    Love the care and details in the production. The panning shots, and the music, the fades and the fact that he doesn't let one take of him painting be more than 10 seconds when doing simple things like base coats to avoid boring you to death... Seriously good skills, not just the model painting but the video production value.
    I can't wait to see more KDM stuff!!! Keep it up man, you are doing a great job!!

    A trick to straighten the arrows (or swords or whatever) dip the minis in near boiling water and the straighten, then dip in cold water……ive used this on many plastic mini from Zombicide to Warmachine…..works great and you don’t have to worry about weakening or breaking anything

    Excellent video as always. Again, you make it look so easy. Still working my way through the base zombies; I'm so slow.
    It would have been nice to see some alternate paint schemes for the Dead Eye Walkers, some possibilities for those who want them to look more fearsome than festive. I appreciate how you keep getting better in your presentation. It's nice to see the backs of the figures once they've been painted as well as the front. Keep it up.

    Great vid. I'm always blow away at how well the quickshade works....AFTER the matte spray. Before the matte, I would be panicing! Thanks for sharing, they truned out great. I'm also curious if you had any suggestion for the "Murder of Crows" figures? They seem, well, a bit problematic to make look interesting. Thanks.

      +1 on how you would paint the "Murder of Crowz" Really enjoy watching your videos. I painted the Zombies and Hero's from Last Night on Earth 4 years ago. That was my first attempt at painting mini's. They came out ok. After watching your tutorials I have begun painting up my own set of Black Plague mini's using your methods. I believe they are leaps and bounds better using your guidance. Thanks so much for doing these.

    Have you noticed the quick shade making the mini's brittle? A fellow gamer of mine painted the ratabomination and used the quick shade, the mini was drop on to the table from approximately 5" and the right arm shattered. I love the way the quick shade looks but have become hesitate about using it.

    Great tutorial! What do you use to clean your brushes? How often do you use new brushes? Also, will you be doing Doom the board game figures?

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Dan! I usually just use water to clean my brushes, and sometimes this stuff after a session: www.rosemaryandco.com/christmas-gifts/acrylic-gifts/zest-it-acrylicic?filter_name=cleaner I don't really know how often I change brushes; some brushes last ages but others I ruin pretty quickly if I'm careless! I'm currently not sure if I'll be painting Doom or not (and I still haven't received my copy yet) :)

    You seem to love to use the Stormvermin Fur, but can you recommend a Vallejo option to replace it? Some charts online would suggest German Grey, which imo is not even close, and I don't really understand how that is even suggested.
    I like the utility Stormvermin Fur offers, but really dislike the Citadel pots to a level that I don't want to use them.

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi C r s! To get a good match to Stormvermin Fur with Vallejo paints try: Cold Grey (VGC 72.050) mixed with just a hint of Yellow Olive (VGC 72.064) :)

    first of all I'd like to say thank you. your videos are great and they've really helped my painting come along. I have one small question. I've been using the 'testors spray lacquer' with great results but have now run out. I can't get hold of anymore. unfortunately they won't ship it from America due to shipping laws. Do you know where I might be able to get any from or if not what's the best alternative. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated as I currently have VERY shiny zombies. Once again, keep up the great work and I look forward to future videos.
    kindest regards,
    Alexander.

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Alexander! Thanks for the kind words! Hmm the Dullcote sure can be tricky to get hold of at times. I don't know where you live but here in the UK it is still sporadically available (from places like Firestorm Games: www.firestormgames.co.uk/testors-dullcote?gclid=Cj0KEQiAnb3DBRCX2ZnSnMyO9dIBEiQAOcXYH-KeImjio7LL3XAM-kie1Sy0th6i6nEpQ1BysIEOeUgaAhuL8P8HAQ). If you're outside the UK then I'm afraid I can't advise as all the retailers here only ship the stuff within the UK :/

    • @morganfellows8182
      @morganfellows8182 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Did you use the Army Painter shade dip? If so, what you could do is get some Matte Medium (Vallejo do one) and simply brush it on. This turns the gloss finish into a matte one in much the same way as the Testors stuff. You'll still have the protective coat the Army Painter shade gives, so you don't really need the dullcoat to protect the miniatures. I've done this myself when I ran out of the spray, or to touch up areas I missed and that still appeared glossy. It works just as well. Hope this helps.

    I have a question regarding the thinning part. At about 4:40 you mentioned that you use a mix of 3:1 and thin this with water and glaze medium of around 50%. How do you do this ? Are you using a brushful of 3 times green and 1 time of the other paint and a brushful of water or do you also use a dropper for the water part ? Started yesterday exactly with this guide but my red turned out to thin. Are you using a old brush for this part and is the size of the brush important ? How does it work with more than 1 paint ? Thanks in advance.

