- I finally watch THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY (2012) for the FIRST TIME!
Movie Summary:
Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) lives a simple life with his fellow hobbits in the shire, until the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) arrives and convinces him to join a group of dwarves on a quest to reclaim the kingdom of Erebor. The journey takes Bilbo on a path through treacherous lands swarming with orcs, goblins and other dangers, not the least of which is an encounter with Gollum (Andy Serkis) and a simple gold ring that is tied to the fate of Middle Earth in ways Bilbo cannot even fathom.

I will be doing all of *the lord of the rings* movies with my sister afterwards! She has not seen them!
Excited to jump into those! Stay tuned✨
I was coming here to suggest watching again. Col looking forward to it.
Looking forward to those.
Fool of a Took!
I'm sure you know this but the trolls that got petrified were in the fellowship of the ring when merry talked about the legend of bilbo when frodo got stabbed
I’m soooo excited ❤❤❤
Fun fact: Gandalfs actor had to do all his scenes by himself because he was so much bigger they just cgi them. But he actually just acted the scenes completely by himself with no other actors. He says that he almost gave up because it made him really sad doing everything himself
That is hard for actors. It happens more and more.😢
there was a behind the scenes footage of ian mckellen acting by himself, surrounded by green screens. he was in the middle of acting but just completely broke down, not in tears, but in obvious disappointment. i felt bad for him :((
If Bilbo had killed Gollum then Frodo would have failed.
Gandalf is played by Sir Ian McKellen. Thankfully he's still with us, but he fell off the stage a few weeks ago whilst performing at a theatre. He's now out of hospital but had to leave the play to recover -x-
Saruman is played by British legend Christopher Lee. He plays Count Dooku is Star Wars. He's also played Drakula the most number of times. He's the half cousin of Ian Fleming who created James Bond -x-
and he is the only one from the filming crew who actually knew Tolkien :)
and he is the only one from the filming crew who actually knew Tolkien :)
"the Elves are the rich ones" - you literally saw the Dwarves with a mountain full of gold and gems LOL
Rich is more than gold.
The reason for the music is because they're actually singing in the books a lot of Tolkien's writings are poems and songs in the books. Many, many, of them. He also created languages which I'm sure you know by now.
Can't say enough about Christopher Lee. The only cast/crew member who actually knew Tolkien. Step cousin to Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond, and it is believed that Lee was largely Fleming's model for James Bond. He would appear in a Bond movie later as a villain, the man with the golden gun. Tutored Peter Jackson on what actually happens when you stab someone in the back, speaking from his extensive military/special forces experience.
Of course, he is most popularly known for his association with Hammer horror, being one of the most famous modern actors to play Dracula.
He was one of the greatest gifts Tolkien fans could get in these movies.
Perigrin...fool of a took , remember? Bilbo's nephew
Yo .. that's CHRISTOPHER LEE bro... truly an impressive man...not just as an horror movie actor either.. EXTREMELY accomplished...was literally a government spy that killed ppl all the way to being a lead singer in a heavy metal band😂..look him up . he's an ICON 🤘🔥🤘
The songs you’re hearing in the movie are actually in the book… there’s even a few that aren’t in the movie!! I was in a theater when the Preview for this was played… people were staring at me cause I was singing along with the songs… my ex told them I loved the books…
The Hobbit was the first book I ever read myself. I still have the copy my mom gave me when I was 6… (51 now)…
Saruman is Christopher Lee and he made 266 films, including Star Wars and James Bond films.
Sir Chrisopher Lee. Has over 200 acting credits . He was in a lot of horror movies in the 60s . He was also in Star Wars Attack of the Clones.
Another fun fact is that he read Lord of the Rings every year.
Sadly, we lost him in 2015. Great reaction .
Christopher Lee was Ian Fleming's first cousin (Fleming wrote the James Bond stories), and as a former member of British Intelligence, Lee hoped to play James Bond in the movies. Instead, he played a Bond villain, Scaramanga, in The Man With The Golden Gun (1974). I also enjoyed his turn in The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers (1974 and 1975).
Lee was the only cast member of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies to meet Prof. Tolkien in person.
