Hi Paul great video. I've just made the move from iphone to my first ever Sony and got the Xperia 5 V. Im loving the phone and no regrets thankfully. One of the reasons that made me choose Sony over the likes of Samsung was my wish to get into photography and learn how to take beautiful shots. I've started mt journey and would appreciate any video tutorials on how to get the best out of the Sony's manual camera mode on the Xperia 5 V. Thanks
Hi Hassan, the Xperia 5V is a great phone for photographers and videographers. The key advantage that Xperia offers is that phones operate on a similar interface and sensor size as the ZV-1, 1F and ZV1-m2 (sensor on 5V is a bit smaller) and provides the same bells and whistles as Sony with the editing suite of Google. Give me some time and I will produce some tutorials
Thanks for the compliment and it is in the pipeline. Probably in the coming 4 weeks. I'll probably create 2 tutorials. Stay tuned. Keep your eye on the community tab on the channel
I am sorry I won't as I found the phone very good for photography, decent for video, but unfortunately the entire android OS on this phone is full of glitches amongst other issues. So unfortunately I had to return it
Great video Paul! I have been looking for a new phone to replace my pixel 6. You might beable to see from my channel I need a phone with good video quality and able to focus on close up products quickly. Currently stuck between xperia 5v and holding out till feb to see some new phones revealed. we will see but this video looks amazing quality especially on the talking head portions. Do you think it would be fit for my purposes also? Cheers mate
Thank you! The 5v retails in Europe for 999 euro (so not budget) in the US for 899. Coming from the pixel 6a I love this phone and for photography it provides the exact same editing suite on android as Pixel 8pro that is an unexpected benefit. In-depth review coming up in a couple of weeks.
Sony Smartphone Line Up Sony Xperia 5V: geni.us/o9Inn. (Prosumer Use) Sony Xperia 10V: geni.us/OX3K (Professional Use) Sony Xperia 1V: geni.us/ciO76F Professionall Use) Sony ZV-1m2: geni.us/78vOA (from normal to pro)
Combination of size and more importantly appliance. It is ideal for me to shoot b-roll and TH-cam talking heads on the go. Additionally it has a similar interface as Sony cameras. I dont need all the 1V bells and whistles as I also own a Sony A7iii. I purchased the Xperia 10v initially but that was really not what I was lookong for
Better? Only if you want the slightly bigger screen and the tele lenses (which are really not that good). Otherwise you get a better battery life and a better compact size in the 5V. With minimal or no disadvantages really.
Going to be honest with you. This is my first Xperia phone. I am happy with it as it is my pocket TH-cam camera. So it serves the purpose that I bought it for
It takes the worst selfies on the planet!!! I've always had Xperia phones, my last one being 5ii, which is awesome when it comes to selfies. I really don't understand what is wrong with this phone though. I look amazing on the screen before I take the photo and when I take it and have a look at it, I look like an alien!!! I look worse than the way I look in reality!!! Even with the soft face setting on!!! It accentuates puffy eyes, which are not that puffy to begin with, every little dyschromia gets accentuated as well!!! Where's the soft face that 5ii had!?!?!? If my Xperia 5ii didn't have a green line on the screen I would go back to it. I've tried taking selfies in all settings and environments with different lighting and they all suck!!! I don't even like the back camera either. Landscapes have a distorted view and the colours look weird compared to 5ii. I want to bin it so badly!!!!
I do agree with you after owning and using the phone for some time now that the selfie camera is not the best. I now have a few pros and cons listed and will be making an episode on it later January. Do you mind if I feature your comment (your name I'll blank out. Obviously) 🎄
I felt so frustrated that I decided to leave a comment. I was searching for ways to make the selfies look better thinking it was something in the settings I've probably missed. But all these videos kept popping up in the search about how great the phone and its camera are!!! 😅 I think that's when I had to unleash all my frustration and it just happened to be on your video!!! Sorry! 😊 I never expected anyone to read it or pay attention to it. Of course you can use it anonymously, although I am exaggerating when I say "on the planet" !!!😅 Obviously I haven't used all mobile phones on the planet!!!
You can easily take selfies with the main 24mm lens and bokeh mode activated. You’ll get the best selfies coming from a phone. You can’t see yourself while taking the picture but having the real shutter button and the 24mm focal length plus the great AF mean that you will be in focus 100%! Give it a try! Another thing to keep in mind is that we got used to heavy processed pictures which look pleasant only on the little screens :)
@@jedunboxing4127 no for video it was great, but the Google UI was very glitchy. I use it for air travel as the audio jack and audio in general are great
@@jedunboxing4127 the Android on my phone wasn't working properly. Loads glitches and mini freezes even after updating the settings and firmware. Shame as the video and photo are awesome

Yes please do the full depth review for the camera and video. Really appreciate it thanks...
That is going to take a few weeks or a month. Just to manage your expectations
@@PaulTakesPhotos thanks really appreciate it!!!
Great video thanks, I'd love some tutorials and think you'd do a great job of them, you come across well. Thanks!

Big question
Just got mine but the ratio choice in camera pro gives me 12mp or 9mp option
Is there a way to use the imput from the 48mp sensor?
I had the similar issue, but for video, at least in my experience, the pro mode has a 12mp output. Surprised and disappeared me too
Hi, thanks for the video. Are you still thinking about doing a tutorial about the photography of this phone?
I am sorry I won't as I found the phone very good for photography, decent for video, but unfortunately the entire android OS on this phone is full of glitches amongst other issues. So unfortunately I had to return it
@@PaulTakesPhotos no problem. Thanks anyway and for the explanation. Your other videos are great btw. :)
