The Roborock S7 was just unveiled with a new technology called VibraRise. Vibra refers to the new vibrating feature that adds an agitation facet missing in older Roborock options. Rise refers to the lift feature that raises the pad when it detects carpet.
Based on tests, the vibrating feature does help speed up the stain cleaning process - as it removed all the red wine stains by the second pass. However, I'd avoid using any of these robots for cleaning stuff with sugar, like grape juice or tomato juice stains, because it will leave a sticky residue.
So the question you'll have to answer is, are you willing to spend a premium on these upgrades? Since these robots are almost equal when it comes to vacuuming debris.

Double the mop pad thickness. I cut a microfiber towel to shape and placed it between the pad and tank. Works 3 times better.
Roborock s5 Max or S7?

@@NadeemAhmed-nv2brI'm going to sew 2 cloths together. thanks.
My s50 is running on that setup and makes huge diferance!
I was thinking about replacing my old 1st gen xiaomi robot for a newer model and these models were exactly on my watchlist. i have decided to go with the S5 Max model. I think thats the best bang for the buck right now.
I choose the s7 for the feutures descrived in this video but there is one thing you forgot to mention; the s7 is the only one compatible with the dust containerbase and together with the improved moppikg function this made the choice easy for me.
I'll be sticking with the S5 Max. I have never used it to mop.
Tbh it's just great for consumers that the s5 max is still such a great option. Especially for the price that its going for
I think same
The new rubber brush from the s7 may fit in older models but the cover on the older models have 2 metal bars going across which will prevent it from making contact on the floor since there's no cutout for the 2 metal bars.
Good point. I'll have to check
@Lin jun wei no because the shape of the cover is not exactly the same so it won't fit into the housing.
I'm sure they can make a new cover to fit the new brush.
This is the best video review I've seen so far! Well done, sir!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
My s5 max does the criss cross pattern too, whenever it feels like it 😄
Heh, so does mine. But I have thought it would be more effective, so I'm glad they interduce it, to this too.
Mine does not do it yet, I have the latest drivers installed. Did you have to set it up in the app?
the S7 is going to be flagship soon enough. When they release that auto empty dock it will change the game. That dock can be bagged or bagless, and uses higher suction than all other types of docks with cyclone. Im calling it right now, it will raise the bar for auto empty vacuums.
I want to see a test with the S7 brush in the S5 max and see how the cleaning compares, and also measure the airflow with the S7 brush in it, and vice versa. That could be a game changer.
It has metal things which rapidly degrades the brush on the s5 max. You can remove the metal wires but then it won't clean as designed
Hey man! Thanks for this very thorough review! Great work! A clarifying question, the VibraRise system only rises the mop when it detects carpets? One nice feature for me would be the ability to have the mop always installed, and when you e.g. select vacuum only that it would simply keep the mop lifted during the cleaning session. Then you could mop when you saw it was needed, and vacuum when it was needed, all while keeping the mop installed, only refilling the tank when need be. That would create a more seamless experience in my opinion, than having to reinstall it every time you want to use it
You can do that with the S7.
You will soon have a dirty and smelly mop. I clean it after every use (of the whole flat).
This was so useful- as we wont use it to mop much i think S5 max is the way to go!
We bought the S7 about a week and a half ago and it has been one of the BEST investments we’ve made for our home, it will your wife super happy when she comes home to floors that are swept and mopped!
I use hydrogen peroxide and water 💧 only when mopping.
Our floors are soooo clean now, even the areas that are usually forgotten like under the bed.
Our next investment is MOST DEFINITELY the Auto Self-Empty Dock for it!
Hey
Missing talking about the self emptying bin. Cheers
I did in the review video. Nothing final yet, so have to wait and see how goos it is
@@CordlessVacuumGuide Hello, I noticed that these 4 nipples sit in front of the brush. What material are they made of?
They're scratching the floor.
Thanks for the help. I'll buy the S5 Max after seeing your test
One main question to check in the future, once the cross pattern will be extended to S5max:
- Add the S7 new mop to a S5 Max
- Test its result and compare it to a S7 mopping
I'm pretty sure the result will be similar. And in that case there will be only one argument left to justify the S7 --> The dock.