I think the correct question is, why are yeezys shaped like hobbits feet?? 😂
I love all 3 of the hobbit movies tbh
Love your reaction. MINOR SPOILER: The red-haired dwarf who asks if the elves are insulting them when they first get to Rivendell is Gimli’s dad.
I enjoy watching your reactions....but just know, for the first 5 minutes, I was getting onto you for not knowing the size of Hobbits feet, forgetting Aragorn's name....for not knowing Gandalf is a main character in the Hobbit! 😂
Keep in mind, this was based off of one much shorter book opposed to the Lord of the Rings that they stretched out into a trilogy. Absolutely worth watching to see some more lore and familiar friendly faces but will never be as good in my opinion. But I'm no gatekeeper, enjoy the journey.
"Imagine eating a BLOCK of cheese"
Don't you judge me.
Love the hobbits trilogy! They really show you more of middle earth and character’s backstories. I actually watched the hobbits before lotr and loved it. Can't wait for you to react the the next two, it just gets better from here!
The dude who plays Gandalf is still alive, in a recent interview he said he knows he's getting up there though and he's likely to stop acting in movies soonish. Mostly he seems to just like hanging out with his husband raising their rescue dogs and doing stage work whenever he feels like it
Also I think the elves and the wizards are all technically spirits that have merely adorned themselves with human suits. When they first showed up in the world they were actually all nudists because they had never thought to put clothes on top of their clothes.
And hey, if anybody reading this has lived in a city in america, you know occasionally god drops a smiegle in your lap and you gotta play riddles with a crackhead for awhile until the bus shows up because it's easier to jaw with an obviously mental person than to ignore them, the alternative is being screamed at and potentially assaulted and robbed
Saurman was played by Sir Christopher Lee (RIP), who has acted in so many movies, even started his own metal band, and was a MI6 agent during WW2. But as far as modern movies he was in the Star Wars prequel trilogy as Count Dooku
1:13:47 If Bilbo had killed Gollum, Frodo would've kept the Ring and Sauron would've returned
“My heart tells me that he has some part to play yet, for good or ill, before the end; and when that comes, the pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many- yours not least.”
Remember?
Lady Galadriel is the oldest and the strongest, you will see why
Heck yessss LOVE these movies. You’d loveeee Hobbiton if ever you got over to NZ - you can visit, have a feast, it’s sick 🧙🏻♀️
The next movie is one of the most epic movies of both trilogies it really ramps up the action, emotions, and terror. The third movie is a masterpiece it has one of the most epic fantasy battle scenes of all time where Elron, Galadrial, Gandalf and Saruman (when he was good) fight the Nasgul.
I listen to this sound track when having a Bath to just relax and pretend I’m somewhere else 😊
Also YES - always like videos, if I find myself clicking a video I know I’m going to watch for more than five mins I ALWAYS hit like. It takes no effort and it’s a tiny favour to pay for the time taken to make these vids ❤ let’s make it a habit folks
Appreciate you so much bud 🤞🏽♥️🔥🔥
I'm so happy that you are watching this trilogye!!! Don't mind the haters… just keep doing it!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
I can pick the Hobbit trilogy to death comparing it to LOTR, but it’s a lot more fun to watch it and enjoy it for what they did great.
My Favorite Book & Movie Series Of All Time! This Is The Of Billbo The Great Grand Uncle!😢😮🙆♀️🥰🧙♂️🧝♀️🐉🖥💗
LOTR and Harry Potter and the Hobbit books and movies are all-time favorites. I saw LOTR and the hobbit movies the day each one came out. They were all too short for me! 23 hours would have been a good length for LOTR! 🤣
The sandy hook school massacre happened the day one movie came out.😔🙏🏽
Over a few decades I read the Hobbit and LOTR once or twice a year.
I can’t remember if I read Harry Potter books first or saw a movie first. When I picked up the first book I couldn’t put it down and had to read them all. As an adult I was very impressed by both the HP books and movies.
The Hobbit book doesn’t have all the wars and fighting that the movies do. That was added to appeal to male viewers of all ages.
