Could not agree more with this. Don't know why people are so obsessed with thin bezels, especially since it is a device you are wrapping your hand around. There are more important perks such as battery life, small form factor, etc....
Sometimes, I prioritize aesthetics over functionality. Phones with thin bezels feel like holding an elegant masterpiece. Even though I now have the S24, I still admire my S20; in my opinion, it has the most beautiful phone screen ever made with its perfect slight curve on all sides, except for the ugly back.
I'm quite happy that I sold my Pixel 7A and got this phone. For me it's the battery life, the small form factor, and the photo quality. The scenario for me is that I can take this phone on one-day hiking trips, take some photos, and then the navigation tools like Alltrails won't drain the battery by the end of the day. It can be a struggle with other single-day battery phones and the thoughts of getting lost in the woods can be quite stressful thus making the trip less enjoyable.
My Sony Xperia 5 ii is still cooking after 3 years got it on launch for 650 with the wf1000 xm3 and I can say the camera still holds up great to newer phones and the screen in stellar with 0 color shift , battery could use a replacement
I'm on the same boat... the only thing wrong with mine is the battery, I will probably replace it in the near future and hopefully will last a couple more years
same for me, pre-ordered it in Germany. but my display got two green lines, I'm not sure what I should do, whether to get a 5 V or fix the display and wait for 1 VI. probably still using it coz it's too hard to let it go lol
I use the 5 first gen, my favorite phone so far. The only problem I got is the overheating issue. I'm really planning to have Xperia 5 V but I'm scared of green lines issues on screen...
This is easily the best review I've seen of the Xperia 5 V, appreciate you taking the time to go into so much detail! Feels like Sony always makes one weird decision that holds the device back - and the screen here is a miss.
exactly... they have potential to make a really great phone, but they just remove some features. This is supposed to be a smaller flagship, but its got some compromises.
Thank you for this unvarnished and honest review. I appreciate it very much! I also wish Sony would reconsider their update strategy as soon as possible. Even though many argue that the phone still runs flawlessly even after EOS, I'm nevertheless a fan of new features and security fixes, but not for having to change the phone every 2-3 years.
I feel like 5V was suppose to be the real break-in phone for Sony enthusiasts, but it doesn't seem to deliver. I'm happy with my upgrade from 10 III to 1V, even though it was 5V I was waiting for, as soon as the leaks hit that it's not gonna feature a third camera it was a wrap.
So glad that I purchased 2x Xperia 5 IV (1 for backup). Coming from an Samsung A52s.. this more seems like a downgrade all the way. Especially the screen and the bezels. 5 IV has everything the V has including notification LED, zoom lens, much cheaper price. No more overheating issues since the last two patches. So see no reason to buy an Xperia 5 V. IV is the perfect phone with no missing features.
Great to read this! I am also thinking about changing my A52 and I was looking for the Xperia 10V because of the price but then I was more tempted for the 5V for the many excellent camera reviews I have seen and the phone size, however, now that I have seen a lot about the 5IV I think that would be a better option and your comments seems to confirm it.
@@HadrysL Indeed better go for Xperia 5 IV.. also the camera's on the 5 IV are excellent. Since it uses the same camera as the Xperia 1 IV.. but the V generation is off course better when it comes to camera. But 5 IV has also een notification LED and a zoomlens. I use it and i am very fond of it. The battery on the 5 IV is also very good. Maybe less then 5 V but still I can easily reach the next day on a single charge.
Hey there!! I m alsoo planning to upgrade my A52 nd I m thinking sony this time😁.. but I m concerned bout the 8 gen 1 chip nd the overheating... does it overheat while playing games?? What about normal usage?? Ur reply wil b very much appreciated.
@@HadrysLif you dont care so much about performance and camera the 10V is good. if you do care i would deffinitly go for a 5 or 1 series. maybe not the newest ones because of the price.
The screen quality is kinda important to me. More so than wireless charging for example. I wonder how the screen compares to the Xperia 5 iii that is use currently.
It could be fine, as head-on quality is still an OLED style punchy picture that’s very customisable, and it’s brighter than the 5 III. When the phone launches in your region, maybe try and find a phone shop that sells it and see for yourself.
