      Johnny was cool, i caught some of his shows. I liked his humor.
      But my faves would be the early '80s Dave Letterman and Tom Snyder when he was on CBS (and used to have Robert Blake on as a guest - before the Bonnie Lee Blakely murder).

      Johnny was the best late night host ever. The only one that came close to him was Steve Allen. Steve Allen had a whacky sense of humour, in some ways his improvisational skill was as good as Johnathan Winters and almost as good as Robin Williams.

    Loved how Robin looked at Johnathan every time he cracked a joke to see his reaction. And Jonathan would give him the approving smile. A strong connection between those too.

    Damn. That was priceless. The late and forever greats of Johnny Carson, Ed McMahon, Jonathan Winters and Robin Williams. I'd give anything to be able to turn on NBC M-F at 10:30 to see that again. That for me was always my favorite Tonight Show moments besides the monologue. At least there's TH-cam to hold on to these treasures. May all four of those guys rest in peace. I miss you all.

    Johnathan Winters was the only man who could cause Robin Williams to try to keep up. And he did but he had to work at it. Williams was usually the center of attraction everywhere he went except when Winters was around. Williams seemed to hang on his every word. Fun to watch.

      Bullshit. He was trying to draw attention to himself because no matter what the situation or with whom, he has to be to center of attention.
      Williams was nothing more than a hyperactive pissant who’s comedy was nothing more than attacks via straw man material with people whom he disagreed politically.

    Comedians usually get their laughs 4 ways, the actual jokes, the timing, the facial/body gestures and the delivery. Robin and Jonathon had all of these plus the ability to adlib and run with pretty much anything. Robin also had a 6th way which was unique to only a few of the greats and that the speed in which his mind worked leaving people in awe.

    • @johnmortimer3947
      @johnmortimer3947 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      You've got that backwards. Jonathan Winters was always hilarious, and a lot of people didn't appreciate Robin Williams's weird humor. As a stand-up comic, Williams was funniest in the '70s, back when he was always coked-up. He kinda lost his touch without the coke, which Winters subtly references in this interview.

    • @zacharyjarrells7084
      @zacharyjarrells7084 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +John Mortimer I think if you took a poll right now, 99% of people will tell you they know who Robin Williams is/was and about the same percentage loved him. I highly doubt too many people can say the same about Jonathan Winters. Not that he wasn't funny, he was hilarious. But, he was very popular from the late 50s to the 80s. In today's times, a lot of people don't appreciate his humor because they simply don't know him.

    Next to Williams, Winters looks like he's moving and talking in slow motion. But the similarity in comedic style is unmistakable!

    • @gocsa
      @gocsa 10 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Well now come on, Winters was 66 here. Look up stuff from when he was younger and you can see him being a lot quicker. Of course, the similarity is still just uncanny. Williams owes almost everything to Winters - he just took that style and turned it up to 11. Mind you, without ever really being derivative. Both of these gentlemen were legends.

    • @CarolanIvey
      @CarolanIvey 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I like the way he talks. Takes his time with what he wants to say at a nice pace. I feel like everywhere I go and every time I open my mouth to speak, I’m being rushed and I fumble over my words just so that I can get them all out before someone interrupts me thinking I’m done talking when I take more than half a seconds pause in between thoughts.