I hope you could make that test right now, even without the cross pattern ready so we could better understand what feature has a bigger impact on mopping: Vibration OR New Mop or Both ;)
Cause if the difference is not that major, there's a point about the technological complexity and its capacity to lower the durability of the product.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm completing other video reviews for now, so I'm not able to check if Roborock updated the S5 Max algorithm. But I'll do so for an upcoming video soon.
@@CordlessVacuumGuide That would be great, but there's a test I mentioned you could do right now by switching the mop of the S7 to the S5 Max ;)
I'm pretty curious of the result.
@@CordlessVacuumGuide just to let you know i updated my S5 Max firmware today 9/21/21 and the criss-cross algo is in there.
@@jeffc412 Same, so let's go for the test I mentioned ;)
@@jeffc412 thanks for the update
My biggest concern with the S7 is the technological complexity added to the design to both vibrate, pump water, and raise and lower the mop head frequently. There's just so many things that could go wrong and we don't know how durable this is going to be. For now, I prefer to have a great robot vacuum and a separate robot mop (should I decide I actually need one).
Agree. More moving parts mean more stuff can go wrong. I would choose the S5 Max over these for that very reason until they work out the bugs.
Nice video. You should test the suction power (also cleaning performance) with S7 brush put into S5 Max to check if the lower airflow is due the new brush design
Great call!
Yes, that's a really good idea!
@Lennon Tobias this is a scam don't fall for it
I have the s5 max and have been very happy about it. It has started to sound a bit strange though. I'm kind of wondering if it's built to last the famous two years. I'm glad they still support it. I wrote them at some point and got an answer very fast, so they seem very legit and serious.
The scrupping motion seems like a great idea, but it will probably make it brake sooner. The more moving parts, the great risk of it breaking down, is my experience, so I'll be waiting to see.
Lets see if batteries and other parts like the side brush motor becomes available. iRobot's parts availability is hard to beat. You just about buy any iRobot part from Amazon or eBay.
great video! thanks!
a question. do you know if i can use the S5 max brush on the S7? and the mops? thank u in advance
I think those will fit.
Hello, good video! You will get better quality on sound if you use a pop filter in your mike and treat the sound in OBS before uploading... =P
Thanks for the tips!
@Jan Lenz no one asked you
Very good review.
8:45 is the main brush seal of the the older models compatible with the brush of the S7?
If not, is the main brush seal of the S7 compatible with older models?
Great review... i wish they shall introduce Y shape mopping with option to either use it or keep standard moping , it is very efficient way as 1st forward pass wets the stains and 2nd reverse pass cleans most of it, in comparison to the vibrator as well as standard passes by s5 max 1st pass wets the stains but as there is no immediate 2nd pass so once the robot comes back again for 2nd pass the stains are again dried so apparantely very less performance unfortunately :( i have also asked Roborock to provide Y pattern mopping in upcoming feature as old buyers of S5 max shall not be buying S7 only because of mopping upgrade which can easily be attained by introduing y shape mopping by Roborock; afterall its hard earned money and even s5max is not cheap to buy....
VERY good points👌🏻
I own s5 Max and am quite happy although now that 3-4 months have passed I now see where it not as good. It is very bad at climbing higher than 2cm.
It has a hard time on even medium thick carpets (we own no long haired carpets).
It takes also very long time for it to get back on track if it looses its path(although I will upgrade router now and see if there is any difference).
The mopping is really only for wetting without the y shape pattern... if you do it often it is ok .
With all this knowledge I would only pick this if I don’t have carpets at all. We don’t have many but still, we did not buy a robot to do the vacuum ourselves...
Also, sometimes it isn’t that smart... when cleaning our hall that is rectangular... instead of going straight along side with the length of the hallway... it wants to take like 50 turns in cleaning while traveling the “width of the rectangle shaped” hallway .
So instead of around 5 turns it goes like 50 turns 🙄
However, I’d still buy it if it was the only robot to choose from. It has helped a lot despite these cons.
Today I’d buy something that can do it all... that don’t get stuck primarily
Thanks for sharing this detailed review. In our home, it goes the length of the hallway, not the long route. However, I did notice that issue with the S6 MaxV.