Nice in depth review. I was concerned about thermal throttling and battery but they seem they're no issues with Xperia 5 V. For camera, I never cared much for long zoom telephoto camera since as you said there's a trade off in quality. The only issue with this Xperia 5 V is the storage capacity.
@@loman0071 no you can't install games or apps in the micro sd card. When download directly from Google store. 128 gb is really not enough. If you download 5 games then 128 gb is almost not enough. Especially games like Genshin Impact. If the playstore gave the option to do that.. then yes it would have been no problem. Micro SD storage is only useable extra storage for media files (video, photo music, documents)
For someone who has an Xperia 5 I so wish I can afford a new mobile. I would prefer the Xperia V for the specs but personally I prefer the way Xperia IV looks with the slimmer bezels. But if I was to be lucky enough to get either I would be happy as I am a huge Sony fan full stop. Happy days to all 👍🏾
Love that FULL FLAT DISPLAY!! It means cheaper and easier tempered glass application. Also, the newer display color seem more accurate from your video compared to the 5IV although that color shift 😅 . BTW did you test the maximum brightness? Sony stated 15% brighter than the 5IV. And as for macro, use the 2x zoom lens instead of the ultrawide lens.
Great and honest review and thank you for that! I got the phone 2 weeks ago and eventhough I am a huge Sony fan I feel a bit let down. I can already spot the navigation bar buttons burnt in the display and I keep my brightness on auto. I can also confirm the blueish tint when you view the phone from the sides (makes it feel so cheap). Only 128gb of internal storage paired with the restrictions of Android 13 making some apps useless when it comes to using Sd card storage and the disappointing screen quality don't justify this high price point. Cameras do produce nice pictures, but far from impressive in my view, even when you fiddle with the multiple settings the apps provide. What's positive is the sound quality, the impressive battery life and the snappy performance. However I don't consider this phone much of an upgrade compared to my Xz1, which is still going strong after 6 years of faithful service.
A telephoto camera will always beat a crop zoom in perspective: telephoto is more flat with less sherical distortion, making it great for portraits and product photography. No sensor technology can ever change that fact
That is just not how it works in reality. Let's make an optical comparison between telephoto on mk iv vs main but cropped on mk v. Telephoto on iv has a 5mm diagonal sensor with actual focal length of 7mm. At f 2.4 it has an iris size of 2.9mm Standard sensor on v has a diagonal of about 11m and a 6mm focal length. F stop is 1.9 which makes the iris about 3.1mm Meaning iris size is slightly bigger on the v main camera and with the similar physical focal length totaling to the roughly the same amount per sensor area. New sensor being 48mp vs 12 on the iv telephoto, also means that at 2x cropm you still have about the same amount of pixels to work with with about the same cropped diagonal on the sensor.... leading to better results on the cropped main camera on v due to better sensor and optics. And the perspective with cropping o the main camera stays the same as uncropped telephoto, because distance from the lens to the subject is what determines the perspective and not the lenses focal length
You have to wonder what possible reason does Sony have for not bringing the 256 version to Europe. Extended battery life over the quality of the screen I think most would prefer the extended battery
Watched this from an Xperia 5 III. Sad they killed the telephoto on the V. Would be curious to see a comparison in good and low light at 4.4x zoom between the III & V, but agree that no 2.5x zoom from the IV isn't a big loss. No good zoom plus worse screen makes me think this phone has too many compromises. I probably won't be looking for a new phone for another year or two so will wait and see what the 5 VI or VII brings. Also kudos on calling out Sony's bad update policy. Their battery saver feature is top notch. It's unfortunate the phone gets hampered for long term use through poor updates. This was an excellent, balanced, informative review. Amazing job!
It's good but not great. Some upgrades are welcome but some are questionable. I think the screen just needs a few calibration. I hope we get a better upgrade for future phones. Only thing I want of an upgrade from the 5V is the cameras so it checks the right boxes. Maybe Sony can upgrade telephoto in the 1 VI since people agree is it's weak points.
I'm weird, I actually like bezels. Currently I'm on an XZ Premium (partly broken digitizer) + xperia 10, and I actually like the big bezels of the XZP, lol.
