My grandpa was a mechanic at a Ford dealership during the 50’s, 60s and 70’s. Worked on these old fords every day. He could redo the hydraulics on one in no time. Would love to know how many thousands he did. It was my job as a kid to hand him wrenches. Back then at 7 or 8 yrs old I could have probably done one myself. Love the video. Brings back fond memories

I bought parts from you last yr and fixed the hydraulics on my 1959 Ford 671. Your clear video was much better than reading my Ford Service Manual 15 times. 3pth/lift was working great, until Sunday when I tried to lift a heavy log w a chain attached to my 8' grader blade. With so many of these tractors still serving in the field, this is an excellent video that helps us small guys using older equipment. I just wish there were more of them, plus more books like her one on the Farmall Cub.....a great book that has already saved me money.
Ordered a Top lid kit for my 63 Ford 4140 light industrial and got it today. Started taking the lid off and oh my seems like none of the bolts have ever been out before as it was a chore. Thank You for the video helps ease the mind of what we’re gonna get into
Just finished this project on my 62 Ford 2000. Had to rebuild the pump too, but all is working perfectly now. Shuddered a bit the first few lifts, but now running smoothly! Thanks Rachel!
Knocking it out of the park lady! Great job. Don't mind supporting a company that provides such great advice and not just out to sell parts. Keep up the great job and stay safe.
Great video, helped me get my failing 3-point lift back up and working smoothly. Used video to replace piston and piston O-rings, safety valve, hydraulic cylinder O-rings, and lid gasket. Used the Ford 600 manual and other resources to replace unloader valve O-ring (this was really failing on the lid), set loading-valve gaps (0.390 for draft control and 0.450 for implement control, see manual). Once all this was done the 3-point was raising and lowering as designed and holding, where before the work sometimes it wouldn't lift at all and when it did lift it wouldn't hold and would drift down requiring constant readjustment. Thanks Rachel!
This is a wonderful presentation. This helped me get the confidence to tackle the job. At age 81 it gets a little tougher. There are however a few things that should be mentioned. In my case all went well until time to replace the pin. It would not come out and I had to take it to a welder / friend to heat it to get the pin out. Before he could do his job I needed to remove most of the linkages out so nothing would get damaged by the heat. The new pin was slightly bigger and would not go in so I needed to use a drill just slightly larger to ensure a proper fit. I also ordered Loctite to make a permanent bond. Putting everything back was good since I had the video for every step of the way. Not everything goes perfect every time but having a great presentation is very helpful. They also had the proper pin and gaskets. Thank you, Hank
This is a great video! Thank you for putting these together and giving those of us “intermediate “ shade tree mechanics a great resource for these older tractors. Me and my 641 thank you. The lift has been jumpy since I got it 2 years ago.
Love your videos. It’s a great thing you’re doing helping people keep these old tractors alive. A video on replacing or repairing the two tubes that run through the transmission would be stellar. Apparently, it’s a very common problem. And offering new ones ready to install would be even better!
your videos are the best i have ever seen on repairs. you never skip or fast forward thru things and you leave me with the confidence to try these repairs on my own. i wish you had videos on massey ferguson 200 series because i have one that shakes sometimes when you raise the lift with a heavy implement such as a 6' bush hog. thanks very much
Just found this channel and got my first 63 Ford 4000 last night. These are awesome. I wish there was a whole series on rebuilding the 4000 or something I could buy. I want to be able to do my own troubleshooting and repairs.
Thank you so so much as the rest of the population has also stated! My grandfather's Ford 600 was loosing lift and then just stopped working all together... Your kit was great with all the right orings and pieces needed. I think a good addendum to this video, would be how to take the main shaft out as to take the arm that holds the pin out for drilling the pin out. What at terrible time I had getting that thing out... Heating, beating and finally took the whole shaft out to remove that arm and drill the pin out! I was afraid of bending the arm or the shaft. But, you are awesome in all you do for the community of DIY'ers. Thank you again!
My dad and I just repaired my 800's hydraulics using Rachel's parts and this video. Went smoothly and now my hydraulics work like new again! The toughest part was getting the pin out and putting the new hardened one (one of her grandpa's creations) back in. A little heat and in it went. Thanks again Rachel!
