    I can see your passion & admiration on the bike and I agree. I have a 19 GSA and realized im not intending to take it off road. I was sold seeing it for the first time and test driving it. I saw the XR in person same dealership after 8 months of ownership and i'm infatuated once again since it is sports directed vs adventure. Don't want both so I guess it's time for a trade. Phenomenal products BMW. Thanks for the ride and opionion.

    Great review! After 11 years of owning and riding my 2007 BMW R1200GS 36,000 miles (had that bike in 32 different states), did a ton of off road all through the Rockies, Moab, Yellowstone, Glacier, North Rim Grand Canyon, etc. I traded the aging girl in for a 2016 White S1000XR fully loaded with 1,500 miles on it and got a stellar deal to boot. I made the move as I relocated to South Florida in 2015 and riding was just boring here on a GS for me. I loved the GS, it was a part of my life and would own one again. However, the S1000XR is just absolutely ridiculous. Holy cow!! I can totally see the evolution with this machine and it won't be too long before the bike can guide itself much like the Tesla Model S. I have owned Honda, Kawasaki,Harley,Yamaha,KTM, Triumph,Ducati and this is my 4th BMW. This bike is far and away the absolute best machine I have ever ridden and owned. Period. It has renewed my passion for riding 10 fold here in the flat lands of Paradise - South Florida. Rolling on the throttle on this gentle BEAST is something that will just never get old.

    You are preaching to the choir. I've been riding an XR since 2016. I switched out those little plastic pins on the front of the belly skin for a couple nut plates and some T25 screws (same bits fit on the K1300S, so get 'em at your BMW dealer. Helps with oil changes. Also, I recommend a set of Clearwater Ericas and a Billie Jr. brake light (might'a been one of your videos that pushed me over the edge on the lights). Maybe consider AltRider for the radiator and oil cooler guards - they stop rocks and birds, but minimal pressure drop. What a great bike!

    Always enjoy your videos. Thought I wanted the new Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE. Test rode one in Roseville last week (where I bought my Demo 2018 XR in 2019). The Triumph is a giant DP. Would be no fun, after 100 miles on the freeway. Riding home on the BMW, my first thought was, "Have I lost my mind?" The XR is THE bike I want to ride across the USA on soon. My wife, who really rides, says, "I love the BMW. Please never sell it." With 3900 miles on my two year old purchase, she's a keeper.

    Hi Mate, just picked up My 2020 S1000XR Tour 2 Weeks ago, You're right,it's the Best Bike I ever rode and I'm riding since 50 Years on many differend Bikes starting in 1970 on a Puch250, also enjoyed Your Documentary from the Alps, love the Stelvio, rode it twice, the last Time at 2015 on a hired Ducati Diavel, but plan to do it one more Time next Year, the Stelvio should be on every Riders Bucketlist, will hire a S1000XR in Munich, go trough Austria down the Bloeckenpass to Northern Italy, do the Dolomites and back over the Stelvio and Bernina to Switzerland, on to Bavaria, I live in Sydney Australia where we can enjoy Our Bikes all Year around, thanks again for all Your great Documentries

    Thanks for posting. I saw your first XR videos before I bought mine about a year ago. I totally agree with your assessment of the XR. I've kept mine pretty stock except for the radiator and oil cooler guards, fenda-extenda, and the Clearwater Ericas and Billie Jr. brake light. Oh yeah. I installed a couple BMW nut clips on the front tabs of the belly pan, and use T-25 Torx screws instead of those funky plastic rivets. Metzeler M7RRs seem to last longer on the XR than they did on my K1300S. Have fun in Europe!

    Same bike, same feeling, love it!! I've done some offroad and it really get you tired, at the moment you need to go low speed because of a sharp curve, maybe uphill and you have to use the clutch all the time because the torque it's at high RPMs, anyway bike can handle it, cheers!

    i think Im the only one that actually doesn't like mine as much as I thought I would. Im an older rider tho so it may be age. That said your review is right on. Really curious on your mpg. Realistic riding ( touring ) 45-65 mph range.

      mine is terrible because i ride in LA traffic start/stop/lights all the time. i get 32. When i tour i think its closer to 40 but i generally ride very hard off of stops and hang at lower gears for too long...

    • @davidspicer332
      @davidspicer332 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gentlemen.
      I have just purchased a 2016 Beemer s1000XR about a week and a half ago. (It was a project bike with 340 miles on ti) fuel milage is not bad for the way I ride. I have to agree with Mr. Bobo, this is the most incredible motorcycle I have ever owned. I have been riding since I was 11 years old and consider myself a somewhat accomplished rider. I have raced motocross myself and ridden street bikes with guys that raced them regularly. I have always ridden naked sport bikes until now. I know I am way off topic from fuel consumption but wow this is an incredible bike. I got home from work tonight told the wife I wanted to go for a ride, she did not want to go and told me to go a head. I rode 140 miles on one of the curviest routes around my location. (I should also mention I have a supermoto and feel like the Tail of the Dragon is a gift from GOD so you have an idea of my riding back ground and what I prefer now, oh and I'm 53yrs old) A couple of days ago I went into a 15 MPH turn kind of hard but nothing crazy (or so I thought) and had the bike slip a little. I did not see gravel or tar snakes in this turn but it only slipped a little then the bike it bit right away and tracked through the corner like it was on a rail. Tonight I did it again but this time I realized what happened. I went through another tight turn this time a 20MPH corner. I knew I was going a little harder I had banged down three gears and got on the throttle hard as soon as I saw the exit, I broke the rear wheel lose. The traction control or stability control kicked in and I got traction again and just tracked right though. It was incredible. I won't say what my entry speed was prior to breaking but it was near stupid and my exit speed was faster than I have ever done on this type of turn. This bike is crazy fast, crazy stable and is going to ruin me from any other bike. I just hope to remember to use the rear brake pedal (and clutch) on my supermoto the next time I'm feeling ornery and ride it.

    May I have your opinion on a better option
    Im in a market for an all rounder, specifically between R1200 GS Rallye or S1000XR. I live in the Philippines and Although I ride mostly on tarmac, the roads conditions can sometimes be gnarly even on highways. And the tropical heat bites.

    • @MotoBoboJones

    How do you compare s1000xr to r1200rs?

    • @MotoBoboJones
      @MotoBoboJones  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      XR a bit more upright, Faster inline 4 racing engine (vs boxer engine), higher center of gravity (turns in more easily, but not as smooth as RS for touring), more sporty suspension. Not really sure why you'd get an RS over an XR. I get why you'd get a GS over an XR though.

    • @sethch
      @sethch 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've ridden both and currently ride a 2013 1200 GS...I can summarize the difference in one sentence... The XR will make you giggle in your helmet every time you twist your wrist. The RS is a completely enjoyable gentleman's sport bike with every bell and whistle you can throw at a bike(even more than the XR) but is missing the giggle factor. Honestly, I think the best platform for that engine, if a boxer engine intrigues you, is the GS. The GS really exploits the flexibility of the boxer engine. I live at the bottom of the Angeles Crest, I can pass sports bikes on the way up the crest and once I get up there zip around fire trails without breaking a sweat. The GS is the best all-a-rounder you can buy PERIOD. I have a few more "adventures" in the GS, but once it's paid off at the end of the year I'll probably go with the XR...I miss the giggle factor :-)