I had hopes to change my defective Xperia XZ1 compact for 5 IV with a good discount when the 5 V comes out. Now I have to get the 5 V. Not sure if I want to thank you for that :S Great video btw :)
Sony just lost another customer; I was also looking to replace my Refurbished XZ1 Compact which its screen doesn't look as good as the original, weird image artifacts when using the front facing camera, so looking for a compact replacement and I decided to get the Asus Zenfone 10 even though I lose the SD slot, the headphone jack is a MUST. A shame Sony lost a niche market share by deciding to dump the 'Compact' line. The Xperia 5 V is not a compact phone.
@@MegaXtc11 To me the longer "remote control" shape doesn't matter that much but I don't like wide phones. I held a Samsung S23 which on paper is a wonderful compact phone but I can't use it with one hand comfortably so it's not my thing. Pixel 7a or Zenfone 10 or 5 V? Not sure, yet...
I've been waiting for the 5V exactly. Previously I've been using the Sony flagship models. With my current 1IV I decided that my next phone will be 5V. But now I'm not sure if it's worth it. It seems that the only vantage of 5V is it's size...
Hi there thanks for the review and Does this phone has dual audio option? Where we can connect two bluetooth headphones and listen from one phone! Like samsung, thanks
By any chance di you ask Sony about the greenline issues? I wanna buy the phone but want this to last for atleast 2yrs. My current Xperia 5 ii just got a green line at 1.5yrs old.
same question mate. my 5 II got two greenlines after 2.5 yrs. European one it was :( and I saw that 5 III and IV had the same issue. 1 line up doesn't have this issue. So, it is kinda scary if 5 V has the same issue too
sounds like a winning combo. unfortunately im just resetting my xperia 5ii after a repair and will still be rocking this one for some while. but you made my doubt about the camera go away. although the 5ii has the 70mm zoom lens which i find very usable for nice natural bokeh shots. but comparing it with the 5iv the 5v doesnt seem so bad . i was indeed shocked when they left the zoom lens out.
No. bokeh on Xperia 5 V is the best.. I have mine and i think the photo quality when you shoot using xperia phone is not about the camera itsel, it's about the person or the user. I have bokeh shots and when i compared it to iphone 14 pro max and to my samsuns s23, they are far behind...
It’s good in perfect situations but in real life, an artificially lit room, a restaurant, when someone isn’t posing or is too far away it struggled much more with edge detection than other phones.
All phones I had struggled with edge detection. Nothing replaces good short Tele. It would be better they did the Apple way: 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Maybe a bit smaller battery and include the full 1 V camera module.
Sony should have named this phone Xperia 7 because it's closer to the 10 series.. I would still know how the speakers are in comparison to the 5 IV, 1 V and 10 V
Having a differently behaving screen might mean that the 5V won't get the green line issue that the 5 II-III-IV had because of the faulty Samsung screens they were using
Four reasons I'm considering this: 1. The reportedly detailed and realistic image processing. 2. The expandable storage. Chucking a 512GB card on there and forgetting about storage has its appeal, though I'll import the 256GB version to avoid an issue with WhatsApp storage if I opt for it. 3. The battery life. I'm using a Zenfone 9, and it's pretty formidable batterywise. I'm guessing the Gen 2 will be a step-up from an already impressive 8+ Gen 1. 4. The headphone jack and accompanying audio settings. Deterrents: 1. Price. 2. Screen issues. 3. Possibility of fingerprint reader going kaput (a common problem with Xperia models, apparently). 4. Heard of apps crashing or unloading in the background.
That depends on a few factors and what's more important to you. Camera - Xperia. Storage and value - Zenfone. I would personally prefer to use the Xperia because I appreciate the Exmor T and Sony's photo processing. They're both very powerful phones.
Zenfone 10 is the only true compact phone in 2023 (alongside the Galaxy S23 but with a headphone jack) , size comparison against the 5V (146.5 cm tall in the Zenfone 10 vs 154 on the 5V). I was a long time Sony Xperia user but I grew dissapointed they ditched the 'Compact' series.
@@tech_edit Xperia 5 IV or V ? price difference up to ~120 euros I still don’t understand what’s wrong with IV’s autonomy? - is it much less than V? tele module really worth on IV?
