I think because we only see elphies version of the story from her POV people forget that she’s just glinda but green too. “She’s been nothing but nice to glinda” noo…she pretty much mutually hated glinda from the second she met her too. They were both hostile to eachother until this scene

Yes, the Broadway musical is based on the book "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire, and this movie is based on the stage musical, the book, the original "Wizard of Oz" movie, and the original Oz books. But I used the term "based" very, very, very loosely. Maguire's story is significantly darker, more violent, and more sexual. "Elphaba" comes from the initials of the author of the Oz books, L. Frank Baum. Part 2 comes out November 21st of this year.

I know people have a lot of excuses for galinda, but I don’t think she’s a good friend, lol. Even though she looks “sad“ in the first song, she still helping those people celebrate her friends death. Since she seems to have so much power, why doesn’t she tell the truth about Elphaba? I hear that alphabet affects her deaths, maybe Galinda knows about that, but instead of helping her fake her death she could help her it’s to clear her name. Maybe she’s clearing her name now, that’s why she was telling the story at the beginning of the movie… But at the same time she was still helping them burn effigies of her friend and celebrating her death… So the whole thing makes no sense.

none of the xmen will be in the MCU until you watch all the deadpool movies.

Remember that every X:Men movie is technically a stand alone. They are branches off the original movie, but not necessarily linear. Alternate realities to different ending timelines. In comics, timelines restart from different points in time all the time. So never get upset at a death or a character turned good/bad. They all have the ability to be good or bad depending on perspective.

I just went back and checked and just realized you guys haven't seen the Deadpool movies (you didn't react to Colossus).

This is the end of this trilogy but they did a soft reboot with the X-Men First Class crew. Don't remember the name of the first one in that incarnation. Imo, this wasn't a good depiction of the Phoenix saga. A better one was in the animated series in the 90s. Not X-Men 97, that one was a modern continuation of that series. Not saying it was bad but the treatment in the original series was a pretty good telling of the Phoenix saga.

This one is my favourite in the trilogy. I had no knowledge of comic book lore at the time I watched and I actually thought Jean was dead in X2, so to see her again was definitely a treat. Also, due to "repressed memories" This was the first X movie I have ever seen.

This one just hurt. I hated what they did with Jean because it destroyed so much of what they'd built for the franchise and characters. But Famke played her epically. And I loved the dynamic between Jean and Logan. Poor Scott. And Professor X! 😢

So Hank McCoy's mutant/superhero name is Beast and he's one of the original X-Men from the comics when they were introduced in 1963 (same year as the Avengers), and also Warren's mutant/superhero name is Angel who was also one of the original X-Men members. So if you think about it in retrospect, all of the OG X-Men are in this movie: Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman and Angel

I know you kinda made a tease about it but a detail I really liked during Dancing Through Life was that they made it very clear that the front flip Jonathan Bailey did was 100% him and not a stunt double! His performance is definitely one of my favorite parts of the movie among many others!

The thing that the movie doesn’t convey as well as the stage production is that glinda and elphaba don’t like each other mutually. It’s a difference in personality, peppy vs serious. musical!elphaba is much more hot headed and pessimistic, which shows that it’s not all one sided on glinda’s end. the line ‘it seems the artichoke is steamed’ plays out VERY differently in tone, since in the musical elphaba yells at her beforehand.

Saw it in the Theater when I was 4 or 5.

"Is this a book?" Yes it is! The musical is based on "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by Gregory Maguire. It kind of caught me off-guard how dark and even explicit it is (I had no idea who the author was or what his other books are like when I first discovered Wicked). The musical cut out a *lot* of the darker elements, and I'm glad the movie went into somewhat more detail about the anti-Animal stuff to bring it a bit closer to the book that way. I have high hopes for part 2!