You mean like xiaomi mijia mop work p
We have mostly laminated flooring and some short- and medium-pile carpets. And a daughter with long hair :) I'd like to get a robot with good vacuum and mopping, so I'm thinking on buying an S7. But I don't know, if S7 can remove the long hair from medium-pile carpets?
Is it worth the extra costs of S7 compared to S5 max, if the mopping is also important for me? Thank you for answering.
I purchased the S7, within 3 days the plastic thingy that sits behind the brush came out of it's slot, can't get it back in, I've now had the S7 less than 3 weeks and it's telling me the sensors need cleaning. NOT only do I clean every part of the S7 after each use. This annoying message of the sensors need cleaning, cannot be gotten rid of. I have now cleaned them 5 times, I had my tenant clean them. Yet this message still persists. Not good when I paid over $1000 AUD for this thing. My $300 Eufy S11 picks up far more dog fur. The only reason I bought the S7 is because of the combined vacuuming and mopping. TBH it was a waste of money, I'm still waiting for a response from Roborock and have contacted the ACCC (Consumer Protection).
Do you mean the bar that vibrates the mopping pad?
My biggest issue with virtually all robot mops is they leave streak marks on dark tile floors, including the S7. Aside from that, it's an awesome machine.
Yeah, unfortunately a side effect of dragging a damp pad. The same happens with a mop.
If you had to choose between the roborock s6 v max and the dreame z10 pro which one would you prefer?

Hi, good video! Do you have a review of these compared with iRobot Braava m6 which some say is a better choice?
Still waiting for it to arrive. I will update the community tab once I have it
Hi, Thanks for your video it is a great help!! I have two question on the S5 Max: Does map on 3 floors and which is the max area it can cover?
I kinda hate the Xiaomi eco system regarding updates to previous models. Not only many updates are location blocked to china but there's no reason smaller models don't get multiple floor update.
I have LVP flooring and hardly any carpet, just a few rugs. Mostly need one to pick up dirt and debris from shoes and the dog, etc. and maybe mop mild dirt stains. Which one would be best for picking up dirt from LVP flooring?
S7 or S5 Max. Both are decent for mild stains.
Q7 MAX roborock and dreame l10 pro
which one should i BUY
I think it is worth mentioning the auto-emptying docking station is only compatible with the 7. As far as I know at least.
Good point.
As i see is not mega worth buying s7. But seems. Just a bit better than the others. Thanks and good video
I agree. I was sure I was going to upgrade my s5 max to this, but I don't think it's necessary. I'll hold to upgrade later... maybe Black Friday?
Wow pretty cool that the older Roborock will get the criss-cross patterns!
Will be interesting though to see if it will improve the cleaning quality on these older Roborock vacuums....
I think Roborock added it for mopping, not so much for vacuuming.
@@CordlessVacuumGuide Once my S5max made the criss-cross-pattern ... I don't know why but i never accoured again ^^ Maybe it was the ghost in the shell :D
@@CordlessVacuumGuide Will Roborock add a criss-cross pattern for vacuuming in older models?
@@vadimkrylov yes, but to current models only, not discontinued variants like the s4 or s5
I think the S7 can accept the auto emptying dock if needed.. Not sure if it also replaces water though, that'd be a game changer
Check my review on the S7 with the auto-empty dock here... th-cam.com/video/1NKoqUZ3SXw/w-d-xo.html
Water tank is retained since it's in a different location.
What one would you recommend for picking up pet hair and long hair that won't get tangled or scratch floors. With also having good mopping?
Between the three, the S7 is the best at cleaning hair. I'm guaranteeing tangle-free performance, but the bristle-less roller is easier to clean. The S7 is also the best at mopping with the vibrating pad.
Have you tried putting the s5 brush into the s7? Wonder if this would improve its deep cleaning performance and possibly cfm.
I tried, it fits, but you'll need to cut the two metal bars.
Well I have the s7 maxv Ultra and I am trying to find a way to increase its cfm. It has 5,000 pascals of suction but like your video states it's not practically used.
@@anthonyg8435 how do you increase the CFM? Can you share the process?
Have they removed the Y-pattern with the new update with crisscross pattern on S5max, I can not find any Y-pattern setting?
