    You did a great job explaining ECT power. I see it as being helpful to turn-on ECT when passing heavy traffic, going up long steep hills, and towing anything over 1,500 pounds.

    I think you did a great job with the speed trials. It is more difficult to do the mpg trials, especially for a test distance of one mile, but it makes sense that if the tranny doesn’t shift into the two overdrive gears as quickly, that you are going to use more gas while the ETC is engaged. Great video. I like the app you used too.

    It should roll out the factory tuned with the ect on but it will be terrible in gas .. so they figured to make it look a bit decent on gas let’s tune it in the most conservative mpg it can get.. Bruh you need to fill up 😎

    When I took the test drive with my 19’ Tacoma & got back to the Dealership I noticed they had the ECT button on, I said oh ok, let’s take it out again with it off. A little trick to hide the hesitation on acceleration as far as I’m concerned…my 4th Tacoma.

  • @beexiong2995
    @beexiong2995 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    ECT kinda feels like it bypasses the Atkinson cycle and the transmission acts like a traditional 5 speed AT with 6th regulated as the OD gear. Normally 5th and 6th are treated as OD gears without ECT on

      I’m wondering if the ect power button is the Tacoma version of “overdrive off”? Because I don’t see an OD Off button in my 2021 Tacoma (my first)., and I was taught to turn off overdrive if you’re pulling a trailer.

    The ECT's performance is true, but vaguely stated by Toyota in the manual, and your controlled study confirms it. Toyota does not want to encourage people to use and affect overall fuel economy. What if you used the ECT button in conjunction with a drive-by-wire throttle controller? I'd guess both features have the same purpose and hypothesize that, used together, both the ECT and throttle controller would compliment each other for even greater acceleration. If there is a dark side to it perhaps an engineer would know. Nice work.

I always think it will be fast enough to pass without the ect. The truck should drive the way it does in ect all the time. I wonder how much better the turbo 4 in the new taco is.

      By completely turning off traction control and activating your ect will allow for a faster response while accelerating, basically allows your rpm to Rev up quicker, but I also had the kd maxx pro tune down on mine which again made for a even quicker response time while accelerating