@@308dad8 hi, I will have to go back and see which part you're referring to. Yes we did this repair but I don't recall disconnecting any hydraulic lines. All of my repairs were under the top lid with the piston and lift mechanism.
I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos, both for the specific repair information, as well as techniques that can be applied across a multitude of tasks. You are not only knowledgeable, but also have a flair for educating others (something lacking in too many people trying to teach). Any family would be proud to have you as a member and any shop would be extremely lucky to have you turning a wrench. Hope all is well with you and yours as most of the nation "hunkers down in place." As a by-the-way, the IH Cub carb rebuild kit I bought from you was top notch. Thanks for your contributions to the old tractor community. Hopefully you can expand your offerings to further help us all and to help your business grow.
Rachel I have an NAA, but I watched this just because of some similar components. I would recommend using Kopper Coat anti seize. It makes a second disassembly much easier. Great video. Just a little late for me. after my hyd not working on my 800 for 10 years and being frustrated about not fixing it, I bought a Woods backhoe and installed it on the ford. The 800 has been in the family since 1972 so it means a lot to me. Great Video again.
This is just the video I've been waiting for!! So glad it's here to help with my "lazy" hydraulics on my 860 Now, let's do a top overhaul on the engine Rachel!
When you say "lazy", what do you mean? Because my 860's hydraulics have been great for years, but all-of-a-sudden doesn't want to pick up anything remotely heavy. I can't decide if what I have is what they're covering here.
@@kcaa3953My hydraulics only go up a short distance, barely lifting my rotary mower and they leak down in a matter of a few minutes. It makes it usless when using a 3 point post hole digger.
Thank you! I have a repair to do and yours is a straight forward intro to this. Cold weather here, so the point about using good fluids - the same - in all 3 makes sense. Cheers
I bought an 861 a couple months ago and had issues keeping my implements where I wanted them. drive a while and they drop to the ground. I watched this video and bought a couple pins and a gasket kit and pulled it apart (not a one man job but I did get it off and back on by myself). I love these Rachel videos. My pin was so bad that there was less than 1/16th of an inch left. A couple of things to mention. 1) make sure all the cylinders are all the way down (I shot fluid everywhere) 2) The pin will drive out , its just stuck pretty good. 3) Get help lifting on and off.
This was a very informative and helpful video. I believe it will help me diagnose our tractor and make any repairs necessary. You have earned my subscription. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome repair video 😎 You did mention going over what could be causing the tractor lift to be wobbly/hesitant when going up, but didn't mention what it likely was during the video.. unless I missed it. Any help would be much appreciated ☺️
Awesome videos. I’ve watched several of them now, You obviously know what you are doing, and I’ll be going to your website first for spares. You totally deserve it for taking the time to make such professional walk-throughs. Priceless overall service, :)
I am going to buy an 801 Power Master and I really hope the hydraulics are shot so I can hire you to rebuild it. You are a wonderful teacher. I am impressed with your knowledge. Thank you for presenting this video.
I really enjoy your videos. You have helped me have the confidence to try things I might otherwise not have tried. I will be trying this soon since my ford does just what you described in the video. I also watched your video on how to work on the carb and I did that and it really worked. Thanks again.
Rachael, About the hardened pivot pins: the original pin was not hardened because it was a sacrificial metal. Any time you have 2 metals wearing together, one is designed to be the softer metal and take the most wear. Usually this soft part is the one that is easiest to replace. If the pin you removed was hardened, the yoke it goes through would have worn the hole large and/or oval. I think given the choice you would rather replace the pin than the other parts. When you rebuilt this engine you saw that your bearings were worn. You didn’t replace those with hardened bearings. That would have been a Bad Idea. I suggest you don’t change the original designers’ intent. Offer original soft pins. Great instructional videos. Keep ‘em comin’!
Do you know the correct length and diameter of the pins? Could get a machinist to make you some from mild steel. Also had that thought about hardened steel pin might wear the cam surface it rides against maybe causing more extensive damage than a pin that took 60 years to wear out in the first place.
I’ve had the O ring on the lid blow out & leak internally. One is pressure, one is return. On my 900, you can remove the left side cover where the dipstick is & look for leaks more easily. Drive the left wheel up on a block of wood to tilt the tractor & keep the oil from running out.
