I guess, I agree with you. When it comes to their authentic foods such as nasi dagang, nasi kerabu of Kelantan, sata or any grilled seafood, chicken or lamb. They are champions. Their desserts are also delicious. Their curries are original Malay curries not like the mamak style
I guess they don't skim on coconuts and the spices are moderate.

Nasi dagang terengganu, the nasi is all white..while nasi dagang kelantan, the nasi is mixed with red rice. Personally I prefer nasi dagang terengganu..🥰 Next time, you should try with 'gulai udang' or 'prawn curry' ...it's marvellous ..the complete set should come with 'coconut+fish dry sambal' + acar (mixed of cucumber, chili, sometimes cabbage, carrot, onion in vinegar)...
While you're still in Terengganu, pla grab yourself 'satar' 'otak-otak' 'keropok lekor' dan 'keropok keping'..keropok=chip ..

You guys should try Malaysian fruits… like Durian Belanda (Soursop), Starfruit, Ciku (highly recommended), Jambu (Rose Apple, also highly recommended), Buah Nona (Custard Apple), Mangosteen (Queen of Fruits), Jackfruit, Langsat and Rambutan.
You can always ask the fruit stall owner how to eat them. For e.g. Buah Nona could be eaten with spoon after you have broken the fruit open, you just eat the flesh, but they are seedy. Jambu (Rose Apple) you break it into half, remove the bottom parts and the centre part as well as the centre part doesnt taste that pleasant (no worry, it’s not poisonous LOL)

OMG. I really miss Nasi Dagang. What is missing is Acar (pickled veg and fruit) which refreshing to the dish (not the Nyonya Acar type though), which makes the Nasi Dagang a pretty balanced dish with carbs, protein and veg.
I miss the Keropok too. Keropok Lekor is the generic name, which can be thin and crispy, or thicker and chewy, both can be dipped in the chilli sauce. What you guys had is Keropok Sago, kinda specialized version with added ingredient (which is Sago). Another specialized Keropok is Keropok Bawang (Onion Keropok). These specialized Keropok are not easy to find, but if you find them, go ahead and try. Likewise, Goreng Pisang (Fried Banana Fritters) have versions like, Goreng Pisang Madu (with honey added) Goreng Pisang Sesame (with sesame seed added), etc and they are delicious. There are many types of fried fritters, jackfruit, taro, etc and these are snacks enjoyed by Malaysian alot.
