  • This is the second video of the old LeSabre. It was full of bad gas, the coolant system was locked up, and the brakes were completely seized. Now she is running and driving.

    As a teenager in the 70's I owned a '60 LeSabre 2 door. It was a very heavy car. Pushing it up on to a trailer without a cable wench was impossible. These guys must be really strong!

      Those cars are heavy and something. Is wrong --is gimmicky going on. They could never push it upgrade on the slightest driveway separator incline.

    • @Rumblegrumbler
      @Rumblegrumbler ปีที่แล้ว

      @@31847448 And yet, when I brought it home and got it into the garage, I cleaned it up, fixed the engine problems and put a new set of tires on it. On the highway, it flew like the wind and accelerated like crazy. It had the smallest V8 available for the Le Sabre, but with 11 to 1 compression it really cranked out the power. I regret selling it and wish I could get it back again.

    Beautiful car. I love those soft green colors. I was driven home from the hospital when I was born in '67 in the same model, but an Electra. I believe white/red. My father still talks about the car to this day. It was mint and he mechanically serviced it top to bottom.

    My Mom had one like this and it was a damn good car. It never failed to start and run except on one winter day when the battery had a weak cell and it went out. New battery and away we go again. She had a pretty heavy foot and would actually take off at the reed lights after she would look over and rev that big v-8 when there was a teenager in a Mustang or some other little sports car. She loved to race and got quite a few speeding tickets that she always got fixed. That Buick woul really haul ass.

      The last Buick my Mom had was a 92 Roadmaster, they would still get down the road pretty good. It had a modified Corvette engine in it. I thought it was a bit much for Moma but she didn't and she showed me she could still drive that big son-of-a-bitch. She liked burning the gas boy and the tires she would still giggle every time she would accidentally peel out taking off.

    I was impressed with you guys pushing that big car up the trailer ramps.
    Beautiful car. It's in good shape, but you just know that during that twenty-five years of storage something fell off a shelf and dented the top of the fender. Dang. I especially like the design of the 1960 Buick, it's toned down from the '59 but still holds a lot of interest to the eye. I'm surprised to see a Buick without power brakes. I thought they we standard on the full-size models. The young guy with the beard is learning how different cars used to be, switches, lights, tube radio, speed warning buzzer.. That's great. It's a pleasure to see young people taking an interest in vintage cars. I think that odd fuel filter set-up might have been for adverting vapor-lock, or it did something to break up the vapor-lock. You guys were very smart about doing a good prep on this before starting the engine. There's too many guys that do damage by being in a hurry to fire up an engine that sat for years.
    I don't know if you found the issue with that coil wire not sending power through, but it could have something to do with the pedal-to-floor start switch. There was some kind mechanism incorporated so that once the engine was running the starter switch was deactivated, so if the pedal was floored when driving the starter wouldn't activate. I'm sorry I can't offer you more on this but hopefully I'm sending you in the right direction. If you're going to keep this car, a factory service manual is invaluable for issues pertaining to uncommon things like this. That engine sounds strong when it was revved-up. I enjoyed the drive, and was glad to see that you guys brought it to that point. Nice quiet car!
    I didn't understand the part with the shop vac in the gas filler neck. I've never see that before. It looks like a good technique. Would you tell me what you were doing with that?

    • @MaxAC
      @MaxAC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ignition issue ended up being a bad ground with the glovebox light. So the vacuum creates a negative pressure inside the gas tank to stop the leak as sealer putty is applied. It helps with positive adhesion.

    • @discerningmind
      @discerningmind 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My dad had a '59 LeSabre 4-door hardtop. If it hadn't gotten hit once too often (other folks' fault), he'd have kept it forever. Fabulous car! If you ever deal with one again, you can prop the rear license plate holder down by propping the gas cap a certain way under one of the hinges. One hinge has a tab that will let you do that. The Buick folks thought of everything.

    What is $150, for a new fuel tank, $50 to clean and reseal the radiator or even put a new aluminum radiator and re-build the simple brakes on it and one burned signal bulb. How much simpler could it be? Dude, you are suppose to tighten the wheel bearings and seat them and then you back off to the nearest key slot. You left way too much slack in the bearings when you backed that far off.