I have a ford 8 br here in brazil. I disassembled it all, the hydraulic system and also the differential and hydraulic system are the same. It's a pity that you can't find parts for repairs here anymore
Safety glasses young lady! Says the guy who's run a grinder, swung at a chisel etc un-bespectacled himself uh... more than one occasion. My new 860 quit lifting a few lifts after I bought it ☹. Thinking it's the unloading valve stuck. Video makes it much clearer than the manual, thanks. Might be looking for some parts from you guys soon.
Thank you so much for this video, quite enlightening. My lift system won't lift an implement. It's a new Holland 7056. Last month it was repaired the mechanic said he rebored the cylinder. What do I do?
I have a ford 641. I had hydraulic oil leaking out the vent hole on a square plate below the transmission underneath during usage until the lift quits. Purchased a lift repair kit and replaced all the o-rings and relief valve on the lift unit, including the piston ring. (piston and cylinder were perfect). Still leaking out that hole. Leaves a trail of oil. Please give me your best guess. Thank you for your help and all your videos.
i watched your video to replace my clutch on ford 8n tractor. Finally got the nerves to split it apart. I purchased the parts and guide tool from yall. replaced it all, adjusted clutch but, seems like throw out bearing is not reaching clutch to disengage. pulled apart 3 more times to make sure nothing is in backwards or if any part is broke on parts pushing on clutch. sounds like its barely touching clutch but not enough. any clue what to check or try. Love the videos on how to make repairs on my 8n.
Could you please advise me? I have a 70s industrial ford tractor with loader. Its yellow and blue. I want to change the hydro fluid. Here's where I'm confused. There is no filler plug for the differential. There's a hydrolic hose & fitting where the filling plug would normally be. I can not find another tractor that's set up in this way. I don't know the exact model that it is. Thanks for any help you can provide...
At the 22:40 point of the video you are putting back the ball and spring over the valve. The spring on mine was broken. Where can I get a new one??? Thank you
I cannot even find the relief valve that's shown in this video to order online or anywhere. The only ones I can even find online are for Ford tractors that are sizes 2000 and up. I have an 801 Powermaster. Guess I'm screwed.
Rachel, This is a great video, but you make it look to easy. I have tried everything and cannot get the pivot pin out. The Hydraulic Control Lift I had to cut it off because I broke it off piece by piece and it would not budge. I am afraid to go any further. I keep costing myself more money as I go along and you make it look way to easy.
Does the Pivot Pen shown here your Grandpa had manufactured fit the Jubilee/NAA ? I know you said they have a pivot pen, but is it that exact one so I could ordered a hardened for my Jubilee/NAA?? Thank you.
Just a heads up, the pivot pin can be a NIGHTMARE to remove. For instance, my pivot pin couldn't be removed with a hammer and punch or even using a steering wheel remover type clamp. (Even with heat.) It's a hardened steel pin so you can't use a regular drill bit on it. I ended up using a carbide glass cutting drill bit to carefully drill out the pin. Even with the pin removed, it was not possible to get the new pin in. I tried using a benchtop vise to press it in but it was just way too tight. (I again tried heat and freezing the pin to no avail.) I ended up having to take a round tube file to very carefully and slowly file out the inside of where the pivot pin would go. I eventually was able to just barely press in the pin so I know it's not going to slide out one day. (If you file too much you're pretty much out of luck.) Again, this was an absolute nightmare and turned what I thought would be a one day repair into a 4 day ordeal. All this to say: Prepare yourselves for the worst case!
Hi love your videos. Have learned so much. I do have a question? How do you change the lower pivot pin on the hydraulic lift arm on the 1956 ford 600 series tractor?
Thanks for a great tutorial, Can u please do one for a ford 3000 hydraulic linkage adjustments inside the top lid ,My arms only lift half way and only start moving half way thru the adjuster, Thanks
Hi Rachel...can u help me out with the arrangement of ford 6610 lever linkage mechanism? I have messed up mine and cannot set it back together. More like i need a manual or a video to be able to set it all up. Please aid
Hi Rachel. Can you explain the operation of the lever just under the seat, on the right side of the Ford 800. It's about 3" long. Mine only moves about 45° and doesn't seem to do anything...
