I own one of the last 2023 Sports. I’ve just completed a cross country trip, carrying over 1000lbs. Once I hit Wyoming I drove at 90mph - 110 mph for hours on end, never once needing ETC! Transversing real hills, at altitude. This truck has far from a lazy, wheezy engine, or a confused transmission! I am extremely competitive and few trucks or cars could pull me going up hills at speed.I am 74,and a seasoned endurance driver for Porsche. I love this truck!!!
If you're experiencing gear hunting, and throtte lag, get a 3rd party tune. Overland Tailor Tune (OTT) will solve throttle response and gear hunting. You can get two levels of tune...one for when you're not using ECT and one for ECT...there are multiple power options for each level. Also, you you can't leave ECT on all the time like the video says...after you shut the truck down, it defaults to off and you have to turn it back on the next time you drive.
Bought a 22 Tacoma Sr access cab 4x4 use the ECT POWER every now and again wanted the 4 banger for its reputation for longevity. Simple setup . Hit that button and I'm gone ptetty amazing.
@@Aglassact77 But the 4 bangers known for being more robust and bullet proof. (As long as you don’t try to tow with it). The 4 cylinder (2tr-fe ) is a cast iron block. It’s way more robust generally speaking.
Always have the [ECT] button on while driving, it seems to be a smoother ride with it on vs off. Got my 21 TRD Sport 4x4 Taco 3.5L V6 in April this yr!~ Used to drive a 05 Silverado LS V8 5.3L which died on April Fools day.
As already mentioned I’ve taken note while in and out of ETC and haven’t seen any difference in gas mileage. (2017 Tacoma SR5) I use it when driving hilly backroads and if towing. Nice option as opposed to being in the doggy regular mode Tacos are known for.
What's the change on a flat freeway though. I could see less change in an environment where you would have to be mashing the gas and brakes continuously, but on an open freeway where you might sit in that higher rpm range for an hour or more would be different.
I notice no difference in performance or shifting in ECT mode., even when towing. I have a 2023 V-6 Tacoma. I read that is suppose to keep the transmission temperature down when towing as it keeps the torque converter spinning faster?
I'm not sure the temperature impacts, but if you're not noticing a difference in shifting it might not be working properly. It's a pretty noticable difference.
This does wake up the V6 and puts it in the more power RPM range that this engine likes to run for torque people complain about this too much the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma with a 4-cylinder Turbo runs in the higher RPM range also but the V6 is comparable to it hands down😊
I'm no engineer, but I suspect that having ECT POWER turned on does not significantly increase engine wear because low-rpm "lugging" is hard on an engine (and transmission). Also, the higher rpms will increase the oil distribution via higher oil pressures. This is just my opinion... What do you think?
Great points. I agree with you. Whether or not there is more wear with ECT on or off, I think it can be argued that the effect would be so small that it is negligible.
That’s is the truth I have a 2017 TRD sport and yes you need to hit that button every time you turn your truck off and turn it back on and you have to turn that back on you have to hit that button again and you will see it lit up on the right side where your speed is that’s where the light turns on I still want to get my truck tune it’s not enough and anywhere in tear unless you’re dogging out your motor I don’t do that because you have to turn it on I mean you have to hit the button every time you get back into your truck if you want to use that mode
ECT is for towing. Your truck will not shift into overdrive if the ECT is on and this will result in lower mpg. If you want to "fix" the tacoma the proper way, get the KDMAX or OTT tune.
I’m def going to pay for some one to Tune my truck there are people that I watch on TH-cam that I trust from watching them and I see how they take care of their vehicles their Toyota Tacoma‘s and the girl Chloe from California she has two Tacoma‘s and I know she has other Toyota trucks as well I guess her and her boyfriend and her husband but she did a video where she had gotten the tune taken off and she use that thing that you buy install it to see well she drove a truck without it for a certain amount of time with nothing to determine off and then she put that whatever that gadget called to help the throttle response but she did it the right way by doing that to get her truck used to driving normal again so she couldn’t really tell if that gadget worked what’s it called a throttle commander or something I have to look it up I have a bad memory because of my lime disease but I do remember things I don’t remember what they’re called all the time 👍👍👍👍

I use it every day. It makes the driving experience so much better. The truck doesn’t constantly shift like it does without it

And also this enables it to go into six gear. Thanks for the video.

There are trucks with the 3.5 v6 with 400-500k miles on them. Toyota’s v6’s are usually better than their 4 bangers 😂
@@Aglassact77 yeah I was gonna say, for longevity why did they not go with the also rock solid 2GR

Thanks for clarification. I’m going to try it next time I’m on the up and down roads to Pinetop from Phoenix, AZ. 🤞🏽
I bought an adapter on eBay for 30 bucks that leaves the ect button (I call the fun button) on by default. Love it!
Wow, that's very interesting. Could you share a link?
Love these videos
Thanks! Much more to come soon with better quality. Just bought new cameras and microphones.

Can you turn it on and off while driving or you have be completely stopped?
You can turn it on and off while driving.
I use it because I have 33” tires and a lift, helps with pick up
I use the ETC when I’m traveling over the mountain passes when I’m traveling to Seattle or Montana
lol I had my truck for 7 years and been calling etc “extra power” 😂
can you turn it on and off while already driving or do you need to be stopped?
You can turn it on and off at any speed

what's difference in tow haul mode and ECT power button on my 2025 Toyota Tacoma.THX.
The transmission will behave a bit differently and blind spot monitoring will be adjusted to account for the trailer.
If this is true about wear and tare , then what does the peddle commander do as far as wear on the engine ???
The Pedal Commander won't damage the engine. Similar to ECT power.
Can you turn ect while truck is moved?
Yes
Hi can you tell me Where tu get those step bars tnx
They're called "Predator Steps". tacomaexplorer.com/toyota-tacoma-predator-steps/
It also keeps it from shifting into 5th and 6 th gear.
Per my experience (2020 TRD Pro) that is incorrect.
Is there a reason this feature is not available on the 4 cylinder gen2 Tacoma with automatic transmission
It's not available at all on the 2nd gen for some reason. They stopped it after the 1st gen and resumed with the 3rd gen.
What is the mpg hit?
Lol
Is it safe to keep on long term?
Yep!

If people would stop being lazy and drive a manual they would not need this tow feature……
Lol, they are difficult to find, especially in one you really like and want.
A lifetime of heavy truck and tractor clutches has wreaked havoc on the old hip joint, so my new Tacoma is my first automatic.

You think we don’t know what ECT does , come on buddy
It was the most popular article on our website (thousands of views per month), so many people don't understand what it does.
I didn't, thank you! 😃👍
that plastic skirt needs to be removed off the front disgusting.
Not as bad the 2024, haha. However they offer significant improvements to gas mileage.