Roborock never had a y-pattern
Do you think the new brush on S7 leads to scratches on floors?
I was concerned about this and noticed some scratches on my hardwood floor after running on vacuum mode (have not tried mopping due to having the iLife 450). I don't know how to avoid the scratches.
There's always a risk, not just with the S7 but also other robot vacuums. The brush roll wheels, and side brush generate friction and with it possible scratches. For the S7, I didn't notice anything obvious. There could be micro scratches but I think thatt's it. One way to minimize is keeping the wheels clean, especially the caater wheel since its solid plastic and debris will accumulate.
I'm more worried that the S7 brush seems to be able to damage the floor, several have reported, so I bought S5max, a scratch mark in the floor, I do not want to risk, over a better mopping function.
The brush is made from flexible rubbee so it should not cause heavy scuffing. Unless it's a sensitive finish
DEEP CLEAN MODE:
Perhaps something you would like to add to your commentary which can help many people decide;
I have 75x75cm (30x30”) ceramic glazed tiles and when using the deep mop function, it keeps getting stuck (wheelspin) because the floor is just to slippery due to the wet floor ending up in lifting the pad and proceeding further on, over and over.
So, nice feature but not for an inherent slippery floor surface. I can imagine for e.g. PVC or vinyl it will perform the same (but no proof!)
Thanks for very good video, just one question does any of these vacs detect multiple floors?
All three can save up to 4 maps with a map detect feature.
How do I get the grid/hatch vacuum pattern? Whenever my s7 vacuums or mops it just does lines in one direction. I don't see an option for grid/hatch pattern in the roborock app.
I used the room tab then set the number of passes to 2 or 3
The S7 might have lower airflow, but this isn't the same as pressure. It can have lower airflow with higher pressure if the seal is better.
Wow! you did the best comparison. thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Whether duplicate the mop would work better? I thought about sewing one into the other.
Hey!
Would you go with S6 max or the S5 max for pet hair vacuuming on hard floor?
thank you for making this video!
I'd go with the S5 Max.
@@CordlessVacuumGuide thanks!
Very nice, thanks
Thanks for the video, what brand and type do you suggest for mopping function?
The Roborock S7 is the best performing option of the three. Its vibrating pad cuts down the mopping time. If the S7 is too expensive, I'd go with the S5 Max - it's quite decent for light duty mopping tasks.
It's been few months now, has the criss-cross pattern been implemented in older models (S5 Max)?
The firmware upgrade I did this morning on 9/21/2021 on my S5 Max said criss-cross is already implemented.
What about Q7 max (without the cleaning station) performance? Any feedback on this model?
Check this review: th-cam.com/video/tMNph1LJYkg/w-d-xo.html

THanks from France !
Hey great video!
Question, is there any difference with the wheels or ground clearance of the s5 max and s7? I have a door step that the s5 max struggles to get past and I wonder if the s7 will make it over.
There's not much difference. Roborock's tend to be less aggressive with navigation it won't clear as a high as let's say a Roomba, but it can climb around a 0.7 inch threshold without issue.
great video review/comparison!
thenks very good produksion

It should stick on the velcro. Make sure you slide the bottom pad piece on the water tank's slot.

Hi, i was so torn whether to upgrade my 5 month old S5 Max when S7 releaaed. I use the robot daily to vaccum and mop at the same time (Max mode). Does it effect the suction capability when both function is on? I noticed it doesn't vaccum as clean as most reviews i watched. The only complain i have is the mopping leave 2 lines hard water stain on my glossy times. And the bumper turn yellow with just 5 months use.
Did you just mentioned that i can uae the S7 Mop pad on the S5 max?
Mopping should't affect the vacuum performance. The two marks are issues I've heard from other consumers as well.
I didn't notice it on my end. It could be tne pad not having enough surface area.
I've reas a comment about using a solution, which I forget what't called. But that's a workaround.
Yes the S7 pad fits on the S5 Max
@@CordlessVacuumGuide thanks. I wish you could compare ecovacs suction and mopping capabilities especially T8
Hi could you please check, does s7 mop lifts without setting the water function? I know it will lift when carpet is detected. Essentially does it work like old models where the mop pad is consistently on the floor except detecting carpet
@@jasminetay1798 There is an option in the app called Rise where users can turn this feature on or off.

