- Tutorial explaining how to replace the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing on an antique Ford tractor. These techniques apply to an 8N, 9N, 2N, NAA, Jubilee, 500 series, 600 series, 700 series, 800 series, 900 series and early 2000 and 4000 tractors with a four cylinder gas engine when equipped with a standard 4-speed or 5-speed transmission.

I am an old Canadian (Québec), born and raised on a farm in the 1940s. As kids we could identify all the tractors and cars of the area. That includes most of those you work on. These old but beautiful tractors are vintage stock but let me tell you that I have never seen such a modern and handsome young woman, mechanical expert, showing and explaining the way you do. That is why many people with no direct connection to farm works or implements, such as me, watch your mechanic courses. The University or Superior School you attended should seriously consider to award you a ''Doctorate Tractoris Causa"". Bravo, well done. In Québec we would say ''Chapeau Madame Rachel''.

we had an 8N that acording to Ford had to run on lamp oil, but refused to. the only way to run it was on a mixture of half gasoline

What makes ALL of Rachel's tutorials great is her thorough knowledge and the confidence that she exudes about the tractor and why you need to do whatever it is she is attempting to teach or instruct about. She has a great talent and actually she could represent any mechanical product and I hope that she does branch out and move forward with a great series and a great informational video. Each clip has improved over earlier videos...great job of editing too.

I am awed by the way you present yourself...a person would have to be totally ignorant not to be able to make the repair or replacement...I did not witness any hesitation at any point in your presentations...Unlike some other "shows", where the presenters are monkeying around throwing stuff, trying to be comical...pure antics on their part...you show a genuine demeanor...with your presentation, a person would not even have to know the difference between a wrench or a socket to be able to do the job...keep them coming...although my career was in education having served as a teacher, principal, superintendent of schools and an instructor with the University of Texas System, I have a mechanical background as well as having been a mechanic in the US Airforce with experience on B36, B52, B25, B26, and other aircraft which gives me sheer pleasure watching your presentations...final note before I wind up writing another dissertation: my dad owned a 9n, so that made your presentation even more pleasurable...
I am impressed. She talks like she knows what she is talking about, no hesitation, no stumbling over words, and uses the correct description without calling something a thingy. Not afraid to get her hands dirty, not worried about her pants, but still manages to keep her face and shirt prestine clean. Reminds me of my wife. Oh yes, she is working on a tractor, but that is hard to notice.
I replaced the clutch on a '64 ford 4000 HD with my father years ago then i did it on my own a few years back and everything you did was spot on. brought back good memories.
You go girlfriend!! My father had me take over the family automotive repair business 45 years ago and I've done over 100 clutch jobs in the the automotive field myself. But splitting a tractor is territory I have never been in. I just bought a Ford 800 and this is all new to me and kind of intimidating. So I watched your video and you made it so simple. I have to compliment you on not missing a trick and giving a complete explainating of the job you're doing. It's so refreshing to see another woman do "our" work and thank you for your video's. I so appreciate it and compliment you for getting in there and doing the job.

You have done a great job explaining this process. I have a Fordson Dexta that is waiting on me to put a new clutch in it. It's got live power. Keep up doing what you're doing, and tell your dad he's has a great up and coming tractor mechanic.

After watching this Monday, it motivated me to finish one of two video I started editing 6 moths ago and never completed till this morning. Ya'll have great videos on so many different makes and models, that's what inspired me to make videos on when I have to repair my tractor, a 1997 Tafe 35di, since I can never find much, if any videos on my particular tractor. Thank for the inspiration.

Fantastic video! Straight to the point with no fluff. I have a 541 Ford offset tractor with a stuck clutch and clutch pedal. I have the hood and instrument panel removed for access to the clutch area. I had hoped that penetrating fluid in this area would free it up. But it will not. I will have to split the tractor. Thank you for the video. It is most helpful.
Rachel, You are the best tractor repair person and instructor on You Tube. I have had a small Kubota for the last 17 years and was happy with it until I started watching your videos. You make fixing old Ford tractors look so easy that I went out and bought a 1964 Ford 4000 with a none-working 3-point hitch at a great price. Your videos gave me the confidence to tackle the repair myself. Thank you so much for such well- made videos.

wow your great Rachel , cant go wrong following just what youve shown , reminds me of many years ago we used to have a pair of Ransome combines with manual transmission , they used to sit for 10-11 months of the year sat in the shed , sure as houses the clutches would rust themselves together over the winter , we found a simple way to break them come next harvest , drive em out in the yard in 1st gear , hook a ruddy great chain on the back , put big john deere on that , brakes full on ,give it a good tug with clutch depressed , BANG its always worked !!! sod taking the engine out !!! love your videos XX
My Dad bought a Ford 9N brand new in '52, the year I was born ! I know he replaced the clutch on it when I was a Pup but always wondered how hard it was and how he did it, now I know ! I can build a variety of jet engines but never did much on tractors, other than work my tail off on the farm as a young Pup ! You did an excellent job ! Thank you so much !

Use your cell phone to take pictures of wiring and other re-assembly reminders. I love the pink safety glasses! FWIW, I'm very impressed at the knowledge and excellent presentation. Obviously these skills have been handed down. Great work. If and when my 8n needs a clutch, I'll be calling.
Great video, I work on trucks and cars for a living and very seldom smile whilst doing so...and I definitely don't have the patience for teaching let alone not cussing out loudly ....you definitely are a breath of fresh air and wonder How you stay clean ...keep those videos coming I will keep on watching
JUST bought a 1957 ford 600 with a loader for 4k in super good shape.. hard to believe it cost me twice as much as new back in 57.. Im sure glad to have your videos as a resource.. Thanks Rachel

Some antiques are Case LA model with the iron wheels (gasoline),IH,M-F 35,Dexter, Major,etc,etc. It's great to see a girl doing this kind of work. You rock!!! Good info. Raised on an 8N myself. We had little trouble with them but after 30 years...it was time to do some work on them. Wish I had a brand new one.

great vid, easy and simple to understand. My favorite kind of tutorials! Gives me the motivation to do it myself as the video makes it seem so easy! lol I think the clutch is going on my old MM m670
I liked the tip of moving the flywheel with a screwdriver to line up the splines of the clutch. We put a clutch in a John Deere 2340 and had a heck of a time getting that last inch together. Thanks.

Thank you SERIOUSLY. I'm a young farmer girl who bought an old farmall Super A that doesn't work, so i can repair it. My dad said that i bought a nice ornement. I said to him: this is gonna be my mecanical-practical course while i knew nothing about mecanic. With yours videos, that help me a lot! I wish my dad was false and that the farmall will work again. Thanks for the Great Video. I've been "putting off" splitting my 1953 Ford Golden Jubilee, NAA, for about 12 years, while I use my Kubota L3130. Think I'll tackle the ford now and get it running again. Turned the motor over yesterday with hands on the fan blade and alternator/water pump belt. Great job on your Video. I apologize for all the Cads, and their Sexist Remarks. Some Little Boys Just Never GROW UP.

When I was young my stepfather had a 8n. I loved to hook to a log and do long wheelies.
Hi! I had this type of problem on my B-275 after 4 months stored in the garage. I lifted one wheel, started the tractor, engaged the 1st gear and heated the clutch with the torch till the heat made the metal expand and allowed the clutch to be free. Thought you did a great job on your ford tractor, I saved a lot of time doing that way. I Saved enough time to offer myself doing a paint job on your Fordy…