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cruel Time!
      Yes I use a brush to measure out both the paint and the water, but you could of course use a dropper if you like! I generally use an older size 2 brush when I'm measuring and mixing like this, but the size doesn't really matter as it's the ratios that count. Bare in mind that each individual pot of paint will very in consistency depending on the paint and how old it is etc. so these ratios are a little rough. Also, I did deliberately want the red and the green to be fairly thin to take advantage of the zenithal highlgihts :)

    Hi Sorastro! Great vids, lots of tips that will be helpful to a complete newbie. I backed Dark Souls on Kickstarter and it will be my first miniature game ever. Since I never painted minis before I'm a bit scared of f*cking up my Dark Souls minis. Did you ever consider doing the Dark Souls figures on your channel, so newcomers to the genre could learn from it? :)

    As allways, a great tutorial, I need to keep your Blood recepie in mind for my World Eaters Project ;)
    I noticed that you mostly use light colours when using this priming technique, I guess it is because they are more translucent then dark colours?
    Also how would you go about painting a model that is mostly metallic, lets say gold, with this priming technique?
    Tanks in advance :)

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Giant Dad! I think quite bright mid-tones work well over zenithal highlights like this as we have to compensate for the loss of vibrancy that using a thinner layer has (also the underlying black and white further desaturates things). I've not really tried metallics over zenithal highglihts before but I don't see why it wouldn't work (actually I did paint the gold bands on the Blood Rage frost giant and they came out OK) :)

    • @Rohnon
      @Rohnon 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I quite like dimm colours with little vibrancy, makes small vibrant colours really stand out, so I might try it out with darker tones, aswell as the metallics, I mean worst case is that I have to paint over a thin layer of paint :)

    Hello, Sorastro!
    I'm curious how often you clean your pallet? I find that when I use a pallet that already has paint in it, the water saturates the dried paint underneath it and starts to peel and bleed into my paint, or I get little chunks of peeled paint in the mix. More frustrating than anything, but I see several painters who look like they have ages of paint still on their pallets. :P
    Thank you!

      Hi! As you can probably tell, I don't clean my palette very often. In fact, I'm now of the mind that it would be simpler to just buy a new one every couple of months (they're very cheap!). I've not had any problems with old paint bleeding into my current paints however. :)

    I have really enjoyed your videos and was glad to read that you were doing these archers next. They turned out great as always.
    I wanted to ask, does the army shader thicken up on you as you work with a larger batch like this? Based on your earlier videos I tried army shader for the first time last weekend on 2 figures and the shader seemed really thick. Should I be using a bit of thinner?
    Looking forward to more Black Plague videos, but I know you are working on several games and need to give them all some attention. I would like to see the Abamarat painted next, if you take request. :-)

      Thanks Matthew! Yes the Quickshade is really quite thick and gloopy (especially mine as it's a couple of years old now!) but it's really supposed to be like that and I don't think it can be easily thinned anyway.

    • @matthewgrove9704
      @matthewgrove9704 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, good to know that the shader is supposed to be thick. I was thinking of using the mineral spirits to thin it, but if the shade is designed to be thick, then it will just be a learning curve on my part.
      I also wanted to let you know that I enjoy the music you create for your videos as well. It sets the mood nicely.

    @Sorastro. Is there a particular reason why you only use the Quickshade when painting Zombicide (as far as I remember, anyway). Do you not like the quickshade for other projects?

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! Yes I generally use it just for zombies because I feel the dirty brown look it produces suits them well. That's not to say you couldn't also use it for something like the Blood Rage warriors for example but I've not got to them yet! :)

      Hi SnowBlind125! I sometimes use a wet pallet if I'm just painting for myself but I prefer a dry palette for the tutorials because it (hopefully!) helps keep my ratios and steps nice and clear and easy to follow :)

    • @michaelhalbert9264
      @michaelhalbert9264 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You talk about mixing the red color for the uniforms, and you say that to thin it you mix it with thinner 50%. 50% of what?

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK, at 3:40 when I say "I'm thinning this with around 50% water and a little glaze medium" - This means that I'm mixing roughly equal quantities of the red paint and water, then adding 2-3 drops of the glaze medium. :)

    just using a $140 airbrush to prime/base coat is such a waste. its an amazing tool you can do so much more with. pretty disappointed to see that here.

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi badfox! I'm not sure whether you're disappointed that I'm not showing how to paint colour with an airbrush or whether it's because I'm using quite a high end airbrush for a basic task, but I'll cover both bases to be thorough: The reason I don't currently produce tutorials showing how to apply colours with an airbrush is simply to keep the tutorials as accessible and inclusive as possible. (Most of my viewers don't own an airbrush but will still be able to replicate the zenithal highlights using spray cans.) The reason I bought such a capable airbrush is so that I can learn to do all those things you are alluding to with it; I'm not sure why my also using it to do some basic zenithal highlights should be a source of disappointment to anyone. It might be that I eventually explore what it's capable of in some future videos however, but the vast majority of my videos will continue to be brush based so that anyone can follow along :)

    • @Rokemikal
      @Rokemikal 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      very well, thanks for a reasonable response. good luck with learning how to use it more technically. looking forward to seeing some vids with you using it.
      also you'd be surprised on how many people actually would look to see basic airbrush videos as there a plenty of new hobby painters looking to pick up an use an air brush. i feel like your audience would be spot on for that.
      the disappointment comes from seeing a nice airbrush like that under used for such basic painting with which u can literally use a rattle can or a $30 airbrush for.

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool; well hopefully one day I'll be good enough with the thing to be able to show what it's really capable of :)
