    There two types of tapai in Malaysia.. Tapai Ubi Kayu (Fermented Cassava/Tapioca) and Tapai Pulut ( Fermented Glutinous Rice).. In your cendol was Tapai Ubi Kayu... mostly and famous selling cendol around malaysia is cendol pulut (non fermented glutionous rice) rather than cendol tapai ubi kayu.

    The drinks:
    1) Longan Drink is probably longan fruit pre-soaked in sugar and with added cane or normal sugar to the drink
    2) Bird Nest Drink at such price probably does not contain any bird saliva per se (these are expensive) but substituted with some jelly bits called agar-agar instead. Not sure how they make the drink yellowish, probably the type of sugar used.
    3) Air Mata Kucing is a drink with fruit similar to longan. In fact, they are of the same plant family if i’m not wrong and they taste similar. As a drink though, Air Mata Kucing is prepared with Luo Han Guo (Monk Fruit) and this sweetener gives the drink its dark colour. Some places sell this drink as Luo Han Guo drink as well, although it could also mean without Mata Kucing (which then the drink taste could be more plain sugary and less fruity taste)

    "air" (water) in Malay is not pronounced the same way as "air" in English. The right way to pronounce it would be ah-irr or ahyir with a more silent "h", so something like "ayir" instead.

    • @zacharylim5028
      @zacharylim5028 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fun fact, the lady who was manning the bird's nest store was saying in Hokkien to her colleague, "He knows how to speak (the Malay language)!"

    • @zacharylim5028
      @zacharylim5028 ปีที่แล้ว

      Second fun fact. The lady was speaking to the male colleague (most likely her husband or the owner of the stand) in Hokkien, but immediately switched to Cantonese to casually chat with (what I presume is) one of their regulars. After that, she switched to Mandarin to ask a new customer, "What do you want?". That is representative of the major Chinese dialects spoken in Malaysia.
