Words don't do this video justice. Between the technique, soothing voice, reference photos, paint index, and crafting your own music to go with it all. Not to mention every video you produce keeps getting better. I guess all I can say is thank you!
I know that this may seem redundant, but I am deeply thankful for your video tutorials. Thanks to you I started painting minifigures. Your videos make it seem less intimidating to the beginner. They are excellent in every way.
I have no words... Awesome. The wet blending technique is not as hard to manage and the results are so great. Thanks for your work and to give us the chance to improve our painting skills!
+Olivier Clary Thanks a lot Olivier! I'm glad you found it helpful. I should also be thanking you and the other patrons for giving me the chance to improve my painting skills too :)
A lovely video! I recently backed gloomhaven which finally arrived - but needed some much needed instruction regarding painting (as I have never painted minis in my life). Your videos have been a revelation. Amazing quality, clear instruction, great editing and production value not to mention brilliant music. If my figures come out at one tenth of the quality and skill with regards to your instructions I'll be a happy man. If you ever decide to do the Gloomhaven minis I'll be watching in awe I'm sure :)
+Jonathan Tee Thanks so much Jonathan! I really appreciate the kind feedback. I’m actually awaiting my own copy of Gloomhaven so there’s a chance I might get to covering some of the minis.. :)
Alrighty then - all is complete: game and brush came in today. I DO CARE bout how the figures turn out, that's why I 'm watching your videos, LOL. I started painting the figures from the original game with a fairly decent brush - WOW! It really changed my painting!! LOL. I've used your painting metal techniques for the swords and weapons. What an eye catcher. I thoroughly enjoyed your "how to paint" video!! Thank You.
Nice tutorial as always. Good to see someone able to explain clear what he's doing. Have seen a lot of "pros" not even able to explain basilar concepts
These are my favorite videos to copy painting my minis, but if you’re not a pro, you’ll never get them on the table to play. The detail is incredible, but man using 3 paints from different manufacturers for each section is brutal time wise. Lol. Either way, awesome and when I want to just show off my minis, I use these every time. Well done.
A perfect paint as always. Great job, great result. When i see the tip of that winsor and newton i really envy. I never manage to keep the tip of the brush in such a great shape.Maybe a video about paints, brushes and how to keep all that in shape would be nice. Something different like the video about the audio and video recording that you have.
Hey Sorastro, you should consider making a video about your eye painting technique. I know there are a lot of others on TH-cam, but I'd appreciate your take on it. Keep up the awesome content!
Thank you Grant! I could do, although for the scale of minis I usually paint there's not much to show other than what you see in the videos. For larger-scale figures things get more interesting of course.. :)
Thanks Elleff! Those buildings and gates etc are from the "Garden of Morr" scenery set by GW, which I believe has since been repackaged and named the "Sigmarite Mausoleum" :)
@@Sorastro That's awesome thanks. I usually paint legion but am going start on black plague and green horde I think. Possibly even journeys in middle earth...🤔
I think one of my favorite parts about your videos besides how helpful and informative you are. Is the music I know you make most of not all of your music. Have you ever thought about putting out an album of “mood” music I would love to have like, happy town music or something to use in D&D.
Thanks a lot Graham! Yes; I'm actually releasing my first album of music next week; it will be just the Imperial Assault music, but I'm planning a second album of fantasy-themed stuff in a couple of months :)
Fantastic. Thanks again. PS did your brush survive the Typhus Corrosion? It usually spells the end of a brushed life for me. Still worth it as the effect is amazing.
Hi Bob! Yes you could dry brush over the black in the prep and spray stage.. I'd suggest doing so in a couple of stages, starting with a mid-tone grey then white. The results might not look quite as smooth as when using airbrush however, but good enough for the table top :)
+Thanasis Geronimos Hi Thanasis! I haven't yet given a final name to all of the tracks yet but when I wrote that one I had in mind a wizard's tower - a place of learning and enchantment :)
Watching these videos really makes me want to buy that box and paint up these models following your videos as closely as possible. When I use spray cans for zenithal highlighting, the white has a tendency to look rather speckled. Do you have any advice for this? I wonder if it is due to the can being really low.
Hi James! I think spray cans do generally produce a more speckled look. You could try getting just a little closer to the model perhaps (but take care not to over spray) :)
Wonderful painting and explanations as always. I'm always looking forward to your videos. I have to mention though that this time I was really bothered by the casing marks on the sleeves of the miniature... Not your fault !
+Benjamin Laurent Thanks Benjamin! I agree about the sleeves, and that's partly my fault for not being thorough enough in the prep stage, but I managed to cover must of the mold line in blood in the end anyway 😀
Been really enjoying your video tutorials. I’ve been wanting to paint my minis for Black Plague and Dark Souls for a while now and I really enjoy how informative these are. Quick question. Do you thin any of your paints that you apply (besides the ones that you explicitly state)? Also, any tips for straightening a warped mini? One of mine has a warped blade and base. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks Edward! Yes I usually thin all of my paints with a little water - to varying degrees depending on what I'm doing with it. For straightening warped minis I usually dunk them in very hot water for a while then re-shape the warped part and quickly submerge in cold water to cause the plastic to re-set :)
It is amazing, you are better and better, always I think this is your best video, and than appears the new one, and you can always suprise me how magical you can work and paint, it is art, it is alive! Keep on! Thank you for this videos! Now, my wife is looking with me to :) I have a question, we are playing Descent every week, after how many games or time I have to re apply the matt varnish?
Thank you so much Válasz! I'm honestly not sure if it's necessary to re-apply the matte varnish. But for ultimate durability you could brush on some gloss varnish then once it's dry, apply the dullcote 😀
Great video! Your presentation is top notch! I do wonder, between layers are you using any method to speed up drying times, or do you allow the paint to dry naturally for minutes, hours, or days?
Thanks Joseph! I find that the paint usually dries quite quickly naturally in a matter of minutes (or even seconds if I'm using very thin layers). I occasionally use a hair dryer to speed up the drying time for things like shades perhaps :)
I hate you! I think of myself as not bad miniature painter but damn!! Your technique is flawless! I'm green with envy. Beautifully done, man, perfect! Thanks for the video.
What's your view on base & layer paints, do you differentiate them? When l started l got some starter tips from my local GW store, like working with the order primer>base>shade>layer/dry etc, but you seem to not only use them in whatever order but you even mix them together for new paints. Is there some special thought behind it or is it just easier to get a certain nuance?
Hi Lau! It's worth being aware of the different levels of concentration/pigmentation in the different paints (Base vs Layers etc) but I certainly wouldn't be a slave to "The System"; I'll pretty much mix whatever I want to achieve the tone or effect I'm after :)
Awesome! You can hear me talk a bit about how I like to sit and hold the miniatures to achieve maximum control in this video: th-cam.com/video/qW0fpSkgwLA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=olIlDWAqmONBqBXW 🙂
Love your videos Zoroastro! Thanks again! Two questions: First, i saw that you use lahmian medium sometimes, why and how do you use it? What is the purpose? I saw that you even mix lahmian with a citadel wash, what does mixing lahmian makes with paints and washes? Second: i saw that you put a Clear varnish coat to the figures so they are protected. I dont have testors available in my country, what i have is the Reaper sealing brush on varnish, that i dont know if works the same. Any advice with varnishes? I did an amazing blend on a Kingdom Death pinup some time ago, and then put a Vallejo matte varnish and it nearly killed all the blends! I want to protect my minis but not to lose th equality of the blends i make :( Thanks, wish to know your thoughts about this
Thank you very much! Regarding Lahmian Medium - I use it for thinning down the Citadel Shades because it I use water it kind of messes with the properties and flow of the Shades. Some people also use it for thinning their paints with - which is fine - but I generally use water (otherwise I'd get through a lot of medium!). Regarding varnishes - I'm afraid I've not really used anything else apart from the Testors Dullcote for years because it's simply my favourite so I'm afraid I can't offer any further advice on that; sorry! :)
Hi Vargavinter! I usually just thin with water. Sometimes I might add some retarder or glaze medium but I will always show that in the video if I do :)
I love this! I just bought Black Plague, and these guides are so amazing. They will definitely help me get a great look on my miniatures. I see you have a patreon as well, I'll head on over! I have a question though, are you interested in Warhammer? I'd love to see you approaching more Age of Sigmar or 40K miniatures!
Thanks a lot Robert! I don't have any immediate plans to cover any Warhammer - largely because my schedule is full enough for the moment! I would love to paint my Blood Bowl teams at some point however... :)