My favorite character was left out of LOTR, Tom Bombadil and Goldberry. I haven’t gotten over it.😢
I’m almost 70 by the way!😂
Next The Hobbit Extended Edition Of The Desolation Of Smaug Extended Edition
We all had to wait 10 years for this after LOTR. Feel lucky.
omg i am so excited to watch these reviews!
At the time of Thorin's quest (in the books) Aragorn would have been being fostered by Elrond in Rivendell, but he would have only been 10 years old. The timeline of the films is different enough that Aragorn has already reached adulthood and is wandering in the Wild as a young Ranger.
In Tolkien's original book, Azog was dead long before the events of the Quest of Erebor. It was an interesting decision to keep him alive for the films.
I liked seeing Balin who had a non-speaking role in FOTR, along with Ori, who was holding the book that Gandalf read them.
OMG I love both franchise! me and my family has watched both of them 10x over, and I've play'd the games, including the Lego ones LOL, as well as read the books. Both trilogies are just so amazing and magical, it so hard not to just want to jump into this world of Middle earth, preferably not during a war though.
So someone here will probably correct me (and likely will), but wizards never "die," they are similar to the elves where they travel back to the land where they came from and then die and then come back to life after a time. This is how Gandalf became the White. When elves die in battle they have judgement passed and a sentence so they can be brought back, if at all.
As for Saruman, you were right that he was in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but he was also Count Dooku from the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
As for why I think this series get the hate it gets, is because the story with those orcs chasing them was not part of the original story, that was added in as filler and the CGI is really underwhelming for what they did for the first series. If you got the time and enjoy reading, I'd definitely recommend this book. It's short but jam-packed.
I love the lotr and hobbit soundtrack and the dwarf theme is maybe one of my favs out of all of them...i also rlly like how they introduced it in the beginning with the song they sang at bilbo's house.
(just a little detail you might have missed:))
"what are those? like ... giant hawks?" ....... dude, you forgot the eagles?? :D THE eagles?
People have mixed feelings about these movies because they contain a lot of filler. The Hobbit was a light children's book, and they had to add a lot of new material to drag it out to the same length as LOTR. For comparison, Fellowship of the Ring covers roughly the first 400 pages of the LOTR books. An Unexpected Journey covers the first 100 pages of the children's book, yet takes up as much screen time.
What is in the book: the dwarves singing while tossing Bilbo's plates around, the incident with the mountain trolls, finding the ring and playing riddles with Gollum, and escaping the goblins. What is not in the book: anything Gandalf does when he's not with the dwarves (no Saruman, no Galadriel), and being chased by orcs. Being hunted by orcs was added to make everything seem more urgent.
When Bilbo and company are in the trees (in the book) they are simply still being chased by the goblins from the mountain.
There is too much in these movies to love to worry about all that though. Just enjoy the beautiful world and the music and everything.
In the books they were always singing tunes. You would have to come up with your own tune And Composition in your head while reading the words
Awesome reaction of my favorite The Hobbit movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
While the first is a fairly solid movie, the trilogy as a whole is generally not particularly appealing to many. This is for a few reasons: 1) they filmed them in 48 frames per second and in 3D. It was super distracting and felt gimmicky. 2) Initially, it was meant to be two movies. And then because of studio interference, they spread it across three. And there was probably only enough story for 2.5 movies in total. So, there is a lot of filler in the second movie. And the third was a big action set, that could have been more effective by being shorter and having less obvious CGI.
3) this series was supposed to be directed by Guillermo del Toro. But because of rights issues with MGM, he ended up having to leave because of contractual obligations. PJ stepped in literally last minute (like 2-3 months before filming began) and had to adjust everything to his aesthetic, and ended up in the hospital for stress or something because of the pressure. It was not as natural as production nor was it as organic as LoTR and it shows in places. Some elements seem extremely forced as the series progresses.
I wouldn't say the elves are the richest ones. Dwarves are unmatched when it comes to mining and wealth is subjective anyway. Elves kinda have like...an elegance to them. Given their age, they are more mature, respectful towards one another, and set it their ways, but that also makes them more arrogant and ....upper crusty. Even dwarf elders or old men and women can seem like children (emotionally/mentally) to them. I'd visit an elf. Party with a Dwarf, but live with Hobbits, and most def avoid man kind if I were in middle earth. Personally I love the elvish craftsmanship and aesthetics.