I'm so sick of people pretending bezels are bad. Phones without bezels *suck.* Give me a place to HOLD the phone without touching the screen, please. This arbitrary need to get rid of bezels and make everything super thin is so annoying. TVs suffer from it now, too. "Wow, my TV's so thin I risk having it shatter under its own weight every time I pick it up, and the speakers suck complete ass now because there's no room to put any actual speakers inside this thing! I sure do love fashion over form!" ENOUGH OF THIS CRAP! TECH FORM FACTOR PEAKED IN THE 90S! FORM SHOULD FOLLOW FUNCTION, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Regardless, incredibly good review, thank you. I just had to rant against bezels for a second, sorry =') Still loved the video. Nice to have someone go so in depth about everything!
good job with the review... its the best along with GSM arena. Imagine having exmor-T with dual lens like 5 III had and digital zoom it has in 5 V. And the price - others offer more updates, lenses (+no macro mode here), RAM and storage...and maybe also a better screen (LTPO, but ok - sony made the screen eat less power). It should have been cheaper at least. Honestly I hope its going to be cheaper soon. There are compromises and even Apple products seem cheaper.
for the same price, which would you choose between the Sony xperia 5 V and the zenfone 10, knowing that I am looking to have the best camera as well as the best battery life?
Hi thank you for the information 😊 i have the 5ii and want to upgrade. I think i have to see the phone bezels in person because i don't care about it at the moment. I just hope Sony increase the OS support as some companies have recently. Im tied into the Sony ecosystem so looke this might be my next phone either way lol
Good choice to be honest. I think for me, the battery and main camera make it so much better practically speaking than older 5-series devices, and the heat management too, that it's still a solid upgrade. It just isn't quite the mini flagship in all areas the 5-series once tried to be. Enjoy your upgrade :) - Basil
@@tech_edit thank you for replying 🤔 apart from max brightness and variable Hz are there other areas the S23 Ultra screen beats the 1V screen? Ive seen both phones before but didn't spend enough time using them.
Are the cameras good enough on Xperia 5 V, or I definitely choose the Xperia 1 V? I know the main difference is the lack of telephoto on 5 V, but is it well resolved that on it?
Hi, is it Dual SIM phone? The tray in 2:31 seemed like to fit only one SIM... I have Xperia 5 I and really consider buing this one... Thanks for your answer and for great review!
@@tech_edit It can be a number of factors. Most reviews are payed, where things like that just not get covered on purpose or reviewer just doesn't have a basic knowledge. Secondly, it also could be just a faulty device, like when some reviewers complain on xperia 1 V bad soapy telephoto lens when zoomed in.
I end up putting phone in case anyway so the tiny differences in bezels width do not worry me. I won't notice it anyway. I will however notice not having wireless charging AND headphones jack AND memory card slot. You either get wireless charging in flagships, or 3.5mm jack and memory card in more budget friendly phones. And with how I use my phone I need all these features 😅 Wireless charging saved me from buying new phone when after 4 years USB-C socket in my phone stopped connecting properly most of the time, I still got 1 year of use by charging wirelessly. I use Bluetooth headphones a lot, but there is nothing worse if they're out of power. Now imagine not having option to switch to traditional headphones when you need 😭And extra memory - I don't think I need to explain that one 🙄 So - although I was definitely not planning on buying Sony originally - now I don't really see myself choosing different phone when I switch to new one. Just not decided yet between 5 and 1 versions...🤔
Hi, cal you help me plz ? I can't find the shortcut icon for disabling/enabling mobile data... You know, the buttons when you swipe down. I've never had a Sony smartphone. Don't they exist on Sony phones ?
Arent the bezzles just as thick as on the 5 iv? but they look thicker because the 5 v doesnt have the rounded edges that the 5 iv has. i think size wise the phones are exactly the same , same like the screen . so that would mean the bezzles arent bigger they just look bigger
on my experience with xperias, review can drop all the useless information about perfomance, camera, design etc. just put the phone in the pocket, go outside, and drop the phone while taking out from the pocket. this will be the most valuable review 😢 but I guess screen crash on 5 V is not so scary because of cheaper screen 🙃
Great review very informative!!! Might sound silly amongst other things I'm really disappointed in tthe removal of the notification light it's a feature that's important to me and with the bezels it just comes across as Sony being lazy, have you any idea why they removed it?