On hard floor, would the S7 or the Ecovacs T8 (Aivi) be a better contender?
I still like the Roborock S7, better navigation and app, cleaner passes.
@@CordlessVacuumGuide thank you very much!
Could you tell me if the s7 main brush cover fits on previous models? I want to buy the main brush (that fits on my 1st gen and on my s6), but I think it needs the proper main brush cover, so I'd buy them both. Thank you for the video!
It fits but the metal bars will rub against it. I've heard some consumers cutting off these bars, so that's an option.
@@CordlessVacuumGuide Actually I’m asking about the main brush COVER. If it fits, I would buy the main brush COVER and the main brush to put them both to work together. Thanks for the attention, that’s really nice! Love your videos

I tried but it doesn't fit
Is there any new news about criss cross pattern update for s5 max?
None, yet. Will update once available.
what is your go to robot vac?
great video!
One problem i have with s5 max is that in mopping mode after couple of minutes it doesnt distribute water evenly for whole cloth so it just leaves 2 stripes of water on a floor (because it has got 2 outlets for distributing water)
Did you notice improvement in s7 model?
Hi, I'm a S5 Max owner and it's a well known thing but it can occur only after some time, expecially if you use common water. It can be fixed anyway with some anti-limescale on the nozzles.
@@you_whats hi, what is this "anti-limescale" is it chemical that will damage water tank/mop system over time?
I fixed that by humidifying the mop before the process starts. I put it under water until it's completely wet. Also, put the settings at maximum water usage. Try that combination and let me know, works for me ;)

How does your S5 Max mop perform? Mine leaves water traces afterwards. So when it dries, the flow looks like it has dirty traces. Very annoying
I had S5 and now I have S5 Max but S5 Max is not as good as S5 on carpets. I always have to vaccum the carpet after S5 Max.

Yes
I buy s5 max last week and i dont know how to kris kross sets moping to set?
Roborock hasn't rolled out the update yet. Still have to wait.
Still happy with S5 max.
Excellent review! 2 questions:
-Is the new rubber-only brush from the S7 compatible with the S5 Max?
-What robot has the Y pattern you mentioned?
Yes it fits. However there are two metal bars on the older models that may hinder the new brush. You'll notice there the older brush has cut outs on both sides for these bars, I'll have to test and see how it goes.
For the second question: It's the Viomi V3, which is a similar product to the Xiaomi Mop P.
@@CordlessVacuumGuide so basically it doesn't fit to S5 Max.
Can you confirm this? I have asked others that sequence feature is available. In your video, you mentioned it is missing.
Yes. Not sure if Roborock added it in an update
thank u i shared ur vid to a friend
will the cross suction be available for S50 also?
Unfortunately, no since the S50 is a discontinued model.
Do the S7 have a faster chip? From my S5 to S5 Max I got faster cleaning times due to more powerful chip that could make better routes
I keep my s5 max, cannot go with each update.
at 3:20, S7 has a cross pattern cleaning whereas S6 max has same pattern cleaning in 3 passes. Why Roborock doesn’t push this upgrade on the app for the S6 ? I know there is tricks to do cross pattern with S6 (2 rectangular cleaning area rotated by 90°) but it could be implemented easily.
I just wished roborock is consistent with adding their features. They could’ve just improved the A.I.camera from the s6 and brought to s7. But no, they removed it again. The camera is a good feature especially if you own a pet and avoid their poop
Good point. I do believe that the 3D laser sensor works better than a camera, unless you value the CCTV functionality.
this was also one of the points for me if i would go for the s5 max will it be able to avoid enough. if it doesn't have the camera? i am missing this in the review. sometimes a shoe or a sock will it avoid it? also with a dog and poop tho i think it won't 😅 as i seen this in one of the other review. thanks for all the other information great reviews. on all of the other parts.
I could not differentiate, maybe you can put on the model at the corner and the name of the test. Make it more organize.
Thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind for the next review.
You haven't mentioned anything about self emptying bin. They are supposed to introduced that in mid 2021 but do You see physical port on Your current S7 that might be used for that? Do You have info about self emptying bin at all? Is there a risk that current S7 models wont work with self emptying bin once it gets released?