From what I understand the reason people didnt like this seems to be that they were expecting an epic of the same vibe as lord of the rings.
Both trilogies are amazing.
They both have their own unique vibe and are telling different stories. Same world different stories from the perspective of different people.
This difference is even more obvious in the books because the hobbit was more a children's fantasy tale that Tolkien wrote for his children while the lord of the rings is more of an epic tale inspired by his time in WW1.
In fact he actually rewrote the hobbit after it was published so that he could make a lord of the rings fit better/make sense.
I wont specify how in case of spoilers for the ones who dont know.
Saruman's actor Christopher Lee was the inspiration to James Bond.
The songs are from the book. There was a lot of singing in Lord of the Rings as well, but most was cut out. A bit more in The Hobbit
Yes Sir Ian McKellen is still alive and Christopher Lee started his movie career in 1948 and unfortunately he passed away in 2015.
And so the story goes is that The Hobbit movies were a rush job, the movie studio wanted another Lord of rings movies done. That why the CGI is subpar compared to the original LOTR which more practical effects and less CGI, and a lot of thing were not in the book.
Yes, they are in production of a new movie called The Hunt for Gollum and Andy Serkis will direct the movie and Peter will be involved with the movie, it will out in 2026. Now there will be an animated coming out called Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim which is 200 years before the Hobbit movies and that will be out in Dec 13 of this year.
Many of the actors in these trilogies are stage actors who do a big movie or 5 for the big paycheck and name recognition so that they can, again, return to the stage where they get very little international press. Elijah did a great comedic job in his sitcom with Jim Jefferies playing a dog that only Elijah can see as a person in a dog costume.
There were a lot of songs in the Hobbit book, so that’s where this movie is taking them from. Plus, the Hobbit is more for children than the Lord of the Rings was, so it’s okay that it’s a little sillier. I think one of the reasons why some people don’t like the Hobbit movies as well as LotR is because it is silly in places, whereas LotR was a lot more serious. But if you take the Hobbit and watch it as its own thing, and not compare it to the other trilogy, there’s no reason not to enjoy it.
We want PT 222222!!!!!
I just finished rewatching the Hobbit trilogy, and I’m about half-way thru Two Towers. It’s fun to watch the two trilogies in chronological order.
The Term is the straw that broke the camel's back , but it could be a feather but might have to be determined if it's an african swallow or European swallow
Go to Ireland, if you like Celtic music.
My favorite Elijah Wood movie (thats not LOTR) is "The Good Son" and second is "Radio Flyer"
Great reaction - looking forward to the rest!
My favourite Elijah Wood movie is "The Good son" with Macaulay Culkin
Something i always wondered about The Lord Of The Rings movies and The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey is why the Trolls in The Hobbit an Unexpected Journey could talk and turned to stone when light from the Sun hit them but in The Lord Of The Rings movies the Trolls couldn't talk and the Sun had no effect on them oh yeah and something that i think is cool about these movies is that somewhere at the beginning of The Lord Of The Rings The Fellowship Of The Ring Frodo and Gandalf are having a conversation and Frodo ask Gandalf to tell him the story of the Dragon and of course the Dragon being Smaug
The main guy of Lord of the Rings is Aragorn and he would've been ten years old during this timeline and living in Rivendell
I laughed when you said you would have had on timbs,in my head I said he has on natural yeezys.
The Good Son (1993) it’s a horror drama starring little Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin 10/10
You should show them to your sister in the order they came out, it's much more fun to see all the cameos and tidbits, like the sword for example
Love seeing others love these movies & LOTR as much as I do. Mr Flicks, dude you so need to plan a visit here to New Zealand, visit all the locations (many public so you don't have to do a tour), & go to Hobbiton. I've been 3 times & will go again, and because they have "wprking" gardens it looks different at different times of the yr.
