of using special makeup and effects to make Ian Holm look younger in The Lord of the Rings when Bilbo first found the ring.
I'm pretty sure they used no de-aging CGI on Elijah Wood, and certainly not on Ian McKellen.
Is the spider the same species? or is it completely unrelated?
I don't know if anyone told you this in the comments yet, but the chapter in The Hobbit where the Goblins attack them and they climb the trees, start the fire, and the Eagles show up is actually titled, "Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire"... Awesome that you said "Out of the frying pan," just by coincidence, when the goblins showed up at that point in the movie! Great instincts!
I noticed that too
The first chapter of The Hobbit was "An Unexpected Party," and the first chapter of LOTR was "A Long-expected Party."
In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit - not a nasty, dirty, wet hole filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit hole, and that means comfort.
Just a query mate, is the dead Dwarf holding the book in Moria Oin or is it Ori?
@@eddhardy1054 yes, it is Ori, you are right. I made a mistake. Sorry. I corrected it. Thanks
@@katarinac7457 No worries mate, I wasn't certain myself 😊
They show this conection in movie 2, you kinda spoiled it to them.
and Balin is the king in the tomb. nd his brother Dwalin was eaten by Watcher in the Water.
Gimli, son of Gloin, The beginning narrative is right from the book. I'm glad you're enjoying it.
The Eagles always nest nearby Orcs, Wargs and trolls so that they can eat them and keep the population of those fowl creatures low
the Middle Earth map is the one my Dungeon Master used on my first adventure back in 1975. love it.
I think the most important thing about these films was that the original cast came back, i truly don’t believe they would’ve been able to replace anyone.
LOVE that!!!!
"it was pity which stayed Bilbo's hand."
20:58 mark - yes, Gimli is the son of Gloin, who is part of this group going to The Lonely Mountain.
Hobbit was written as a child story, as an epic fantasy and magical adventure, LotR on the other hand is a bit more “serious”
In this trilogy you will se more magic, more creatures, more fan staff to excite children’s minds. In LotR magic is rare, it’s more like historic storytelling etc
I think you’ll enjoy it as well! Have fun!
i like how each chapter heading of The Hobbit is mentioned. An Unexpected Journey... Out Of The Pot And Into The Fire... The Front Porch...
I'm happy you guys finally made it to The Hobbit Trilogy! I hope you both enjoy it!
Between this series and LOTR, you guys watching for the first time ooh and aah like children, and that's what makes your reactions special, :) love it, keep it up
Hahah we are loving the movies!! Thank you so much for watching! :)
Hi Loves! So glad you decided to do the Hobbit films so quickly. I hoped you would. You are going to love this a lot.
But
"It's a pity that Bilbo didn't slay him when he had his chance"
"Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand"
Yes, Gimli's father, Gloin is part of the party. He does show up in fellowship of the ring alongside Gimli at Elrond't council
Small correction, it's Rivendell, not Riverdale.
Gloin, the red bearded dwarf that kinda looks like Gimli is Gimli's father.
isn't it funny how in the lord of the rings, Borimir, when he sees the ring says, "the answer to all the riddles".
Lord of the Rings: 3-5 years of pre - production preparation before shooting deadline
The Hobbit: a few months of preparation before shooting deadline
The main theme of lord of the rings was hope. For the hobbit, it is greed
25:27 The true dwarf!
LOL!!!
So glad you decided to do this too!
Thanks Daniel! We are thrilled to watch the movies! The Hobbit won on our Community Post poll! Woohoo!
Gloin is Gimli's father.
Ahhh thank you, Ben! That is exactly the question we needed an answer to!! Gloin = Gimli's father. Got it! Thanks for watching with us :)
Why would you give a spoiler like that? Shame on you.
@@Big_Tex She asked. Besides in Lotr Gimli is often called Gimli, son of Gloin. So it wasn’t a secret if you payed attention.
When Bilbo is talking to Gollem they are doing a chapter in The Hobbit called Riddles In The Dark!
Quickly becoming one of my favorite reaction channel ❤
Hey Julia!!! Thank you so much for watching FIRST! We appreciate that so much! You're awesome!!
When the trolls turn to stone, years later Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin stumble across them in the Fellowship of the Ring.
18:05...Guys they're still near the Shire and nowhere near Mordor (where Frodo and Sam had spider trouble).
you may not remember this but in LOTR The Fellowship of the Ring, Bilbo told the story about the Trolls being turned to stone on his birthday party to the little kids
Love that popcorn intro❤❤❤!!
Those was goblins that capture them. Loving ya'll's reactions to both the LOR and The Hobbit.
Ooooh they were creepy! Thanks for watching, Roger :)
Another little observation, but Bilbo told the story of the trolls to the kids at his birthday party in the fellowship of the ring!
His grandfather was killed at Moria
After the events of this trilogy, Balin tried to retake Moria. The fellowship comes upon his tomb when they venture thru Moria.
Also, Gloin is in the party to retake Erebor. He's Gimli's father
Also these are the same trolls Bilbo speaks of at his party to the little kids and you see them after Frodo was stabbed at Weathertop
You two should hear the bass singer from Home Free sing Misty Mountains Cold. 😉
Oooooh!
@@tktopmovies maybe, do a reaction…
Guys look at 15:26 situation... At the lord of the rings.. At the bilbo's birthday, Bilbo told this situation as a story for kids.. remember :D
Not every cave is the tunnel at Cirith Ungol, not every ghost is an Oathbreaker, not every magical door is in Erebor, not every cavern is in Isengard and not every Spider is Shelob :')
you are going to be pleasantly surprised in the 2nd film NO IM NOT giving spoilers!! TY TY for starting on the hobbit movies more fun to come!

Azog the Orc did not kill Thorin's father, but his grandfather, King Thror.
In my opinion, when it comes to Middle-Earth one should always watch the extended edition. So I'm hoping for the remaining two parts you watch the extended editions.
Gimli is Gloin's son, one of the 13 dwarves !!
in the Troll caves we once again see Gandalf use the elven ring given him. it's power to encourage.
It was his Grandfather that was killed his father went missing.
I adore PJ team for those prologues of theirs, they are so talented in piling up huge amount of info about the world background in realy short time :)
Gandalf uses the moth to call the eagles for help just like he did twice in the lord of the rings

Only one little piece where he accidentally saves Gandalf's life. Wish they had expanded a bit on the other wizards.

The Hobbit was written in 1937. The Lord of the Rings was written in stages after that. so the Hobbit isn't a prequel. The Dragon attacked many years before the Hobbit. Checkout Misty Mountains - Peter Hollens feat. Tim Foust on TH-cam
these are ..."Bilbo's trolls." were Frodo lies wounded from the Witch King's stab.
We must understand the differences between those two adaptations of Tolkien's universum :
LOTR trilogy is 3 long movies made from 1200+ pages book.
LOTR trilogy was made for 9 years
H-trilogy was made for 4 years.
