This honestly happens easily because they don't search the patients things upon admission. I've worked in a few hospitals as a Tech in my hometown and while traveling during covid and patients bring drugs in and everything else. It's scary. A patient even had their drug dealer come to the hospital as a visitor and did a drug deal right inside their room. Once I found material used to shoot up and the drugs in a patients belongings and reported it. The nurses could never understand why the person would always lethargic and mumbling, etc. This man was shooting up in the hospital. Smdh They don't even do drug tests on people in the ER to rule things like that out prior to treatment which is crazy to me. Smdh Hospitals need to do better especially when it comes to drug abuse and mental health. When I started working in the hospital I was very shocked to discover that there are no protocols for searching patients things when they are admitted and no protocols for visitors. They literally just let whoever walk into the hospital to visit patients. I had one patient who was shot in the back multiple times and paralyzed from the waist down. He was in a gang shoot out. You would think that he would not be allowed visitors or that there would be some protocols in place for his and the hospitals safety. They could mess around and allow a rivalry gang member come visit him and not even know it. Smdh