As far as the council technically the wizards should be more powerful but possibly not in the wizard form. The elves origionally wanted Gandalf to take the head position of the wizards but he declined. Saruman resented not being 1sr choice, & likely knew that they saw his want of power & didn't like how obsessed he was with researching all the rings & the one ring.
Saruman was Count Dooku in Star Wars Ep. 2
I agreed the lord of the rings and Harry Potter are my two visuals and music movies. I have their soundtracks on my phone when I need to feel something again.
Also closet but in anime form is studio Ghibli films 😅
51:00 that's count Dooku from Star Wars
Trilogy The Hobbit Extended Edition Of The Adventures Of Bilbo Baggin:

(3) The Battle Five Armie Extended Edition
Next Trilogy The Lord Of The Ring Extended Edition:
(1) The Felloship Of The Ring Extended Edition
(2) The Two Tower Extended Edition
(3) The Return Of The King Extended Edition
Music with no words is not called “Soundtrack music” you’re looking for “Instrumental”
This film is fine. The problem is 80% of the 100 some page book is in this film, and there's still 2 more 3+ hour movies full of random crap.
Christopher Lee was also in star wars episode 2 and 3
The next two movies are epic asf.
Give a listen to "far over the misty mountains cold - clamavi de profundis"
Guarantee you'll love it.
And Geoff Castalluci! He does "I See Fire" too! Brilliant productions!
@@SixFour0391yeeesss geof does it soooooooooo good!
My favorite Elijah Woods movie(s) other than LOTR, would be The Good Son and Cooties (was better than I thought it would be lol)
You like soundtracks not sure if you heard Dances with Wolves. Old but good.
the actor who plays Saron is in star wars
You asked why this movie wasn't well liked, it's for a couple reasons. Some of the action is WAY too over the top, like, you were getting confused during some of the fights, right? Also, the songs... they're really out of place. The really deep low song that the dwarves sing before leaving the shire is the only one that feels like it fits, the others are super goofy. There's a whole, kind of awkward love story that was added for no reason and felt weird in later moves... honestly, they had to add a BUNCH of extra stuff to stretch the story over 3 whole movies, since this was just one book. And... well, some of the CGI is... less good in the later movies. As time goes on, it starts to become clear that the cg artists were being rushed HARD CORE.
You see more of the dragon in the second and third which is played by the dragon strange actor
Top movie score: the last of the Mohicans
Add that to your top 5.
OMG NOT THE HOBBIT
I loved the good son but my fav is the faculty
There is alot you don't remember from the LOTR films, like the hawks loll
Cod and fresh tuna
My favorite Elijah Wood movie is Back To The Future.
you should check out the desolation of smaug and the battle of five armies next.
Best movie of wood is green street hooligans ❤
Why do you say "ass" as an adjective in nearly every sentence? lol
you should react to the amazon series
You should do descendants later on
They are uglier because they are Goblins not orcs. The large one is the goblin king, orcs only answer to Sauron. Glad you finally settled down. Because early in the movie you were quite irritating. Food for thought.
Rocking the meat mittens with martial arts will get you nowhere except in a bar. I studied kempo and never used it, but have had to use other weapons a few times and a katana isn't the answer either so good luck with that. Just saying from experience.✌
A lot of people didn’t like this series because of all of the CGI
They’re not orcs they are trolls
The dude doesn't even look like a dwarf but they even forgot to make him look short at 16:29
Sauramon count duku star wars teeth give it away
SECOND 💀
please for the love of all things NEVER use the name of harry porker in the same sentence as these works of sheer genius!.... never ever!
Jesus died for your sins on the cross. Repent and put your faith in Jesus Christ alone. Sin is the breaking of God’s law such as lying, stealing, taking God’s name in vain, looking at a woman with lust, or getting drunk. Repenting means to pray to God, saying you are sorry, and to ask for forgiveness. It also means to turn away from your sin or try to not do it anymore. Follow Jesus for the rest of your days and he will give you eternal life.
Best fight scenes in this movie in the entire series...the dol goldur battle is bad ass 🤘🔥🤘 Battle of the Five Armies is by far the best CGI work🔥🔥🔥🤘
We need you to react to Twilight from (2008😭)
The most powerful being in the White Council is definitely Galadriel