I mentioned it in the review. For.the second question, I can see a slot on the side but I'm not sure if it's for the auto empty station. I'm still waiting for it to come out before making statements.
Short answer: no
4:25
Great review. I have tried many vacuum (of course not as many as you!) I have a question. When this robot is mopping and encounters a rug, you mentioned it will raise the mopping pad. Does this mean the pad is raised only so that the robot can climb onto the rug or does it raise the pad and will vacuum the run instead of trying to mop it? Meaning, will it mop the flat areas and vacuum the carpeted areas with user intervention?
Yes, when it goes over the rug, pad lifts and vacuum motor engages to clean the rug.
@@CordlessVacuumGuide this is only significant difference that leaves the S7 max from S5 max and what i desperately need sometimes rather than struggling to mark carpet areas on the map and I can not even set dimensionally fit in size all the time. This drives my nerves sometimes with that machine.
I’m indecisive either S7 or Roidme Eve Plus. Any advice on this?
I'd go with Roborock, better base station design with the ramp system. Not a big fan of vertical ports with potential alignment issues at play.
I never used any robots before but can you mic another cleaning liquid with the water? Or water only
Roborock recommends using water only. Others have used mixed cleaning fluid based on comments I've read. The only risk is voiding the warranty.
I have the S6 MaxV and was wondering is S7 brush was compatible with the S6 MaxV (you answered that, thanks) so next time I will buy these as replacement. Actually I don’t really use it for mopping so I think the S6 with A.I and the camera is the better choice for me at least. I hooe the S7 MaxV combines the A.I, camera and new mooping system, but most of all 2 spinning brushes on both sides!
Other reviewers say they "fit in" but they are smaller diameter and are not made for the metal bars that are present on the older models. So probably won't reach the floor and will wear and tear from the bars while spinning.
Do you know if "Deep" will be added to the S5M/S6MV eventually?
I'll have to ask.
You referenced an error code on the s7, I had an s6 max which ended up with a fatal error code (18) because the mopping introduced wet dirt for the actual vacuum. It lasted about a month before the internal fan was just completely jammed (yes I cleaned it regularly). I'm keen to see whether you saw similar behaviour in the s7 in lots of error codes, or maybe just running it in mop only would avoid this. What do you think?
If I remember correctly, I got the error 8 indicating wheels are stuck. Only issue I encountered is the robot stalling due to the sticky surface. These robots aren't built for heavy duty mopping or wet mopping, there's a big risk of liquid going into the motor.
So where can I buy the S7? I know you provided the Amazon link, but it shows as not available.
OOS almost everywhere. Should be available early next month.
Roborock having supply issues, you'll just have to wait.
Hi. Great review. I am looking for a robot that can avoid the "accidents" my cats would leave on the floor. Can the S6 Max V avoid those, it doesn't really seem like it in the review, or should I go for the S7 ? Thanks
Go for ecovacs ozmo T8
I would recommend neither for avoiding pet feces. Your best bet would be Ecovacs T8 or the Dreamtech L10 pro. I've reviewed the latter recently, I have a test on fake feces, see what you think.
@@jamessoon Thanks, I will look into this one
@@CordlessVacuumGuide Thank you. Il will check those and will watch your review
@@CordlessVacuumGuide One more question please. Which one would perform better with pet hair without tangling in the wheels ? Thanks
Excellent comparison of the 3 models! Did you find the raising of the mopping feature on the S7 high enough to lift off medium-pile carpet? This will be my determining factor on upgrading. Thank you!
It lifts 5 millimeters, I believe. It wasn't an issue with the mid-pile carpet I have.
@@CordlessVacuumGuide thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate it. It sounds like it will likely work for me as well. Thanks again.
Excellent reviews, thanks 😊
Thanks so much, I really appreciate your feedback. In fact, I want to ask you, what do you think I could do to improve on my video? I would really appreciate your input.
Hi. I'm interested in getting a robot vacuum, but I'm not sure which one to get. I am new to all of this, and not good with technology. Is there a way to have many questions answered? Or a # to call? Thank you
Just send those questions to my email in the about page :)