I don’t, though guess Sony is looking at trends, possibly doing its own customer research and is reducing component costs where possible. That’s my best guess.
that doesnt matter if the screen shifting to green color when in sideways. i wont use my phone sideways either.. in fact i am using my phone normally though and not sideways 😂😂
Good comparison of telephoto capabilities. Shooting holiday scenery with the telephoto lens of my Xperia 5ii is a major part of my use, so this won’t be for me. And also, the abysmal software support makes me shy back.
Definitely enjoyed the reviews side by side with the IV and V. I am still sporting a Sony Xperia 1ii (a huge jump from my Xperia XZ1!) Sony cranks out phones yearly to best the best but like you said it is for niche folks. I love the camera first and foremost and will continue to hold out until another Sony sparks what it is I am looking for. I definitely agree with what you said about Sony and their battery care. They've had the stamina mode function since Z series if not even earlier. Sadly Sony's do over heat, but I'm glad the 5 doesn't burn your hand. 😅 even in the hot sun my phone starts to warm up. Honest and great review! I, too watched you from the btekt days!
Great review as always! I recommend using Video Pro to shoot videos since it produces better results than Photo Pro. If you shoot in low light, you can max out the shutter (1/30 or 1/24) and disable S-Cinetone to get much cleaner footage. Will you be doing another Q&A video with the Xperia 5 V? I'm curious how the footage will look compared to the 5 IV with the new wide dynamic range + stabilisation mode.
Hey! I was thinking the same, Imagine dealing with warranty issues when you have to ship internationally. Alot of risk sending a 1000+ electrical item overseas lol
Thicker side bezels, no notifications light, worse screen compared to the 5 iv and no adaptive refresh rate. I'll wait for the 5 VI and hopefully they fix these issues otherwise I'll get the s23
depends if you want smaller phone, maybe better battery life, go for 5 V... if you have the budget and dont care too much about the size and batery life (that is still ok), go for 1V
I have the feeling that is not a mk 5... it doesn't feel premium as the previous versions. Worse screen, worse bezels, no real zoom camera... and man, its 999€! I was thinking to jump from my pixel 4a to sony this year but with at that price I expected more. I think i gonna go for pixel 8, zenfone 10 or nothing 2 (or xperia 5 mk4 if i coudl get it for 599€)

@@elip4854 hmmm.. I haven't spent much time with the 1V, only few minutes in a phone store. Both phones share lots of features and the 1V is the premium version...What feature makes you want to switch? I have the 5ii so I was thinking those with older models might want the upgrade and not someone with the 1V. These are the reasons I may go for the 5V - 5V battery lasts longer - Screen is sharp enough and more energy efficient but not as good as 1V. Personally don't care about the color shift at odd angles - 5V has bigger bezels compared to predecessors and 1v. I want to see it in person, but it doesn't look as bad as I think - I'm not a camera person so don't care too much about the removals or new additions - Finally I like the Xperia android skin even though OS updates are only for two versions. As it comes for great audio and a good camera i'd give it a try, but come on a phone at that price range with only 128 memory storage that is a big disappointment. I think i'll spent a few Euro's more and buy my self the iPhone 14 Pro Deep Purple with 1tb 😁
It only got warm, not hot, and that was with the temperature in Norwich, where I filmed the review being 31º C. The screen is either locked to 60Hz or 120Hz.

Various reviews have stated that the bokeh mode/computational photography has been improved even over the 1v, and that said improvements will come to the 1v. Is this not true?
from the samples i saw... its pretty good, but it will never be perfect as an natural optical bokeh. I can tell you this as a photographer and a graphics designer. There will always be some imperfections / problems with precision. On small phone display you will not notice if you dont zoom a lot. On bigger screens it will be worse in some cases.
I would stay with 5iv a bit cheaper has three cameras has a better screen i think its a draw back that Sony made with 5v for the alternative sake of three cams on 5iv its a win! I wish Sony would go back to compact phones they once had its kind of annoying with that 21:9 format kind regards.
