It's all about getting a good deal. I recently traded my Hypermotard in, dealer gave me a great price for the Hyper and a discount on the price of the new bike. Love that stock exhaust! Glad to see you running it in smoothly :D

How ironic! I did exactly the same thing this week... Traded my 2015 model for a 2017 model for exactly the same reasons you stated. Feels slower but needs to still run in but feels a lot more solid under braking and handling around corners. Going back to 16/45 on the gearing as soon as possible - altitude here where I live has a big impact on performance.

I'm surprised you didn't wait for the next generation XR based upon the brand new RR (probably due in a year), though I understand your financial calculation based upon the large upcoming service cost. BMW claimed an additional 5 HP in the 2017 XR version, though this may merely be a more accurate measurement without actually changing anything. The new S1000 engine shift-cam would seem to provide the mid-range torque that they gave the XR through static tuning, but without sacrificing the top end power. I doubt they will give the XR the full 207 HP, but I do expect a substantial boost. There's also all of the other new RR features like TFT console, more/easier programmable modes (like the Multistrada), lighter weight, better suspension, better frame, Bluetooth integration, TPMS, etc.
The new XR is going to be sick! I forecast new looks, new generation dynamic ESA, LED headlights, TFT display, and of course shiftcam... so maybe an underrated 170 HP? 😉

Same bike, just different ECU. 2016s can be tuned with a handheld at home; on the newer ones you have to mail in your ECU and ignition to get the flash.
Sorry I missed your comment. It's a GoPro Hero5 with an external mic, the trick is to find the right mic pisitioning inside the helmet to reduce wind noise.
@@CubanRider Wouldn't Q4's kind of negate the point of owning a sport tourer? Especially when there's tires like the Pilot Road 5's on the market. I can definitely see them being beneficial if you only try to push it to the limits, but at that point it seems like you should just get an RR.
@@marinesniper195 absolutely not. We get this bike because it's comfortable, can carry a passenger semi-comfortably, and can haul ass and hang with sportbikes around a track (hence the Q3/Q4 and similar). 99% of my riding is on the streets, so getting a sportbike is what doesn't make sense.
Interesting to hear about gearing 17 / 43. If I do that on stock bike, should I expect better economy without big loss in acceleration? I really enjoy how it rides so don't want to change too much.
Frank, you don't lose much acceleration but it's a bit more cumbersome to get out in first gear, once it gets going it's good. The reduced RPM on the highway is welcomed, but to tell you the truth I just wanted to tame those wheelies that becoming more a problem as I put on headers and tuned it. If you don't do a lot of highway leave it stock, but if you spend a lot of time around 70-80 mph, then it's worth a look.
@@CubanRider Thanks mate. 90% of my daily commute is sitting on the hwy. When in traffic I am filtering in 2nd/3rd gear. What's your opinion on the 520 CONVERSION KIT - SUPERLITE RSX STEEL SPROCKET SET? I cant find a decent kit in Australia so will need to buy from overseas.

Nathan that's an amazing deal, I'd be all over it. The engine, electronics and build quality of this bike are top notch. I may be a bit biased since I've already voted with my wallet, twice, but I've also ridden a few of the newest premium bikes and the S1000XR runs with the best of them.
HVMP bar end weights, MRA Vario screen, crash bars, headers and tune (your choice). I will be uploading a video soon of doing all these modifications to the new S1000XR.

You press and hold the ABS button until the TC light comes on, you may have to play with it to alternate between ABS/TC until you get it. The light on means it's disabled, you can now do burnouts to your heart's content.

I hated being at altitude and that was only 4000 ft, the bike had a hard time power wheelying.

The Super Duke GT is another beast, can't go wrong with any of these bikes truly.

So what differences did you notice when you got on the new one vs. your other bike with 35,000 miles? Did new one seem tighter?
Not really, my original XR is still felt super solid. This one just felt slower and quieter, but that'll change soon!

@@frankloschiavo I recommend Superlite and 520 conversion, that's what I had on my last bike for the past 15000 miles and worked amazing.

Best screen ever created for these bikes. The extended reduces turbulence a great deal, highly recommended for under 6 feet in height.

Easier to tune. The newer ones require to send the ECU in, the 2016 can be flashed using a handheld tuner.

Your flashing light is coming on too early, it'll drive you insane!
This is due to the break-in settings. It will be gone after they remove the RPM limit at the first service
I know, very annoying. I'll get rid of it soon enough and set it at 11000 rpm.