Not that it matters if she's engaged, why even comment on it? Congrats if you are Rachel, but thank you for helping me figure out how to get my 800 up and running like new!
In another video it was mentioned putting heat to help get the pivot pin out. Would the same work on a 600 series? Wasn't sure if it was different and might get damaged in some way.

If your fluid is filled to the proper level none should come out or not much
great video parts i ordered worked great i'm mechanically inclined but could not have guessed what all that boloney inside did ...thanks ...go well
Absolutely beautiful, and the tractor is nice too :) no really, where else can you get all of this knowledge part by part. Great video!
I hope my daughter grows up to be a lady like you. you are great
I have a ford 8 br here in brazil. I disassembled it all, the hydraulic system and also the differential and hydraulic system are the same. It's a pity that you can't find parts for repairs here anymore
Hi Rachel! Glad you have a new video up.
You are an impressive young lady. Very informative. Thank you Miss.....
It would be nice it you did a video about draft and position control linkage adjustment.
I have driven lots of tractors and it is fun to do it I have fixed theme as well it is a good hobby to have
Great video, Please do not use the abrasive wheel to clean the gasket off. The grit is very bad for everything. You do a very good job !
Hi tractor Friend. Is there a away to tell if the pressure safety valve is leaky? Excellent video.
Great job young lady, love your show....
Awesome job. Very thorough. thank you!
Another great video Rachel, thank you.
Hi Rachel.
Great video as always.
Thank you so much for this video, quite enlightening. My lift system won't lift an implement. It's a new Holland 7056. Last month it was repaired the mechanic said he rebored the cylinder. What do I do?
Need a video on the NAA or Jubilee top lid lift cylinder rebuild
Thank you for the repair lesson, perfect as usual!
Great video and repair information!
Hi , love your show could you help me with a question...on a Ford 800 there is a solid copper wire coming out of the ?? Where does it go please
Love your video series - so helpful. Pity you don't ship parts to New Zealand
Could you show the adjusting drifting control and the other two please on the 600 ?
Please make a vid on replacing the pto seal on an 800 ford
Can yall please do a video on a 851 ford? I'm having trouble understanding the electrical system and why my tractor won't start.
Where do I get some of the parts. I need a new pin and the part the lift hand bolts to as well as the cork ring.
Does the Pivot Pen shown here your Grandpa had manufactured fit the Jubilee/NAA ? I know you said they have a pivot pen, but is it that exact one so I could ordered a hardened for my Jubilee/NAA?? Thank you.
I really enjoyed watching this good video 🤠
Just a heads up, the pivot pin can be a NIGHTMARE to remove.
For instance, my pivot pin couldn't be removed with a hammer and punch or even using a steering wheel remover type clamp. (Even with heat.)
It's a hardened steel pin so you can't use a regular drill bit on it. I ended up using a carbide glass cutting drill bit to carefully drill out the pin.
Even with the pin removed, it was not possible to get the new pin in. I tried using a benchtop vise to press it in but it was just way too tight. (I again tried heat and freezing the pin to no avail.)
I ended up having to take a round tube file to very carefully and slowly file out the inside of where the pivot pin would go. I eventually was able to just barely press in the pin so I know it's not going to slide out one day. (If you file too much you're pretty much out of luck.)
Again, this was an absolute nightmare and turned what I thought would be a one day repair into a 4 day ordeal.
All this to say: Prepare yourselves for the worst case!
Hi love your videos. Have learned so much.
I do have a question?
How do you change the lower pivot pin on the hydraulic lift arm on the 1956 ford 600 series tractor?
Thanks for a great tutorial, Can u please do one for a ford 3000 hydraulic linkage adjustments inside the top lid ,My arms only lift half way and only start moving half way thru the adjuster, Thanks
hope you respond, my hydrolics work but my shilfting lowering lever only moves 1" i have not take anything apart but the keyway and disc, help
Can you connect the draft control arm to the plunger without taking the top lid off?
Engagement ring? 2:00 Some dude must be smiling right now.
Some lucky guy!!!
This video was great but it didn't show how to adjust or if there are adjustments to make as far as with the draft control or plunger adjustments.