2 years OS update is a dealbreaker for this amazing phone. A lot of people will not buy xperia phones for 2 years os updates. Sadly, Sony will soon die in the phone industry
Bro, I'm not watching anything from the side like a Peeping Tom. In my view this is a bonus. Like a built in privacy screen. 100% of people watch content head on. Who is this going to affect besides the guy sitting next to you on the train?😂
😂😂 that's a forgiving attitude. Even when looking at a web page off angle, reading a recipe when the phone is on a counter etc it's noticeable. I get what you're saying but when you're paying top dollar, it's not great even if it isn't a deal breaker.
This move away from SD card storage is very disappointing. I understand _why,_ but if this is to be the standard, then by all means please give us 1TB primary storage. 🙇🏼♂️ I suppose an argument can be made that cloud storage should suffice. But IMO that prevents one from a sense of true ownership of the storage content.
I have been waiting for the 5V for a while a bought it immediately, but i very much regret the purchase. I don't mind too much about the bazels and borders, although I'd prefrer a bit smaller phone. But the display is a deal breaker. It's so bad I can't stop thinking how much I hate it every time I use it. Effectively it's the same display used on the much cheaper Xperia 10 V, just a better bin. At this price it's just a fraud. Totally disappointed.
agree re bezels, they look fine to me, but am wondering if the screen is really that bad or just a little compromise to get great battery performance? i want to order it and coming from a 10 ii my hope is that it'll still feel like an excellent display. thoughts?
@@waddaplayer4030 My wife has the 10 III, so my thoughts are: - pixel density: no difference, they both look sharp - colors: the 5 V definitely has more natural and beautiful colours, on the 10 III they look a bit fake, reduced colour space, etc. - viewing angles: the 10 wins hands down, it has relatively narrow viewing angles but wider, less intense and with a more consistent colour (blue) shift; definitely less annoying, while on the 5 you can clearly see this pink-white-blue repeating pattern that forces me to stand still as much as possible and move the phone back a bit. It's hard to see a single consistent white page. Effectively it's the same display of the sub 300 € Xperia 10 V, but mounted on a phone that is just a bit cheaper of the much better xperia 1 V (gorgeous display + more storage, ram, camera). Yes, it looks like the battery can last up to 30% longer on the 5, but someone at Sony must have been drunk when they set the price for this xperia 5 V
The pixel 7 series also overheats constantly, throttles, shuts off cell radios (including bluetooth and gps so if ur lost u stay lost). The pixel 7 series also has worse performance from its slower and less eficient SOC, less options in the camera, no head phone jack, no SD slot either. So before you compare the two, remember that the pixel is unusable. I have a pixel 7 right now. As i text this message on it it feels warm, reminding me that it is a piece of garbage.
@@sunnyveerpratapsingh1102 you more than likely have not been paying attention to the news, and don't use Google maps and TH-cam while charging it in a car either. The pixel 7 line is known for not having proper thermal management, a weak modem, and poor performance. This is why everyone is waiting on them to switch from the garbage Samsung foundry. The poor performance and heat management has been well documented by people much smarter than yourself so I'm guessing that you think that they too all have faulty devices. I've been using smartphones since Windows Mobile 2003. I know I have more experience than most when using these things. This is the first time that I've had a phone that does this and no, it is not faulty. There are far too many people with the same problems. I know you're trying to defend your purchase but that's not flying here.
Only avid fan will purchase this phone over other smart phones that offer better price:specs. Even I don’t like nothing phone 2 gimmick, it’s still a better choice than this.
I own an Xperia 5 III, 5 IV, 1 IV & Pro-i. I love the Xperia lineup with my whole heart but for the last four years my biggest gripe has been the bezels on the top and bottom (and to some degree, the sides). I understand that they make room for the speakers & camera. I personally wouldn't mind if there was a cutout. It just sucks that my all time favorite smartphone lineup in the entire world still looks stuck in 2019. I so badly wanted this year to be different. Not only are they not any smaller..they are somehow bigger. RIP. I personally don't much care that the rear camera has been upgraded. It doesn't do me any good anyway when you have to have a PhD in all of SONY's pro apps on top of being a professional photographer/videographer just to make any photo/video comparable to an out of the box, no education needed point & shoot from the likes of Apple or Samsung (amongst others). Complaints aside, I will forever be a sucker for the 21:9 aspect ratio & the tall, narrow design that fits my hand so well. Thank you for making this video! It was excellent.