These models always look some much bigger in your videos than they do in real life. The precision of your brushwork is magical.
Thanks a lot Greg! There isn't much room for error when you're filming zoomed in at 4K resolution! :)
It's so true he makes it look easy and then you're holding the same model and thinking ................Dang.
I know that this may seem redundant, but I am deeply thankful for your video tutorials. Thanks to you I started painting minifigures. Your videos make it seem less intimidating to the beginner. They are excellent in every way.
Thanks so much Michael! Believe me I still value every comment and kind word; it's what helps keep me going :)

The reflection on that potion bottle is such a satisfying little detail.

Fantastic, as always. Thank you for doing what you do, you make mini painting a lot more accessible and less intimidating for amateurs.
Thanks a lot Bill! I really appreciate that :)

Horn reflection on the portion bottle!!! Would've never thought of that! Your videos are magnificent as always!
Thanks a lot Niluk! Much appreciated :)

WOOOOOT! Been waiting on your Baldric man! FANTASTIC!

Yeah, that would be great!
Base series completed just in time so you can get started on Zombicide The Green Horde. As always a great video + talent!

Thank you Long Nguyen! I'd love to paint some of my AC minis - I'm just not sure when! :)
Where do you get the amazing scenery in the background of your zombicide vids? The gate and buildings look awesome

Great job on this one, so much inspiration.

I was wondering. How do you keep your brush so sharp everytime? Mine tend to go a bit fuzzy...
Fantastic. Thanks again. PS did your brush survive the Typhus Corrosion? It usually spells the end of a brushed life for me. Still worth it as the effect is amazing.
Ha thanks mate! Yeh - I switched to a "dead" brush to apply the Typhus Corrosion :)
Awesome. Great job. Thumb up....
Thanks a lot John! I'm glad you like it :)
I dont have airbrush either the White Spray. Can I achieve by drybrush in your first step (Prep 'n' Spray) the highlight with a white paint ?
Hi Bob! Yes you could dry brush over the black in the prep and spray stage.. I'd suggest doing so in a couple of stages, starting with a mid-tone grey then white. The results might not look quite as smooth as when using airbrush however, but good enough for the table top :)

who is the final hero for zombicide???? wizard or fighter????