I feel ripped off by Sony after the Experia 5ii, after only 1 year the screen developed the infamous verticle purple and green lines going up it. The only fix is a change to a different screen panel that cost nearly half the price of the phone. It has also been well reported that the 5iii has very strong issues with battery over heating. I live these phones but I don't trust Sony anymore, going to a different more consistent brand.
the bezel really helps with palm touch on edges, imo the whole industry really screw up big time chasing the thin bezel form

My 1IV is great for everything accept making calls - no mic volume at all
exactly... they have potential to make a really great phone, but they just remove some features. This is supposed to be a smaller flagship, but its got some compromises.
the screen is what gives it great battery life too, its not like anyone will really notice any difference
That’s some upgrade - thanks for the comment , and hope you continue to enjoy the 1 V :)
All the points esp. the photo comparison makes this the best review of the Xperia 5 V I've seen.
Thanks. Really kind of you to say!

You deserve more views. You spot things that are missed by other people. Also I used to watch you from the Btekt days.
Micro SD? Been in every other phone 😉
Happy days to all 👍🏾
Don't get the IV. It's a lemon. Overheats, hangs and display craps out.
There is no 2x zoom lens, that's the point.
@@kosztaz87 use the main lens and zoom up to 2 times.
@@bloodytoad2010 Oh that's what you meant. Yes I wonder if macro shots would come out better that way.
@@kosztaz87 definitely better than using the 16mm lens plus it zooms the subject bigger.
At f 2.4 it has an iris size of 2.9mm
Standard sensor on v has a diagonal of about 11m and a 6mm focal length. F stop is 1.9 which makes the iris about 3.1mm
Meaning iris size is slightly bigger on the v main camera and with the similar physical focal length totaling to the roughly the same amount per sensor area.
I would miss the LED light 😢
You have to wonder what possible reason does Sony have for not bringing the 256 version to Europe.
Extended battery life over the quality of the screen I think most would prefer the extended battery
That would likely be for the Chinese market. The 1v 512gb is also for the Chinese market I guess
Thanks Gregory, kind words much appreciated.
yes! exmor-T with telephoto lens would be a killer combo.
Not sure if I want to thank you for that :S
Great video btw :)
Just replaced my XZ1 with the 5 V. Both in Blue :)
I agree with your review, and sony really should step up their game and extend software support for their phones
A great video but I note your reservations on the screen quality
Lack of Telephoto is a deal breaker for me. 60mm on the IV is the minimum for good portraits. 80mm is best imo.
That model in the bokeh shot 9:25😍
By any chance di you ask Sony about the greenline issues? I wanna buy the phone but want this to last for atleast 2yrs. My current Xperia 5 ii just got a green line at 1.5yrs old.
same question mate. my 5 II got two greenlines after 2.5 yrs. European one it was :( and I saw that 5 III and IV had the same issue. 1 line up doesn't have this issue. So, it is kinda scary if 5 V has the same issue too
That scares me too. So I want to know...
sounds like a winning combo. unfortunately im just resetting my xperia 5ii after a repair and will still be rocking this one for some while. but you made my doubt about the camera go away. although the 5ii has the 70mm zoom lens which i find very usable for nice natural bokeh shots. but comparing it with the 5iv the 5v doesnt seem so bad . i was indeed shocked when they left the zoom lens out.
Thanks for the unbiased review
No. bokeh on Xperia 5 V is the best..
WHY HATE THE PHONE YOU LOVE...SONY IS AT LEAST ALWAYS MAKING THE BEST...THIS IS PERSONAL FOR ME 🥰
We expect quality from sony
@@rocky.c.sit is I'd take some of the low points for the better points
Sony should have named this phone Xperia 7 because it's closer to the 10 series.. I would still know how the speakers are in comparison to the 5 IV, 1 V and 10 V
Having a differently behaving screen might mean that the 5V won't get the green line issue that the 5 II-III-IV had because of the faulty Samsung screens they were using
Four reasons I'm considering this:
Deterrents:
1. Price.
2. Screen issues.
3. Possibility of fingerprint reader going kaput (a common problem with Xperia models, apparently).
4. Heard of apps crashing or unloading in the background.
Which would win, a zenfone 10 or this xperia as a compact beast?

I sure do love fashion over form!"

Regardless, incredibly good review, thank you. I just had to rant against bezels for a second, sorry =')
Still loved the video. Nice to have someone go so in depth about everything!
I'll wait for next year's version
good job with the review... its the best along with GSM arena.
5V or 1IV ?
which would be the better choice in terms of photo quality, especially low light? They are the same price on amazon right now
is this phone has a overheat problem when using a camera for few minutes ?
Nice bit of Norwich Cathedral!
Good spot!
for the same price, which would you choose between the Sony xperia 5 V and the zenfone 10, knowing that I am looking to have the best camera as well as the best battery life?
The unit I have is single SIM, though does support an eSIM too, so is dualSIM if including the eSIM.

Probably your screen is not the best. I have the Xperia 10v and have no blueish whites when off angle. Absolutely perfect screen.
So what was the Sony's response on your question about the screen? What did they say?
I'm still waiting, and am surprised more reviews didn't pick up on it. Maybe they improved it in later products, but I can't say for sure. Basil
@@tech_edit It can be a number of factors. Most reviews are payed, where things like that just not get covered on purpose or reviewer just doesn't have a basic knowledge. Secondly, it also could be just a faulty device, like when some reviewers complain on xperia 1 V bad soapy telephoto lens when zoomed in.
at night i would use the 1080p 30fps videofor best results (at least i do that with my 5ii)
And with how I use my phone I need all these features 😅
Wireless charging saved me from buying new phone when after 4 years USB-C socket in my phone stopped connecting properly most of the time, I still got 1 year of use by charging wirelessly. I use Bluetooth headphones a lot, but there is nothing worse if they're out of power. Now imagine not having option to switch to traditional headphones when you need 😭And extra memory - I don't think I need to explain that one 🙄
So - although I was definitely not planning on buying Sony originally - now I don't really see myself choosing different phone when I switch to new one. Just not decided yet between 5 and 1 versions...🤔
Between this and S23 which would u get?
Im on a budget 😅
Hi, cal you help me plz ?
I can't find the shortcut icon for disabling/enabling mobile data... You know, the buttons when you swipe down. I've never had a Sony smartphone. Don't they exist on Sony phones ?
Arent the bezzles just as thick as on the 5 iv? but they look thicker because the 5 v doesnt have the rounded edges that the 5 iv has. i think size wise the phones are exactly the same , same like the screen . so that would mean the bezzles arent bigger they just look bigger
when checking sizes on phone arena is basically not even 0,5% larger the bezzles, but yea you can say that are larger than i guess XD
on my experience with xperias, review can drop all the useless information about perfomance, camera, design etc. just put the phone in the pocket, go outside, and drop the phone while taking out from the pocket. this will be the most valuable review 😢
but I guess screen crash on 5 V is not so scary because of cheaper screen 🙃
Great review very informative!!! Might sound silly amongst other things I'm really disappointed in tthe removal of the notification light it's a feature that's important to me and with the bezels it just comes across as Sony being lazy, have you any idea why they removed it?
I don’t, though guess Sony is looking at trends, possibly doing its own customer research and is reducing component costs where possible. That’s my best guess.

I have the 5ii so I was thinking those with older models might want the upgrade and not someone with the 1V. These are the reasons I may go for the 5V

It is better than it was, but I still found it to be inconsistent and weaker than much competition in challenging lighting.
from the samples i saw... its pretty good, but it will never be perfect as an natural optical bokeh. I can tell you this as a photographer and a graphics designer. There will always be some imperfections / problems with precision. On small phone display you will not notice if you dont zoom a lot. On bigger screens it will be worse in some cases.

I suppose an argument can be made that cloud storage should suffice. But IMO that prevents one from a sense of true ownership of the storage content.
I think an strategy would be to use software to sync your phone's contents back to your main PC, that way you don't have to pay for cloud storage.

Why is the bokeh shot was trash?. Not the same as the other reviews I've watched.
Does somebody know the SAR-Value? My 5 II has a great one, 0.29.
You have a defective piece bro, mine pixel 7 faces none of the issues that you mention 😊
@@sunnyveerpratapsingh1102 so your pixel 7 has headphones jack and sd slot??
@@30035 i dont need either of those, wireless and memory management does the work
Only avid fan will purchase this phone over other smart phones that offer better price:specs.
